4 Month Apartment Renovation - Gut Job Rebuild - Timelapse Edition [#16]

- 4 Months of timelapse video condensed into 25 minutes of renovation fury!
This was a 1bed 1 bath apartment unit above our garage that we converted into a 2 bed. There was significant termite and water rot that caused us to replace half the lower floor walls and replace some of the joists between first and second floor. definitely scary doing that type of work for the first time but you know, its still standing so I think we did alllllright!
Anyways, hope you enjoy and subscribe to the channel for more!

Nice job 👍 well oiled machine !
you are a champion!
Liked and subscribed! That was phenomenal!!
Awesome, thank you!
Love it! The booby lighting fixtures were not it tho 😂
sigh, everyone hates the booby lights LOL. i think i am now realizing i can find bulk suppliers of LED ceiling lights that are just as cheap as those home depot boob specials. next time, ill definitely use something better.
nice work. looks amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
More wood has been used than cement mix
It is absolutely beautiful 😍
Thanks for the kind words and support!
Ty
Looks nice, usually water lines are stubbed out above drain.
Thanks for the feedback and support. will do that on the next plumbing job
I would swap out the lights in the kitchen, those 'boob lights' are meant to be for bedrooms, and only a single fixture per room. Something with a flatter profile would work better, in a square shape would work. I'd also add some 'floating' shelves above the sink, but just deep enough for a few display items, not more than 6 -8 inches deep. Because everything is white, I'd do them in a light wood finish, as an accent.
Hi. Actually, I have been thinking about floating shelves for that area of the kitchen so we are thinking the same thing! i have these metal racks i was considering, so i could use the hanging hooks, but maybe wood is better with a metal bar underneath for those hooks. Also, i agree 100 with the lights, but again, its an economical build, so the boob lights were the cheapest option unfortunately.
@@ThinkMakeDo Great minds think alike, as they say. If you have the budget for materials, I would have maybe two floating shelves above the sink, and I would continue the backsplash tile between the shelves and above the top shelf all the way to the ceiling. That really gives the kitchen a designer look. Throw a plant and a few small knickknacks on the shelves, and you're an HGTV legend. :D Naturally the shelves should span the entire width of the void between the upper cabinets.
Good job
Thanks!
Awesome job!
looks awesome! only thing i would've changed is the kitchen lighting. 3 of the same lights look sort of weird to me.. but that's just personal preference. great work!!
sigh...those boob lights! thanks for the feedback, def going with a different style next time
Nice, I actually enjoyed the music also. 🎶
wweeee! glad to hear it, i actually spent a lot of time finding good music that i like !!!!!
Exelent work
Thank you! appreciate the support!
Muhteşem sonuç 👏👏👏 başarılar 😇
so amazing!!!
Very good work nice one gold star feedback all the best
Thank you so much 🙂
Amazing!!!!!!!
I want to be a construction worker one day but I hate wiring
canned lighting throughout the kitchen would’ve made it 10x better, beautiful job overall though !
I agree. i think some LED can lights would have been much better. Hopefully we can do a higher quality build on our next reno project! thanks for the tips and support!
Killer job! Just wish you did better on lighting fixture choices. Always say no to the nipple ceiling lights 😂
LOL, EVERYONE hates these dang nipple lights. never again!
😱amazing
i like music too
Great job I need you at my house
Bruh I blinked once and he had a whole wall up
This was awesome. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber here :)
Hurray! thanks for supporting the channel!

This looks amazing! How much did it cost to renovate this Apartment?
Hi Winter! hard to put an exact number on it but around 60K. Thats not really accurate however because i am not factoring in my cost of labor for about 80% of all the work that occured. that 60K is about 10k in electrical and plumbing contractors...and the rest are materials.
Oh my God. American Paper Houses ...
Only thing i cant now is wiring
183k
Did you feel some changes with the isolation?
nice job man, just subscribed.. How did you come to learn all this? I really wanna get into this but have no idea where to begin...
Hey Tony, ive made a storage loft before and a few workbenches, but that was the extent of my building skills. Lots of faith, lots of youtube and research every day before i started the next project on the renovation. Its not easy but definitely doable!!
@@ThinkMakeDo Thanks, looking forward to more videos from you.
What is the material for attaching ceramics to the gypsum wall?💜
Look up mapei type 1 ceramic mortar. Its premixed and one bucket usually is enough for an entire kitchen wall tile job
Great job! What camera are you using? Any specific software?
Hi Kevin. Just a GoPro Hero8 and Adobe Premier
This is really great work. Question for you. Are you all flipping apartments/houses? Or do you contract/collaborate with property managers?
This apartment is an above garage unit, and we did the renovation to make it a rental. Since this is all afterhours and weekend work we don't really do flips, its not worth the time/investment. long term brrr!
The ceiling lights are shitty but other than that it looks good.
I hate boob lights, too!
lol....home depot specials man....the boob lights are the cheapest you can find in most cases. im not a fan either but...budget and stuff =P
@@ThinkMakeDo What was the budget on this renovation job, just curious? and great work btw, new subscriber.
Why not paint walls before fitting kitchen as you spraying it would make more sense
Yeah actually, we totally should have done that first. Problem was the cabinet installer was ready to install that day, and the painter was behind schedule. just in time supply chain...gone wrong.
Next time we are just going to delay the cabinet installer until after paint because wrapping the cabinets was a pain in the butt.
60k wow no wonder they don’t remodel apartments
Why y’all didn’t add a/c?
Thats a great question. I wanted to but my partner did not want to spend the money. AC is not so common in middle/lower income areas like this apartment unit.
After all that footage, it was a shame not been able to see all the rooms and in slower motion, just a thought
Gotcha. Ill make sure to slow it down at the end. Thanks for the feedback and support!!!
did you go school for all the trade skills you have or you acquired them through previous construction jobs?
Hey Augustine! I did not go to trade school. I did however do a lot of machine shop and woodshop in highschool and love to tinker and build things as a hobby. I pretty much watched hundreds of hours of youtube on how to do every trade, and then just went by trial and error to get the job done. Home Renovision, The Build Show, This Old House...Larry Haun, I've watched them all!
Oh Yeah, Crazy Framer is awesome too....and MattBangsWood.
@@ThinkMakeDo thank you very much for responding ThankMakeDo, very much appreciate it!! Awesome videos!
What music 3:30?
what intervals did you use to shoot?
i think the gopro was set on 4k in timelapse mode with a pic every 5 seconds. but keep in mind for this video i sped up the timelapse 2x or even 3x in some cases to get all the content to fit in under 15 minutes!
@@ThinkMakeDo ok thx!
great work boyz youre hired
What software do you use , for the 3D rendering ?
Hi. I use Sketchup for all my modeling.
How much did it cost to do all these by doing it yourself?
stay tuned. I am planning to post a cost breakdown video for the apartment renovation in a few weeks. like and subscribe so you are notified when that one comes out!!!!
Why the doors red?
Just seemed like a nice color that pops well with the brown and offwhite exterior wall colors. its red with brownish tones to it?
Are you in the military?
Hi, no, but my partner on the project was Army, so you see him occassionally wearing his Army gear. I am also a fan of army surplus for work clothes and boots!
Love your video do you know the name of the first song?
I think its this song - Let Go - tubebackr
Its royalty free!
can you come do my house? please!!
What music 8:33
This is AMAZING!!!! Where do you find men like this??? He's so talented!!! What can't he do??? I have shorted out sections of my house 3x trying to do my own electrical. I know my limitations now..
You are definitely not alone. I spent 2 weeks trying to rewire the living room because i had wires backwards. lots of trial and error on this reno :)
Amazing, great work!!
Thank you! Cheers!
