  • Bit of a long one today, refitting shoes on a couple of retired mounted games ponies, there are three but I had already done the old boy CoCo before I started filming. In this one there is a guest appearance from my wife Rachel.
    Filmed with GoPro Hero5 black Camcorder amzn.to/2OrEuTs
    PLEASE READ THE FAQ's BEFORE POSTING!!
    1: Hot shoeing ensures a good fit.
    2: No, it doesn't hurt the horse if it's shod correctly by a qualified registered person.
    3: The horse is calm because it has been trained from birth to know there is nothing to fear.
    4: The majority of horses these days are worked either under saddle or in harness and on hard man made surfaces, shoes protect the feet from wearing down too much and can add grip via studs in the shoes for competition animals.
    5: Feral horses have particularly hard feet and manage them naturally by foraging, if they get sick they recover or die, it’s nature.
    6: The average horse needs re-shoeing every 6-8 weeks
    7: The bit I am nailing to has no nerves and is made of Keratin, the same as your finger nails and hair.
    8: The burning smells just like burning hair. #GaryHuston #Blacksmithing #Farrier #ASMR #Horseshoeing #Fabrication #Ironwork #Hoofcare #welder #repairs #horse #farriery #engineering

    This was always my favorite part in any horse game I played. I got super excited when the ferrier came to my aunts horse farm while I was there for a visit. It’s so satisfying. 😂 I love how the dog is like, I wanna help.

    Why does the pony get front shoes but not rear?

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  5 років тому +6

      Because they are old retired games ponies who do very little now. Their front feet carry 60% of the horses weight so suffer more without shoes.

    How often do you reuse shoes? Your older videos always seem to have you using new shoes and now your newer videos have you reusing shoes. Does it have to do with the client wanting new shoes for the horses? Does it matter if they are new or old?

      The older retired horses tend to use them more than once because they don’t wear them out. More active horses need new because they are worn out
