A lot of you are pointing out this has to do with visuals, but if you actually watched the show you would know that the reason Soyeon is mad is because the stage the audience voted for was so bad they found it funny to vote for them. Honestly speaking, these idols shows need to give more authority to the judges, the people who have actually trained in singing/dancing/rapping etc. At least for the first few rounds as they weed out the people that lack in training and aren't improving. Visuals really mean nothing when you can't keep up with the group.

i think i somwhere heard that soyeon was in produce 101 and her demo stage was so cool, but she couldnt make it because the judges thought she wasnt 'pretty' enough to debut...
She consistently did well and her ranking through the show went [23 - 11 - 11 - 10 - 18 - 19 - 20 - 20]. She was one of the most capable trainees on the show and the mentors consistently praised her and applauded her for her amazing skill set, so it wasn't the mentors fault. She was at the mercy of being surrounded by other talented trainees and the public calling her ugly. It was never the mentors, it was the public. And then she debuted solo and flopped bc of her visuals before having a strong debut with GIDLE. She definitely saw how she had to struggle much more to succeed simply bc she wasn't didn't have the face people wanted whilst watching other trainees half-ass their way and get further than her easier. I'm glad Soyeon is a mentor on this show, because she is the most objective and reasonable here.

Soyeon never cared about visuals as long as the trainees got the talent.. This has been her advocacy since she was tagged as one of the non-pretty trainees in PD101..
I remember her saying to camera with somehow a smile on her face and teary eyes at the same time, that she was never pretty and she can’t compare with other trainees ever. That was heartbreaking. For me she was always pretty! Her gummy smile was the cutest. Look at her now, when she gained confidence she started to show her real glow, and I love it. Same goes for f.e. Chaeryeong. When she debuted, people were not pleased with her looks (idk why). But when she gained confidence through time, she’s GLOWING. Literally. You can see the difference in them, they gained even more beauty, elegance, they’re just...ethereal. My point is, because of their experience with public opinion, they know what they’re talking about. They have the knowledge that people who never experienced calling them ugly don’t have. What Soyeon is saying are facts, and you can see she took this from the bottom of her heart, because she know how it hurts. She’s so precious.
this somehow reminded me of what stray kids hyunjin said in one of their contents (two kids room hyunjin x changbin) he's tearing up telling changbin that he got scolded a lot before because he's not a great dancer, he doesn't know what's effort, he doesn't know how practice and at some point he hated dancing and when he finally started putting effort in dancing and having fun with it, he told other trainees that he want to be the main dancer even if he wasn't that great dancer before. and the people said "you're good looking so you don't have to do anything to make a debut" and hyunjin hated it. he wanted to be recognized by his talent and show people that he made it with his talent and not just his looks. i don't know what to do with this system fr

Even recently, during their show if I'm not mistaken that related to their comeback/ anniversary, they got such tricky question which chan had read it and ask them to choose, and hyunjin still got sensative in his answer. Heres the truth There was team previously who were talented but were visually not in the norms of korean beauty standards and in this round the audience is the ones who choose to give the teams a chance to be judged by the juddges. not to have negative thoughts towards Koreans in general, but most of them are really judgemental. like we get idols are also public appearance, they need the visual but obviously visual is not everything. why become an idol if you have no talent to show. (i'm in no way hating the 2 girls here cuz they did try their best, it's just the outcome might not be as expected). not just that, they intended to vote these girls just to make fun of them, which is really wrong. how could you play with children's feelings, like they need genuine support to improve, they're not something you could joke around about. the voting team should feel embarrassed.

To be honest, Soyeon is one of the most talented artist out there. Starting from being in survival shows such as Unpretty Rapstar and PD101 to debuting in Gidle and prouducing the group songs too. That's just insanely talented. Because of her experiences she knows exactly how the standard is as well as how the system works, I wouldn't be surprised for her to speak out to everyone.
More than Talent they prefer Visuals which is soo bad! I mean when a group debut, the positions are given eventually, if everyone is gonna be of a visual category than what about the vocals and raps? The team couldn't just get carried on entirely depending on Visuals. A successful team should be lead through talent and when the talent takes tool over fans no Visuals can be compared to the talents. I ain't talking particularly about this show. But when company agents and brokers go wild in search for trainees I never heard or saw anyone getting street casted because of their talents. They usually pick Visuals. For them talent comes next. When K-pop wasn't much known the companies cried to seek talents but now when the K-pop is getting famous and famous they train artists who have great looks and try to polish those ammatures soo hard that the trainees get exhausted by everything.

There was team previously who were talented but were visually not in the norms of korean beauty standards and in this round the audience is the ones who choose to give the teams a chance to be judged by the juddges. And they didnt pass by the audience's choices
But this team was honestly so bad that it was funny so the audience voted for them because it was funny to them. It literally had nothing to with beauty 😕
the reason soyeon was mad was that the audiences weren't taking it seriously so she quietly seriously told the audience that they need to know the responsibilities they have as the audience because it's the girl's dream that's on the line and it should be tooken seriously.

not to have negative thoughts towards Koreans in general, but most of them are really judgemental. like we get idols are also public appearance, they need the visual but obviously visual is not everything. why become an idol if you have no talent to show. (i'm in no way hating the 2 girls here cuz they did try their best, it's just the outcome might not be as expected). not just that, they intended to vote these girls just to make fun of them, which is really wrong. how could you play with children's feelings, like they need genuine support to improve, they're not something you could joke around about. the voting team should feel embarrassed.
The thing for me is that they did yes choose them because they are pretty but also because of the story behind the girls. They were two young girls that they could relate to themselves or their siblings trying to achieve more.

To be honest, Soyeon is one of the most talented artist out there. Starting from being in survival shows such as Unpretty Rapstar and PD101 to debuting in Gidle and prouducing the group songs too. That's just insanely talented. Because of her experiences she knows exactly how the standard is as well as how the system works, I wouldn't be surprised for her to speak out to everyone.

More than Talent they prefer Visuals which is soo bad! I mean when a group debut, the positions are given eventually, if everyone is gonna be of a visual category than what about the vocals and raps? The team couldn't just get carried on entirely depending on Visuals. A successful team should be lead through talent and when the talent takes tool over fans no Visuals can be compared to the talents.
I ain't talking particularly about this show. But when company agents and brokers go wild in search for trainees I never heard or saw anyone getting street casted because of their talents. They usually pick Visuals. For them talent comes next. When K-pop wasn't much known the companies cried to seek talents but now when the K-pop is getting famous and famous they train artists who have great looks and try to polish those ammatures soo hard that the trainees get exhausted by everything.
Finally someone who had the courage to say this on a tv show even though she knew she runs the risk of being hated for saying it. I really think Soyeon became my bias. Never had one, but my respect for this artist has really grown immensely.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
