  • After a good 20+ minute break in period to get her warmed up to 195*, I got her timing set up. I have it set at 34* all in at 3500rpm for initial driving during the rest of the bearing breakin period. The rings seated about 15 seconds into first start, like all of my motors. She has break-in oil with an extra bottle of ZZDP additive for the breakin duration.
After remembering that the timing mark for this year (1987) was at the 12 o'clock location, not the normal 2 o'clock, it sure made getting the timing dialed in A LOT easier today.
Thanks for following along this year long journey. She will soon be going to her new home and powering an Ex-Police Crown Vic, so if you happen across one that sounds a bit lumpier, beware, LOL.

I've had questions about the cam in this motor, it is a XR288HR Roller by Comp Cams in a 1987 IROC Step Nose design topped off with 1970 Corvette 3991492 casting heads sporting dual Comp springs and guide plates, QualCast Valves and Roller rockers. Specs for the cam are below. Its VERY responsive!
