Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction, Magnetic Flux & Induced EMF - Physics & Electromagnetism

  • This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. It explains what it takes to induce a current in a second coil. A changing magnetic flux produces an induced emf in another coil. This video on electromagnetism contains an example problem with multiple parts that asks you to calculate the induced emf, the induced current, and the power dissipated by the resistor.

I’ve been out of school for decades and needed a refresher, I didn’t realize just how long being out of school would affect my comprehension rate until I started watching videos to learn again. Only in the case of the moving magnet was the emf caused by the change in flux. In the other two cases the emf was caused by the motion of the wire through the magnetic field. Faraday's Law obfuscates the principle involved.

    If the resistor has a current flowing through it, it also has a voltage drop, but the wire is shorted and must be the same voltage everywhere in the wire, assuming a perfect wire. This contradicts the current flow. Can anyone explain why this way of thinking is wrong? Can we not use circuit analysis with emfs?
    My professor took an LED and connected both of the legs together in a loop held it in an alternating magnetic field and it lit up the LED. Im having issues understanding what the voltages on either side of the LED would be.

    • @user-tc2gd3vg4t
      @user-tc2gd3vg4t 3 роки тому +2

      the minus sign is due to Lenz's Law and it is because of the conservation of energy. "the direction of the induced emf/current is such that it opposes the change which created it." basically the magnetic field that was produced as a result of the induced emf is in the opposite direction to the original changing magnetic flux/field.
