kendrick is being guided by the African people who died during the diaspora.
The woman in the cave (the one with egg-shaped boulders) represents every black woman. We are queens. However the children she bears and protects are being shown an image. A damaged imgage of themselves. This image is their future. It is bleak. It is singular. It is a false representation of themselves and their potential. Once kendrick appears they focus on him. he is humbled (no pun intended) by their gaze but understands he gives these children another perspective. He is living proof that there is more than one path.
Kendrick (in the coldest suit since Obama) in the town, represents the richness in culture the black and African Community has.
I just love the how women are presented in this video. We are beautiful and not sexualized. We have power, we give power, we guide, give strength. Kendrick pays so much respect to the beauty of black women.
thank you!!! at least someone knows what this video is about!!!!
These comments should have come from the reviewers!
Yes! That opening scene with the hands makes me want to cry every time I see it. It’s so powerful.
Nerdygirlpants 。 I kinda pictured the woman covering the children as the Ethiopian Queen.
Nice explanation.I love it.I just love the way kendrick represented the women in the video.Nice video .
This song makes me proud to be black and African.
Are you in Africa?
Yes ma’am
@@illlllllllilillliilllliiii7155 doesn’t matter. She’s African.
Your culture is beautiful I wish I could be a part of it
I’m white but black on the inside I am also proud
At the start when Kendrick is in the boat it's like he is being directed back to his motherland(Africa) by the hands waving, then the 4 women at the end are Goddesses that's why they are bigger than him and sza, my understanding
they are bigger then him because my man is 5’6 lol
cam wade 😂😂😂😂
Wow! Highly intelligent conclusions there. Goddesses? Did not get that at all *eyeroll
cam wade 🤣🤣
Yoruba goddesses and it was also showing the elevated position African women had in society before colonialism
Hey guys, in case you wondering these visuals are inspiring by the Black Panther movie and Kendrick produced the soundtrack. That's why there is so many references to the African continent.
Hey so thats correct but this song also provided a way deeper meaning for the representation of the strength our African woman Carry in this world. Most just don’t realize what they could be capable of and are drowned out by expectations of society or influence around them. Every song has a message it’s just up to the right person to decode
I think the video shows that black people are consciously asleep. And it's time to wake up.... remember who you are and how great your ancestors where thousands of years ago. Great message Kendrick Lamar
Uau I'm crying, this is so beautiful e and so empowering to the black community and Africa, I'm from Brazil and we're one with Africa, large black community here and diversity. Cheers to te react.
I think the song in part was about the diaspora. Even through all the things we've been through and how far out we've been spread (due to slavery) we are trying to find a way to move closer and know each other. From the lowest to the highest.
tanneranner SPOT ON
But Africans were the ones who slaved the diaspora and sold them to the European. They do that until today, I mean slavery ports everywhere, Libya , Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria
politiks Brasil
This is a false narrative that was invented by conquerors who wrote history to support the divide & conquer agenda. African leaders like Queen Iya Oba allowed Africans to be taken under lies that were told to her by Europeans. When a ship was overtaken & the Africans returned & reported what was REALLY happening she suited up as army General & drove the British out of Benin.
Read Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Dr. Yosef Ben-Yochanen, Ivan Van Sertima, Robin Walker, etc., who did the work & went back to bring the truth about our history to us.
Wowwww I think you are right!

Fist up Fam!
You can't compare Kanye and Kendrick. Kanye declined after Graduation, Kendrick keeps breaking barriers.
I'd say after 808s and Heartbreak. That was a great project. Even if you cut him off there, Ye is on the Mt.Rushmore of hip hop. He changed the entire sound and direction of the genre/industry. That man deserves his credit. Kendrick is one his way there.
@@transcendentmuzic1398 Who was inspired by T-Pain's use of auto-tune.. That's all that album was auto-tune and harmony. Literally nothing spectacular about 808's and Heartbreak
id say after Dark Fantasy, that album was rich
Lies dude has the number one album in the country now
@@bvicc20 literally the whole harmonic rap today is influenced by 808s and heartbreaks.
Hi everyone.
The evolution of Kendrick Lamar is to make the possibilities of what a rapper ought to be doing more than blings, booze, babes and bars! He does much more.
The opening of the video says it all. Remember how our ancestors (from Africa) were shipped into the Western world as slaves. Some had to jump over-board preferring to die with their dignity and self-esteem intact than live the rest of their lives in shame and chains. That scene captures the scenario. Only differently. It’s the journey of a man back to base. Back to Africa. More like the journey of Kilmonger (in the Black Panther movie) back to Wakanda. He rides the same sea as his fathers back home. The sea of waving black hands is a reminder of what has occurred in that sea of injustice.
The title of the song itself is sooo deep. All the Stars are closer. If you focus on one star, it seem far. But looking at the stars in a community, they become closer and you can create any picture you wish. (People draw animals with stars in the sky- they’re closer together). Kendrick prefers to draw Africa with his own stars.
Kendrick is evolving. To evolve you need to acquire new fan base. Asians, Europeans etc... there seem to be a concerted effort to rebrand and retell the African story. Judging from the Documentary-album of Jay Z (4:44).
It’s gonna take us another 10-15 years to fully appreciate what Jay Z has done in that album for the Black community.
I like Kendrick. Humble. No bling-bling. Always breaking boundaries. So Kendrick ain’t going down, he’s just not as appealing to the Good Kid Mad City fans out there. But whilst he’s lost some old ones he’s gained very strong new base, more diverse. So I guess his next album will be about blending it all up.
The song should have been given a 9!
Uncle on the left looking like mountain man Mbaku....a snack!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lmaoooooo
yea, only this one is lighter
Fuck I had this in mind too!!!
LMFAO EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING

Lol and I swear that wi-fi is from Wits university
yes uni wifi gets me through life
what are you talking about Kendrick is the biggest Hip Hop artist in the world, Dude just won the Grammy's against Jay-z... Good Kidd and damn are albums in very distinct periods of HIs life....
On d matter of Kendrick lamar i think he's evolving and it's very good for his craft. You can't be static else you'll be boring af..
As a music student and a person who follows this channel, I honestly think David and Bryan are great music analyst.
Tonye said Kendrick is declining and Sade said DAMN is over rated. Those comments got me in shock.
As an African American, I am feeling what you brothers and sisters are doing "across the pond" - keep it up! I subscribed!!! Great vids!!!
I just love hearing black talk from around the world. Loving all your expressions and the vernacular you guys use! Shoutout to my people from the states! ✊🏾
Also drop your opinions on what we debated about regarding kendrick
This video was a 10. I feel like this video had alot of visual depictions. The beginning when Kendrick was on the boat i feel as if the hands represented the slaved ancestors that jumped off the slave boats and they are guiding him back to Africa. Then when kendrick walked in between the children i feel as if he was saying im here to teach the truth to the youth about Africa and where we come from. Sza in the stars and the verse could mean alot but to me i feel as if she was saying this will be the day our ancestors come back aka the return of Jesus Christ but tbh I dont want to go against any Christians but I believe that isnt the truth back in slave days the slave owners basically put christianity out there. I feel that this information was stolen from Egypt and tweaked so we as black people are blinded about where we come from. Next Sza be surrounded by the pink dancers shes a new artist usually artist have to make sacrifices etc to become bigger artists i feel the dancers where dancing around her to protect-her from the elite this also relates to her verse in the song “if it sound wrong keep away from me...” also she is giving us a warning live our life we are running out of time. When kendrick is walking threw the room of gold and the flags are lined up I believe thats him walking towards the “gates of heaven “ and being judged by the 4 goddesses standing there as the camera angle changes you can see the light becoming brighter meaning he is worthy of being accepted also another reason he did the whole because he believes thats his mission to teach and open our eyes. Uhm I forgot one scene the scene with the black Panthers that scene could be him walking with the ancestors i want to say how the background looked could be after the rapture comes but im not quite sure, but thats most of what i got 👍🏾
I’m Christian and no offense taken! I love your explanation of how you see it:) if people are offended about your opinion on personal religion then they have a problem
South African dance was represented and it was represented in the Townships, Kendricks clothing was inspired by the Congolese dandies, Ghana was represented in the Kinte SZA was lying on, Nubia was represented by the enlarged black women SZA was standing in front of and the moors were represented by the black people wearing the red headdresses.
Dooky Lesotho too. The dancers in the township were wearing mokorotlo(?), the hats
which south african dance?
Fam, the caps were igbo hats, the women weren't nubians, but probably deity, the hats could have been either basotho or fulani in the townships
Pantsula
the kids who wore tbe red hats and the attire represented nigerians specifically igbo

Yeah I think theyre the Congo dandies
The Congolese people with bright tuxedos you were referring to that were represented in the music video are called Sapeurs. They identify with Sapologie.
On the Kendrick matter yes, Good Mad City was the best album but then again his shaping the way people listen and see life situations. Its a gradual process of change and his painting a poetic side of black oppression. Once people are on that same mindet, i feel he'll release something revolutionary.
Also his moving with the trend which is uplifting african heritage and not being ashamed of being African.
Love from the Puerto Ricans (we're part of the African Diaspora as well)
I am glad that I have not seen Kendrick before this video because this video put me in tears.
As I child, there was no one that hardly ever looked like me, and nothing ever so beautiful, elegant,
majestic, and respectful made of any Africans like this on TV or on the internet this way. I grew up a little girl surrounded by the blood of blacks that flood and of lynch mobs appearing out of nowhere surrounding me, maybe no more than 4 or 5, and my mother to lynch us, threaten us and hurl the most hateful hurtful things to us. So give this brother a 10 because this is an evolution of a people from chains to slavery to THAT!!!!!
Kendrick is all way up fam and he’s getting more attention than before according to perspective coz I’ve heard him booming in places I never expected
To be fair that's not what the dude in the middle was arguing against. He was saying that Kendrick has gone down artistically not celebrity/status wise. Nobody could possibly argue that's he gone down in fame.
"I feel like youre all agreeing with me but in a different way" if that aint me when someone disagrees with me 😂😂😂
Honestly i'll never get the hype about Migos, not my kinda music and kinda trach IMO
715490 926 Then do they produce their own beats? I doubt it. Their producers should be getting more hype than them lol
Facts 💯
Ruwen Moodley same
All people aren't the same, all hip hop music isn't the same genre. U got rap, trap, konscious, drill, pop, Gutta, gangsta, etc.
Numbers don't lie. There's clearly millions of people who love Migos, fuck what u don't like
This song is legendary now.
Haiti received the message 🇭🇹 how about you the rest of diaspora? Mama Africa is calling did you hear her?!👂🤞🏿
Solid Discussion and Debate. But to my Fellow Naija Brotha Tony from one Nigerian-American in LA to another Nigerian-British in London you're wrong about Kendrick not getting Better from Album to Album. Glad I found this Channel and enjoyed the different perspectives.
Kendrick's new albums have been breaking records and killing the hip hop sales so how has he declined? Please help me understand Tonye.
He is speaking about whether Kendrick has gone up or down ARTISTICALLY. That's the key word.
The middle guy with the red sweater looks like he is looking at himself
Zoe Haywood yeah he looks like his not bothered about the video😂
I wanna cry after listening to this song
Great reaction! Regarding the Kendrick debate, I fully agree that an artist has to evolve in order to remain relevant. To me, that is actually "going up". As long as you adapt, stay relevant and keep to your style as an artist, then you're a legend.
Miss your Brazilian reactions. Now in Brazil even though the politics and economics are bad, the music grow so much. Pop is getting high, rap/hip-hop is growing and I’d like to watch your reaction to this genres.
drop us some suggestions as well as links to the music video links to our email ' Ubunifuspace@gmail.com '
This is so beautiful. So genuine.
I only discovered this song when it played in the movie Black Panther ❤️
Only logical - it's from OST, released couple of weeks before the film
TONYE, MY GUY BE HUMBLE, THE MUSIC WORLD HAS NEVER SEEN A GREATER ARTIST AS KENNY THAT MY GUY IS A GOAT
Back here on «all the stars are gloser reactions» !! I love this song, and i love to se people react to the music and the empowerment!!
Fuck what the guy in red is saying Kendrick Lamar is a legend. This guy is a goat in red
The problem with the guys argument in the red is he is trying to compare migos and kendrick in the first place. First they are two very different types of artist of who speak to different demographics. The only thing they are share in common is they are both connected to some form of hip-hop but on opposite spectrum's. Using versace, versace, versace as your base, in the case of the migos you have nowhere else to go but up! that song was the definition and antithesis of everything that defined rap/hip-hop. Technical ability, word dexterity, emotional magnitude, story-telling, etc, etc. Fast forward to Culture II and that album is terrible. So if we are using your mans logic then the Migos would be going "down"...
What I would say about Kendrick, its hard to top your best work ever created, just ask every hip-hop legend... I.E NAS! with that being said, I would say he hasn't gone down but continued to stay vertical which basically the same as staying relevant considering how monumental is first album was. Here is another example, The Sistine Chapel ceiling was painted by Michelangelo. Did he ever paint something greater then that again in his lifetime? Most if not everyone would say no. Another example, most all of hip-hop argues, that reasonable doubt by Jay-Z is his greatest project. So if he once again if follow your boys logic then everything he has made since then has be going "down". The theory of physics doesn't apply to art because its not governed by a set of rules, its an interpretation which your interpretation is made of life experiences, culture, background, economic status, etc, etc. So his argument doesn't make sense and it's false fallacy.
Last point, if we take his way of thinking and going back to the Jay-Z example then it would completely dismiss how impactful Jay-Z's latest project 4:44 was. The guy in the grey and black shirt on the right said it best, each album serves a purpose at a particular time and moment in history and what you extrapolate from that is dependent upon you. So your guys friend isn't "wrong" he is totally entitled to feel the way he does about Kendrick but is his "reasoning" is what's off. Just my opinion.
One thing that would serve you guys better when doing debates is to not talk over one another but let people speak one at a time so we as the audience can get clear sense of what everyone is saying. I know it's hard when you're in the heat of the moment but just a thought. Anyways I'm glad I found this channel and happy to subscribe. Respect.
Love u Ubunifu Space, love from Zimbabwe
I don't know what people are listening to when they say To Pimp a Butterfly and DAMN. are not as great as Good Kid Maad City I think they're both better than it and people think I'm mad
most people say TPAB was so ahead of it time , they just noticing now it better and greater than GKMC. but from me TPAB was always the one cause i can relate more to it
Definitely agree and while I don't think DAMN. is better than TPAB I think it's better than GKMC
Yes now you can't say his not evolving cause you like 1st album than the last. Cause we as people like different albums.
What if he made 6 other GKMC would we say his evolving or his stack in one place?
In my opinion TPAB was better than Good kid Maad city. It just showed what a true artist he is, that album had everything, so creative. And Since Good kid kendrick definitely has been going up not down. His name as artist has just gotten bigger and bigger, he's been growing and evolving. Yes Section 80 and Good kid are amazing album's, but they just different vibes. Kendrick has learnt how to evolve his music with every album, every album is a different vibe.
UNTITLED MASTERED is very underrated!!!👏 To Pimp a Butterfly and Untitled Mastered are his best. Track 8 on Untitled Mastered shits on the entire DAMN album.
Kung Fu Kenny is still King though. I love his music.
I feel like Kendrick is growing as all artists do. If he kept putting out the same material it wouldn’t have the same impact. He’s evolving, maturing, coming into manhood & consciousness. No shade to Migos but u can’t compare them, Kendrick has always been about substance & Migos is basically pop.
Great reaction guys. One love! 🖤
this reaction is so good and thoughtful and genuine
This is the Best Reaction video I've seen! Loved the convo. I loved the way there was disagreement but no disrespect❗As far as the Video, 10+. The lyrics 10+. It is literally My All -Time Fav Vid❗❗❗
Kendrick is the truth, doesn’t matter what colour you are.
Love ur vids.Keep up the good work
When she says that the stars are getting closer. She's rendering to continental Africans and diaspora Africans are coming closer. We are stars, in the creator's universe
This song is at the end of Black Panther and I can see the link of Africa and it's beauty and aspects this is why I looove this song it's an amazing representation of Africa and it's glory.
If it’s not going up it doesn’t have to go down.it can be a steady level
TONYE, uu are sick in the head bro Kendrick has never gone down he has been hip hop's best since GOOD KID MAAD CITY
Thank you so much for doing this reaction!
from ✨𝐒𝐀𝐔𝐃𝐈 𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐀✨ (continent Asia) And I love you, our neighbors (Continent Africa) 💙
nice , i waited for you guys to do this kind of song. Please do Joyner Lucas songs. I would like to hear your thoughts and insights.
Tpab is Kendrick’s best album but every album he’s had so far are great, he’s evolving trying new things, which artists should do !!
I love the reaction, but I agree, if an artist is going down in my opinion, I wouldn’t even pay tickets to go see them. Kendrick hasn’t went down, he went up but he’s going up in a different way.
Really love ur vids.... I'm from Namibia,Africa
Overly Dedicated; Section80; GKMC; TPAB and DAMN are all good albums to me and I think that Kendrick genuinely has evolved through out his sound and lyricism. And each project has some unique story being shared and I love it! ❤
Carlynn Rensburg Mee too greatly said 👌🏽
Just because Section 80 and Good Kid were abit more of a Raw kendrick type of vibe, doesn't mean TPAB and DAMN were any worse. They were great albums IMO and on a different level to any other hip hop artist.
Wassup guys! I first heard the song on a local radio station then saw the video afterwards, and man oh man, it got me THINKING deeper and deeper. I haven't had this kind of thoughtfulness in a very long time! Black WOMAN is God, Black WOMAN is Mother Earth, Black WOMAN is Mother of civilization it's that simple!!! Kendrick has surpassed the stage of rapper/artist, he's a cut above the rest! He's GROWN!
Next video is Prince Kaybee - Club Controller (Official Video) thanks guys.
I lov yall reaction much respect
I've become addicted to this song
On the Kendrick subject; a different approach to music doesn't necessarily mean he is losing his ways with rap/hip hop. I think he is evolving and I think for him to be better at music he needs to test his ways with trying new sounds but forever being a rapper, and hence the difference between the Kendrick we know who did Overly Dedicated, Section 8.0, Good Kid Maad City and the Kendrick who did To Pimp A Butterfly, Untitled Unmastered, and DAMN. So in my opinion he has evolved and got better since the transition from hard to a little more mellow rap but forever, only in the rap game, as real as Kendrick Lamar. For example back them my all time favorite song was "Sing About Me" from GKMC and now its become "These Walls" from TPAB. That's evolution to me.
Greatness. A+Love. Be Love & Well Always
That girl with the yellow shirt is gorgeous!
We love U Chadwick
Yeah they're called the CONGO DANDIES. Amazing human beings
First of all everybody has a difference of what is going up especially in music and second.... what you're saying as Kendrick not being the same as good kid MAAD city is him changing. That's like saying Multiplication is better than Addition when they're different concepts... Good kid MAAD city and the other albums he has put out are totally different concepts doesn't mean he has gone down
Also doesn't mean he has gone up. Personally, I think he stayed about the same with TPAB and then went slightly down with DAMN (it's still a great project just not as good as GKMC and TPAB imo).
Kendrick lamar the best rapper ever
Intelligent observations, keep up the good work...
I like this music video. It tells such a beautiful story. I like the "new" Kendrick Lamar. I like how he stays dropping messages in his music video.
Props to the director of the video for making it very visually pleasing and drawing creativity from the Black Panther movie.
Loved everything.
Kendrick is better than any artist who ever existed
I don’t think so
Wait. I was with y'all on the review of the video but not on Kendrick. That man has continued to grow and evolve and show different dynamics of being a rapper. DAMN. is an amazing album especially & in no way is overrated. To say he went down from GKMC just because that is your fave album is absurd. For example , B Day is my fave Beyonce album (2006) but I'd be craaazzy to say Beyonce has gone downhill since then just because no other album has captivated me in the same way. You have to go deeper in your analysis of growth. Also in regards to Kanye TLOP was dope so no I don't miss the old Kanye. Anyhow y'all are entertaining, keep it up. :)
big up ubunifu! this vid reminds me of the time when i first saw mj's "remember the time" vid (on mtv) back in the day. or even ziggy's, "black my story". afrika continues to inspire the world with its soulful outpouring of unlimited spirit, hope & anciency. kdot is sick, & I'm not just sayin that because we're both good seeds from the same mad city. he's a game changer. for non afrocentric americans (black/white/other), this is yet another wake up call vid, reminding the world who we were, are & have the potential to be. "you can take buckwheat out of the jungle but you can't take the jungle out of buckwheat". afrikan contributions to humanity should never be diminished or finished. wakaanda forever lol. it's a shame how some BA's want nothing to do with "mama" anymore. they have willfully disconnected themselves from their root & are therefore lost in time. no unity = chaos. (omarion & ty dolla $ign get it though) in the future, i wanna see more international diaspora link ups of all types (not just muzikal ones). then we'll truly be moving ahead. I also wanna see more "we are the world" type tunes/vids/festivals, full of global black superstars, coming together & donating ALL proceeds to targeted projects for socio-economic change in afrika & in the diaspora. wow..."YES WE KAN!" blessup
I have the black panther soundtrack on repeat❤ it's amazing
Sade yso damn beautiful. My eyes were mostly on her this whole video
This is the second time this week I completely disagree with your rating. This jam deserves at least a nine. This right here and Dumi iPhone need a re-reaction!
love all the stars. SZA and Kendrick are a perf collab. Please react to M.O x Lotto Boyzz x Mr Eazi - Bad Vibe next!
XD THAT INTRO THO
It's such a beautiful pretty uplifting video
Tonye is completely right about Kendrick, when you actually compare his projects, Good Kid Maad City is his best work, every song in there was a hit, get the tracklist and see
It's from the Black Panther Album. TDE is doing the album. (SZA and Kendrick)
Absolutely love this song,my country's flag at 03:50,Botswana
I could be wrong, but I always thought this song (and the whole album) was a perfect soundtrack that complemented the film and plot. The guest collaborators playing characters from the film's themselves. Kendrick plays the anti hero/antagonist Killmonger who reasons are just, but his actions blur the notion of good and evil. Where as SZA plays the embodiment of the dream realm from the film and her sadness sums up her fatigue with people trying to transport themselves to find themselves and justification of their cause. She's tired praying for a reason as all these people feel entitled (nods to all the previous men who have become Black Panther in the past). Kendrick's character is Killmonger. Not really a villain, but he is driven by the truth itself, something he feels he cannot find in this earth realm and then moves into the spiritual realm to find.
I don't know. I just love this song. I have a lot of love for superhero soundtracks. This is up there with one of the best. We've come a long way since Bat Dance to this.
I LIKE THIS CHANNEL.. YOU HAVE GROWN SO FAST

It's ok they shared the views they presented, but I was hoping for more critique of the videos and its meaning to better understand what was going on with the video. I know it's a debate, but even the further critique can have an added effect on the debate as well.
Really cool and funny group dynamics. KEep it up guys....
