- The Trostle Farm has become a Gettysburg Landmark due to its brick facade and visible cannon ball hole from the battle. Today we discuss what happened there on July 2, 1863. #GettysburgTour
Garry Adelman is the Chief Historian at the American Battlefield Trust and Doug Douds, Col USMC Ret. is a Licensed Battlefield Guide.
This piece is part of our coverage of the 159th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. You can find all of the videos here: • 159th Anniversary of G...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
After the first day of these great tours it's obvious some of us are not going to get any sleep until Monday.
Col. Douds. Always raises my level of excitement. Well done sir.
Me too!I just woke up & I feel like this video was better than coffee ;)
Wow, been following all day, this was fantastic!!! Doug’s a great speaker who brings a lot of energy and excitement to the battlefield. A real thrill to watch!
Yea he’s a natural. Never been on one of his tours, but he’s fantastic.
Hearing the story of the 9th Massachusetts Battery on July 2nd never gets old.
Great job, Colonel Douds! One of my favorite things is when the Historical battlefield pics are lined up with current day locations. Please keep these terrific Historians/videos coming! So glad it didn't rain on you all! : )
What a fantastic piece! Col Doug tells a fascinating story of such heroism! Thanks also for highlighting the plight of those that had no say in being there, the horses, such carnage and death caused to these unsung heroes. Seeing the photo of them laying there dead at the very spot that you were standing brings a tear to my eyes! This is a place on the battlefield that I must visit!
Now that's a presentation, brilliant job ,well done and thanks.
Absolutely brilliant 👏
Doug's videos are some of the best. Very informative

I love this time of year with all your Gettysburg Batte coverage!
Great job! I’ve been watching your videos for years and they’re awesome. You’re truly doing a service
Read 'The Second Day', by Harry W. Pfanz. Excellent!
Directly over the right wheel of the gun at 08:54 stands a battlefield 'Witness Tree'.
Doug hit that one out of the park! You're the man, Garry! ABT is first rate!
Gary Adelman and Doug Douds are riveting historians.
One of my favorite stories from the battle.
Fantastic! Awesome. Thank you so much.
Just brilliant, thank you!
Great story teller!
Fantastic commentary!
Wow! What a whirlwind of information! Fantastic video guys! Keep up the great work!
Doug is a fantastic story teller, just missing the camp fire ...
This is too great. Thanks.
You guys are TOPS when it comes to telling The Story.
Col Dowds is always excellent!
I’m always amazed by the detail you folks present - Thank you! My son will be at the 160 Re-enactment.
Excellent Presentation!!!
Like a secondary aspect to today’s presentation (aside from the emphasis on the soldiers and their unit designations). We are seeing parts of the battlefield that aren’t commonly seen in the majority of all Gettysburg vids. For those of us that don’t frequent this battlefield, we are seeing views of the ground that seem to be dismissed as unimportant, or not interesting. Not so. Would much rather see the Trostle Farm, or the actual Stoney Hill, than a collection of monuments.
Dang. They got somebody that talks faster than Gary. I didn't think that was possible. Gary has done a better job of slowing down lately.
You guys are awesome! Thank you!
Thank you gentlemen. The location of the famous photograph was great.
As a drafted, disabled, and Republic of Vietnam combat veteran '68, I never liked Army officers. This officer guy is good. My first visit to Gettysburg was in 1959. Eaglegards...
i love that attack on
july 2nd . I wish hood wasn’t wounded at the start i’d love to see how it would’ve played out if he had command
Great one
These are always great! What is your favorite Battlefield to do videos on? Gettysburg has to be one of them as it's such a large influential battle?
Excellent
Gary, you should go with the Burnside, Bigelow whisker look, no chin hair it's cool, I have done it many times...

W.O.W.W. great job Doug
Yeah, they definately taking upper's before recording... God I miss Hartwig and Bearss.
What a story
The 20th Indiana & 86th New York must be chopped liver. They had a slug fest with Robertson’s Arkansas and Anderson’s Georgians for over an hour on Houck’s Ridge. Ammunition ran low and flank open, they finally had to retire. Ward’s boys get no respect on July 2nd.
Usmc retired or army?
USMC, but he does teach at the U.S. Army War College
All those poor horses killed because of stupid humanity.
Wow, been following all day, this was fantastic!!! Doug’s a great speaker who brings a lot of energy and excitement to the battlefield. A real thrill to watch!
