Arken Optics Zulus ZHD520R: Bullpup trajectory bonus and pest control prep

- I explain how the large (72mm) offset between my scope’s axis and the rifle’s bore can be an advantage, helping me aim dead-on from 16m to 34m.
Primary zero = 30m, secondary zero = 20m.
This was preparing for an imminent ratting session, where I was able to join Stuart of @PestControlScotland for another monster waste tip ratting session.

Another video that won't earn me anything thanks to UA-cam's nonsensical arbitrary restrictions on anything gun-related. 🙄
Sadly, it takes years to get a following that creates revenue
@@Gotchatwice I've been doing this for years, but UA-cam's anti-gun randomly-applied nonsensical policy's are sadly now making things more and more difficult.
They apply US firearms policies to UK legal-limit fully licensed airguns. 🤦🏻♂️

Fine information 👌 keep scope information coming 😊
Thanks for watching Neil, cheers. Russ

Hi Russ
Good to see your new video.
Thanks for explaining the pellet trajectory graph. This explains a lot, I've always shot right to left...... No wonder I didn't hit anything 😂😂😂
Regards Snowflake 2
Thank-you and thanks for watching, hope it made sense?
All the best, cheers. Russ

Another good video im still lookin out for the post man for my zulus , think the post in scotland is getting worse.
Thanks Dave, am with you there, bah humbug let's canfel Christmas so the posties can concentrate on delivering our NV goodies. 👏
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Is there a target box/aim point for the laser range finder ? And is the laser splash always in target box/aim point at any distance.
Thank you Tim👍👍
There is, it's factory-set, and it's certainly aligned within airgun ranges.
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Thanks Russ, another good informative video.
Thanks Paul, cheers. Russ
Great video! 👍🏻
What IR scope would you recommend for close range ratting? I rarely shoot further than 15 yards.
And will the ballistic calculators work at close range (5-20 yards)?
/Nicklas
Thank-you Nicklas, hmm you'd probably be best waiting till the lower mag / wider angle ZHD312R comes out in January, though I don't yet know if that scope's LRF will work below 10m.
This scope works well down to 10m, but below that the LRF doesn't range (just like HIKMICRO LRFs).
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Ps. Currently the HIKMICRO Alpex and Cheetah have a significantly wider angle than the LRF/BCL-equipped PARD DS35s, the Cheetah is available with an onboard LRF and IR illuminator, although I'm not aware of a ballistic calculator upgrade (yet).
The Alpex is heavy (1.3kg) and scope-shaped, while the Cheetah's lighter and more functionally-shaped.
Oh and the HIKMICRO LRFs don't currently range below 10m either.
Cheers. Russ
Brilliant pieced of kit & review about this scope Russ. I need advice about the SD card tho. In the manual that comes with the scope it clearly states to use an "TF Card?" I contacted Arken Team and they confirmed "It supports 32-128g TF card. It is recommended to use a big brand of memory card, to ensure that the data will not be lost and other problems" I even rang Optics Wearhouse for advice and they just said they're awaiting delivery of these scopes & can't comment (yet) or advise on using SD cards as an alternative? There IS a difference between the two cards! What is your advice? Excellent channel. One of the best mate. Cheers Russ. Bob.
Thanks Bob, I'd just get yerself a couple of 32GB Sandisk class10 MicroSD cards (high speed) to have one in the scope and a spare in your wallet; that's what I use.
Each 32GB card is £10-12 from any decent supermarket and will hold up to five hours' footage each.
Hope this helps? Cheers. Russ
Cheers for your reply Russ. You're a star. Much appreciated mate. Bob@@RussDouglas222
@rpearce6984 My pleasure Bob, thanks for watching and please feel free to share with your friends.
Cheers. Russ
Give me more videos of the Zellas. I will watch them all. $1000 is too much for me so I have to save up for like six months for this scope. so please give me all the information you can on if it’s worth it or not or if I should just get a $400 FFP scope. or if I should get the thousand dollar ballistic coefficient rangefinder scope.
GOODNINFO RUSS
Thank-you Robert, and thanks for watching.
Cheers. Russ
Hi which scope is better in your opinion the pard 008s lrf or the arken Zulus what are the differences
I've owned Pard 008, 008s and currently own two DS35s, but I personally rate the Zulus above either Pard008. You should try both yourself, to see which you prefer.
Cheers. Russ
Hello, please tell me the minimum distance for measuring range? I bought a Zulus ZHD 520R scope, now I’m setting it up at home, I’m trying to measure the distance five meters to the wall of the room, it shows the error “measurement is abnormal”, I’m trying to measure the distance through the window to the street, the same error. Sorry for my English, I'm from Kazakhstan.
The ZHD520R's LRF can't range below 10m, and the rangefinder beam will be bouncing-off the glass, so you can't range through a closed window either.
The upcoming lower-mag' wider-angle ZHD312R is designed more for close-range work, and it can range down to about 3.5m; we hope to test it soon once it's available.
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
@@RussDouglas222 thank you
Hello Russ, what zero distance would you recommend for setting up the Zulus LRF , would that be 27m, thanks.
Hi Gary, I usually zero .22" @25m and .177" @30m (sub-12).
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Thank you Russ, keep up the good work...@@RussDouglas222
Hello again Russ, 30m zero for .177, what range would you use to chrono the muzzle velocity for the Arken app, thanks. @@RussDouglas222
@@garyshopland8948 I always measure muzzle velocity at the muzzle, with my chrono an inch or two clear of it.
Cheers. Russ
Thank you for your advice Russ@@RussDouglas222
Hello, according to your experience, which scope is more advisable or better between the Arken Zulus and the Pard ds35 lrf?... Regards
Good question Gabriel, both are excellent -I currently own both a gen.1 DS35-50RF and a gen.2 DS35-70RF, AND a Zulus ZHD520R... plus I'm currently reviewing the awesome new Zulus ZHD312R.
Both designs do the same thing and are excellent, but they're quite different, so you really should try both and see which suits you best.
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
@@RussDouglas222 Perfect, I really value your opinion, I saw that the Zulus 3-12Hd is about to be released and it is going to be great since it has a larger near field, what I like about the Pard DS is its internal circular screen, but the Zulus has better zoom management ..Difficult to choose.hahaha..Thank you for your time
@@gabrielianchuk8327 Happy to help.
Yep my first test / direct side-by-side comparison of the Zulus ZHD520R & ZHD312R was late afternoon today then as night fell.
Both superb scopes with amazing functionality, but if you don't shoot beyond say 40m (i.e. UK sub-12 airgunning), then the lower mag' / wider angle ZHD312R really is the mutt's nuts. 😍🤓
It focuses down to about 3-4m and ranges down to 5m.
Cheers. Russ
@@RussDouglas222Great..I would like to see your video with the Zulus 3-12HD so we could compare the angles..Big hug👍
@@gabrielianchuk8327 I'll do my best to get this online within a few days.
Cheers. Russ
Hi there, ive just purchased one of these scopes but when I put my details into the ballistic coefficient ie 9.6 pellet and 755 ft it only coming up 9ft on my calculator at 0 feet it should be 11.9. Can you help or iam I doing something wrong. Regards Billy.
I just checked and my own table was showing other data inc' MOA, after deselecting MOA and selecting energy I see the same thing (8ft/lbs instead of 11.46), so I'll ask Arken about this glitch shortly - but I just know it's calculating the actual holdovers correctly, as I'm hitting targets from 47m to 10m spot-on; so I'd ignore that tabulated incorrect energy value for now. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
@morganbilly417 Arken are fixing this around the middle of next week with an update for the smartphone App.
It's only an error with what the 'energy' figures are showing anyway, the calculated holdover values (that we aim with) are ok regardless of the ft/lbs figures.
Cheers. Russ
The latest version of the smartphone App now corrects this wee glitch.
What range would you recommend for me to zero my .22 fac reximex ixia at 30ftlb
I zero my .22" FAC FX Impact M3 at 50m or 60m... @60m the secondary zero is about 14m (you can check that by inputting all your data to the Chairgun Pro App).
Cheers. Russ
@@RussDouglas222 cheers also how do you measure the scope height I’m finding it hard mate there’s no videos on it
@@Theking-qx4zd Measure the objective lens diameter and the shroud diameter, the distance between the underside of the lens and the top of the shroud.
½ dia + separation + ½ dia = your value, then do an overall check on that figure with a tape.

...oh dear...how sad...never mind...lollol, nice video , though...😀
