    Hi Marie I am struggling with this so bad ! I get this lump of clay above my sponge while pulling my question is do I press on it and pull up or do I leave my sponge under it and pull up Thats what am still not getting about pulling the clay because the lump makes it wiggle and collapse on me or because when I pull I don’t know how to balance my fingers from the inside with my fingers outside I feel like I push from inside more then outside or the other way around 😭 do you have any advice for me I hope I explained it right 😢

    You’re so awesome for answering questions! I have another. I worked for hours today with no success. I get one side of vessel thicker then the other then it collapses. Is it a centering problem? I’ve watched your wonderful videos on centering again and again and will again😊 or is it something else I’m not getting. Thank you

      Thank you. Yes it can be a centering problem. It can also be a pressure problem. Make sure you applying the same amount pressure with your fingers as you are throwing. This Video may also help. Here is the link for you. 11 problems centering 😊

    I went to the pottery today. I couldn't pull the simplest small cylinder where as I've been doing fine. Very frustrating! So I pull up you're video to watch it again. The wheel was spin properly at counter clockwise. However I was trying to pull from the other side (the left). Do you think that is why my bowl would pull up smoothly and kind of warped?

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Рік тому +1

      Hi Emily. It sounds like you are doing it properly. There can be a few factors that come into play while throwing. First is having your clay centered. The next is making sure you open it evenly and applying even pressure as you are pulling up the wall. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes or if you have any more questions.

      Good question Janet. I cut up a sponge and tied it to a stick with fishing line. You can also get this Kemper sponge. Here is the link for you to check out geni.us/pSRsLo 😊 I just bought one but didn't test it out yet. If you like I can leave a comment after I do. 😊

    Excellent tutorial!! Thank you Marie! I will be watching this one a few times as I am still struggling with making a cylander. The closest I get leaves me with an uneven top. After watching this I realize that I am also going too fast. I will be practicing more tomorrow!

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  4 роки тому

      Your welcome Janet💖The reason why your rim becomes uneven is that you have more clay on one side of your cylinder. This usually happens when your not centered properly or the clay went off-center. Watch this video right around 3 minutes in ua-cam.com/video/6bNGgD2rxXA/v-deo.html I show how you can fix it. most of the time it works but if it's too lopsided it wouldn't work. Just grab some more clay and have fun practicing😍

    Do you ever work with raku clay bodies?

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ronald. Yes, I do. It's not much fun to throw with because it has to contain grog or sand to withstand the thermal shock. The 2
      pieces I last made and fired are on the cover or feature picture I just added to my Raku Article. Here is the link for you to check out potterycrafters.com/what-is-raku-pottery/

      @@PotteryCrafters what happens if you let the pieces cool off in the kiln instead of transferring them to a separate container with combustible materials?

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Рік тому

      Good question. You would still need Raku clay because you have a fast heating to 1800 degrees in an hour and if you let the pieces cool off in the kiln instead of transferring them to a separate container you would not get the whole Raku firing effect. 😊

    I started my journey watching Andy Ward who instructed me how to make clay, which was a huge success. Then I bought a wheel on Amazon for my starter wheel, watched some of your videos and I’m so happy I got the hang of it because now throwing pottery is my favorite thing to do!!! And your videos are extremely calming and easy to follow. You’re awesome thanks!
