An uncle of mine gave me a free Sony crt tv. and I loved it for playing my Genesis and N64 games. My wife and I recently moved to our new home and this video is a clear sign that I should go back and get my crt for my retro games! Perfect timing Bird. I’m going to try the snack while I carry 😂
When I had CRTs, I would always make it a point to buy multi device switch boxes for them to essentially put the hookup jacks in a conveniently accessible place, so as to not have to go back there to switch consoles, but also to have multiple consoles hooked up. I still find the switch boxes useful today for modern TVs that skimp on number of inputs on them.
My wife loves my 10 CRTs!😂😂😂 Every weekend we play GameCube (Mario Party 6). Right now I had 9 CRTs in my Retro Room and the biggest one (JVC D- Series 36") at the end of my garage. She bought a patio sofa for it.😂😂😂 By the way, great video as always. Love the serious topics with the mix of funny moments. Keep the great work!
Just wanted to say, I got stuck carrying a CRT down the stairs today. Literally was scared I would injure myself but thankfully the wall didn't even get hurt at all somehow, but very funny looking back and seeing this video. Love the channel.
I actually went out and found a free 27" Sony Trinitron because of your videos! I do recommend setting up a switch box that will allow for easy access when you need to reconfigure your consoles.
@@NotoriousCIB Not gonna lie, it took a few weeks to find one on FB marketplace. It was an hour away, and after deliberating due to it being so far I finally gave in and corraled a good friend to help me go pick it up. Good luck in your search.
I recently bought a tiny Panasonic crt tv with built in vcr! I’ve played snes games on it and it’s currently next to my sons bed. Just watched TMNT 2 secret of the ooze on that tiny tv the other night 📺📼
I had an old and pretty Sony that my wife didn't want me to bring home. I also had the whim of trying a posh B&O crt so my point was: "Ey honey, there's also some other danish crt that have won many design awards. They look georgeous and will fit perfect in this room. Come here and have a look". And with that smart movement I got green light.
The key is not to be greedy with huge TVs, 28" and up just for retrogaming is silly, just stay into the sweet spot (14 to 25" size is more than enough)
My wife made me lug my "free. You pick up" 40 in Trinitron up the stairs to hide it in the playroom. I needed pulleys and rope and a cross braced 2x4 across the upstairs bathroom door to mount the pulley. Plan ahead. A 200 lb TV is no joke. But the Sega Saturn light gun games. Yeaaaah. That's the ticket man...
A suggestion for making it easier to switch out cables on the back of a CRT is to have it placed on a stand that has locking wheels or install a set if possible.
Another idea is to get good quality cables for all the inputs on the back and then put couplers on the ends so you basically have extension cables. Then you can put those anywhere you want. My large TV is on a stand with big locking caster wheels so moving it wouldn't be difficult, but I found it was much more convenient to run cables with couplers on the ends so I can plug whatever I need to into it without getting at the back.
I have many CRTs. 3 in my bedroom. I have developed some tricks over the years. If you are going to have multiple CRTs, it's a good idea to get a rolling cart to place them on while moving around. This way you don't have to pick them up off the ground which is the hardest part. You can place a towel or blanket under them when storing or transporting so you can slide them instead of picking them up. I have multiple CRT reviews on my channel. I have a review on the kv-27fs120 which is basically the same CRT in this video. I also have a review discussing what size CRT is right for you. If size is an issue I would recommend getting a consumer grade 20 inch CRT. They are light and do not take up much space. Personally, I find 40 inch CRTs to be the "sweet spot". I Can lay across the room in my bed and a 40 incher still looks good.
I had the lucky fortune of my parents giving me their old Samsung slim-fit CRT TV. It is 27 inches but only 2/3 as deep as a traditional CRT. It was one of the last CRT tv's ever made, it is a shame that technology never had an opportunity to continue to get thinner.
I am younger and so I am at the mercy of my parents... I WAS BLESSED WITH A BIG ROOM I can fit all my game stuff including like 6 consoles and like 30 games and a crt this is a perfect setup for me other then some games I want and an input switcher
Literally started lifting weights again when I started getting back into retro gaming to prepare for this. I now have 2 crt tvs and yes there is a dedicated room for my games lol
I recently got a titan among CRT TV. 40" mitsubishi CS-40307. I showed this video to my wife. She's going to let me keep it. Its all thanks to you, Retro Bird. You're the best!!!
The groan while lifting is what did it for me. That's how I felt when I first had to lift my 1989 27inch Trinitron by myself. That thing is heavier than some of the 30+ inch sets of the early 00's. Had to give it away but I know the person who has it enjoys it very much.
I have not had a CRT in over 10 years. My last was an RCA 32in. Even though it took up 1/15th of my room it was such a joy to use. And on finding any I always see them on Craigslist for free.
I have a genesis, super famicom, tg-16 and a ps2 hooked up to a modern flat screen using composite cables through a cheap switching unit I got from ebay. I got rid of my last crt many years ago. I have been fine with this setup. In fact I never knew there was a difference in picture quality until I saw people talking about it on youtube.😆
As a kid I played my Nintendo and Atari 800 computer on a Black and White CRT TV. _Super Mario Bros. in black and white is the definition of nostalgic for me._ 📺
I once drove an hour for a Panasonic 27" CRT. We tested that it worked and when I was going to move it to my car, my strenght weared out and I dropped it a few cm above the pavement... I got it transported back to my apartment and had to wait for a friend to come by to help me getting up on the 10th floor. We cleaned it and hooked it up. The moment had arrived to hook up some consoles and to my horror, the TV booted and quickly turned gray on the screen and shut down. It was dead. Now I have a fantastic Trinitron from Sony instead and I am more than happy with that as well.
I had to show my wife that intro....literally that exact scenario played out in my home a few months ago when I brought home my CRT TV! We had a great laugh! Thanks for that!
I.... I don’t have a CRT in my kitchen right now... and two in the garage... and one in my bedroom... or two upstairs in the game room... or one in each of my sons rooms.... I don’t have a problem! My wife has a problem accepting the greatest technology ever created!
You must forgo heating in your house. Forget baseboard heating, you just fire up the Atari in the bathroom to dry your towels or the NES in the kitchen to warm your coffee.
This video makes me feel so seen. I got myself a Sony kv-32fs100 that is in incredible condition and using a few switch boxes, I have about 9 retro consoles hooked up to it. I absolutely love it. I got mine hooked up in the garage / retro gaming area with a couch and coffee table, so it is out of the way, but still easy to game on in comfort.
Great video. My wife is away visiting her family at the moment and I recently picked up a 28" CRT for a good price... and I'm going to collect another at the weekend, you know, so I have options. Like the option to sleep on the couch. I'm joking, I'm sure she'll love them.
Whoooa the holy Trinitron, the thing of gaming legends …. I actually have the same model (KV-27FS100L) and i am VERY happy to get it for $10. I even wiped it down with care like it was a new car
This video is so true and funny. I fully support my husbands retro video gaming and on the plus side I get to play also. He just put my sega console in our bedroom and I love it. :).
Haha your CRT lifting skills are impressive, Retro Bird! Brilliant and hilarious video, I've been looking forward to this since you announced it. My wife doesn't understand the CRT thing either, think that's pretty standard! The Super NT's scanlines are surprisingly authentic so act as a decent substitute for me
Like a decade ago my parents were poor so we had like 2-3 CRTs we got for cheap somewhere compared to a flat screen. We ditched them eventually of course but one of them remained sitting on our porch for a long time until recently when we threw it out. Never did I think I'd want to go back to that time period where I was using a CRT, but here we are lol.
Just got a free JVC 32260 TV sitting outside at our transfer station this morning. The guy opened a garage door to get an extension cord to test it first.. inside the garage was about 50 more styles to be trashed like the one I saved siting outside. Told him he was actually sitting on a tiny gold mine. BTW, it looks sooo incredible!!!
Its absolutely true haha i was the guy "its because i like it" and boom a 34 inch 185 pound crt in the floor in the living room haha with a dreamcast ps1 ps2 og xbox gamecube and a n64 haha the cables are just pure insanity
People online make this out to be SUCH a big deal for some reason, like they all live in frigging breadboxes or something. Almost every household found room for at least one CRT for decades, so it obviously can't be that hard.
I think part of the real problem is a spot best suited for a television is likely already occupied by another tv. I'm no interior designer but tvs tend to crowd the space and require clearance for viewing/use.
I wanted to get a CRT but all my gaming stuff is contained to a small office with a desk that can barely fit my computer, speakers, SNES, 20” Flatscreen HDTV, Power strip, and the cables that are as thick as a rattle snake. 😄. Just couldn’t pull it off.
12-14"" televisions are great for retro games and easy to deal with but I think it's the large living room units that people lust after. Those really need a living room sized space to use comfortably and make the most out of. That's out of reach for many of us, unfortunately.
“Move the CRT as little as possible” - proceeds walking around the house holding huge CRT - bench pressing huge CRT Talk about dedication for your videos :-D
Im only as far as the intro and this is incredibly relatable. I'm onto my 4th CRT I've brought home in the last month and my roommate pretty much thinks I'm crazy lol.
i just bought and stashed a crt in my car, found this video while looking up justifications for putting it in our living room xD allthough i do like the "being a jerk and just ignore the wife" solution haha, i doubt it would go over well though
I really love to own a big CRT tv but space is the main issue. I now own a 14 inch Philips tv. The thing I really love about them is they have a sturdy handle on top, so you can move it easily around. If I want to play them big I hook up my Mega Retron to the big screen. Only downer is that for lightgun games, a 14 inch tv is rather small but it brings back memories when I got just the tv in my teenage bedroom. So I call it retro!
For my bachelor party I got an Atari stand with a CRT inside of it. They even asked my wife if she was okay with it. She thought it was about a meter tall so she said "Yes he would love it". Then it turned out it was 2 meters tall :P Her enthusiasm went down quickly but she couldn't back out anymore ^^. It's standing in a corner of the room as a display piece and of course fully hooked up with most of my retro SCART consoles. Family and friends who visit mostly ask "How? Why? Does it work?" and I love it as do they when they play light gun games on it ^^
I have 2 CRTs and one on the way I need to move. One is a 90s Phillips Crt with a Component and S Video Input. I keep this one as my sons TV. I have another smaller Samsung 2000s Crt with a component input for my Game Room. I am planning to move this massive Trinitron to my home but just need to find the right furniture that can hold it.
Your videos are so addictive and super fun! I told someone I want to buy a CRT and they laughed so hard. "What do you want that thing for?" 😂😂 But I'm glad a have a little (or huge) corner reserved for it.😊
After having kids my crt’s got the boot. Now I play my ps2 games on an emulator and cry myself to sleep every night missing the high pitch frequency they produced
Oh my God that was hilarious your first opening bid bit with finding the TV next to a dead animal and stuff I literally just did that to my girlfriend 2 days ago I found a little CRT TV brought it in the living room and put it right next to our living room TV
When I moved to P.E.I at the beginning of 2018, one of the first things I bought (even before getting my house) was a 32" Sony Trinitron that came with the matching glass door Sony display stand off of Craigslist for $40. I moved out here before my wife and kids to start work and get things set up, so I brought my SNES and some games with me but had no TV to play on at the AIrBnB I was staying at for the month and a half before my house closing (older lady's place, didn't have a tv) so this Trinitron was my solution. I'd been wanting to get a CRT again for years, so it was the perfect tv to me at a steal of a price. When I told my wife, she was stoked about the deal and 100% on board; it's had a prominent place in the game room since.
My Trinitron crt is front and center of the living room in an reinforced entertainment center that came with it when i bought it with my hdtv on top of the entertainment center. Yea..thats how i like it.😁👍
I keep a Sony PVM 20L5 on an Ikea BROR shelf with all my old consoles hooked up to it. It looks amazing and so compact ! CRTs can still look great and can appear less bulky looking if paired up with the right furniture
I like to put my CRTs in corners, just like you... Because of their shape, I think that's the way to make the most efficient use of the space. To avoid having to reach behind the TV to plug/unplug stuff, I have a set of cables permanently attached to it, and then I connect my consoles to these cables instead, using adapters when necessary.
Your trapped self was great. I prefer the corner, growing up I never had one in the corner though. Man, I need to get a better tv next year when I get back to the States, hope they aren't all bought up or hella expensive.
I have one room to work with in regards to putting things that I want in. So when I picked up my Sony Trinitron 14-L2 PVM, I bought an Amazon Basics 14 inch wide 23 inch long rolling cart that I put it on. I put my retro consoles on it, and also got a small class D amplifier and some small shielded speakers and set everything up. It works really well and is mostly out of the way. I can roll it out when I want to play on it, and get it as close as I want to me, and then I can roll it back to where it stays mostly out of the way. Unfortunately one of the wheels busted, but I was able to get it covered under the warranty.
I'm the equivalent of a cat lady so call me the "CRT sir" because I just want to bring to my home each crt on my path !! I currently own 5 tvs but at least I'm reviewing those in my channel... perhaps that's one of my excuses other than gaming ! LoL
We have the same CRT! I think yours might be slightly larger but it's a fantastic TV. I only have room to put it on top of a dresser where it's honestly a bit inconvenient to play it, considering getting someone to help me move it to a closet that opens up or outside the room since I'm far too weak to be moving that monster on my own. Lol
It's the most common flat screen Sony that I run across. Very good TV. I have a review of it on my channel you might enjoy. Actually my review is on a KV-27fs120. The TV in this video is a KV-27fs100 but they look the same.
A timely video Sir, only last month my wife remarked "You have a TV in your closet?" - Heh, well YES I brought it in from the condo recycling one day while she was out, it has been sitting in the closet ever since as I wondered if I could ever make use of it at some point. Sadly we live in a one bedroom condo, this will not change anytime soon, I am semi retired, we own this condo and the next stop will probably be into and old folks home. Point being we will never end up in a bigger place let alone one where I have my own dedicated room for a "Man cave" so my collection of various consoles and computer from the 70's-90's remain in storage, in my closet, under the bed, behind the couch etc. Not getting any younger or healthier, and yet seeing that 27'' Toshiba tube TV I just cold not bring myself to leave it in recycling, it powers on, the picture seems fine and though I have no remote all settings can be adjusted from the panel buttons manually. BUT WE JUST DON'T HAVE THE ROOM, I KNEW THIS, I SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT BUT I AM A WEAK MAN, A WEAK, WEAK MAN. 😐🤷♂️
I bought a 32inch Trinitron and it weighed 180lbs. My wife and I tried to bring it up the stairs and it was a nightmare. I eventually downgraded to a 20inch which was much easier to manage and it has a headphone jack in front which was a helpful feature back when we only had a one bedroom apartment. I now have a 13 inch PVM as well. But I still like playing on the 20 inch. I don't think I'll ever go bigger than that.
When I'm moving my CRT TV, I have always use an free wheels dolly to be able move it around. Last year, I have modified and added some free moving wheels to my fat wooden tv stand. So, I'm able to easily move the CRT around and getting back at the connectors

All right!
I have one in my room for my PS1,nes, and snes and I would definitely say it's been worth it
When I had CRTs, I would always make it a point to buy multi device switch boxes for them to essentially put the hookup jacks in a conveniently accessible place, so as to not have to go back there to switch consoles, but also to have multiple consoles hooked up. I still find the switch boxes useful today for modern TVs that skimp on number of inputs on them.
My whole body is going to be sore for a week after watching this.
Thank you :)
My husband loves my 20 CRT's.
I do recommend setting up a switch box that will allow for easy access when you need to reconfigure your consoles.
extron crosspoint matrix switchers.. problem solved
How does one find a free Trinitron? Asking for a … friend
All right!
@@NotoriousCIB Not gonna lie, it took a few weeks to find one on FB marketplace. It was an hour away, and after deliberating due to it being so far I finally gave in and corraled a good friend to help me go pick it up. Good luck in your search.
@@Level1Sword Haha. Nice! I’d make the drive too. Maybe I need to widen my search.
I have four. In my opinion, a CRT is a must if you really take retro gaming seriously.
I recently bought a tiny Panasonic crt tv with built in vcr! I’ve played snes games on it and it’s currently next to my sons bed. Just watched TMNT 2 secret of the ooze on that tiny tv the other night 📺📼
Sweet!
The key is not to be greedy with huge TVs, 28" and up just for retrogaming is silly, just stay into the sweet spot (14 to 25" size is more than enough)
oooh yeah aint that the truth.a 13 and 20 incher is all i need.
Virtua Cop 2 makes it all worth it :)
40"?? Is it the KV-40XBR800? That thing's 304 pounds!! Holy cow
A suggestion for making it easier to switch out cables on the back of a CRT is to have it placed on a stand that has locking wheels or install a set if possible.
Or the ports may be on the front
Love the lifting form. All you need is some lifting straps, chalk and a gallon jug of protein powder. Home gym!
He’s.. the.. retro bird yeahhh
I'm legit impressed with you carrying that CRT at the beginning. Don't hurt yourself!
The fact that you carry that TV by yourself is amazing 💪😄💪
I have a 28" Philips crt, amongst others for my retro consoles. Theres no other way to play than the Tv tech they were designbed for. Brilliant.
I have 2 Sony Trinitrons: 1 in the closet and 1 in a cabinet. Love those CRT Televisions!
I recently got a titan among CRT TV. 40" mitsubishi CS-40307. I showed this video to my wife. She's going to let me keep it. Its all thanks to you, Retro Bird. You're the best!!!
Glad it worked out for you!
this is the pinnacle of CRT - nice size, component input, flat screen and Standard def (so NO input lag) - good find!
Thanks!
Loved the into. Hilarious and surprisingly accurate. My CRT is set up in the basement and my younger kids don’t even know it’s an older tv.
Bless your dedication to the video by actually hauling around that television.
Right?!?!?
The groan while lifting is what did it for me. That's how I felt when I first had to lift my 1989 27inch Trinitron by myself. That thing is heavier than some of the 30+ inch sets of the early 00's. Had to give it away but I know the person who has it enjoys it very much.
I have not had a CRT in over 10 years. My last was an RCA 32in. Even though it took up 1/15th of my room it was such a joy to use.
And on finding any I always see them on Craigslist for free.
I recently got a 20 inch Sony Trinitron for my small game room and I have it on a cart so when I want to use it, I just wheel it out and plug it in.
I can't be the only one who votes on your topics anticipating your gags more than the discussion.
As a kid I played my Nintendo and Atari 800 computer on a Black and White CRT TV.
_Super Mario Bros. in black and white is the definition of nostalgic for me._ 📺
Nice thing about B&W TV's is that their resolution farly surpasses that of professional BVM/PVM colour monitors, even over RF.
Glad to hear it!
I.... I don’t have a CRT in my kitchen right now... and two in the garage... and one in my bedroom... or two upstairs in the game room... or one in each of my sons rooms.... I don’t have a problem! My wife has a problem accepting the greatest technology ever created!
It's a CRT TV family. How does movie night work though?
You must forgo heating in your house. Forget baseboard heating, you just fire up the Atari in the bathroom to dry your towels or the NES in the kitchen to warm your coffee.
This video makes me feel so seen. I got myself a Sony kv-32fs100 that is in incredible condition and using a few switch boxes, I have about 9 retro consoles hooked up to it. I absolutely love it. I got mine hooked up in the garage / retro gaming area with a couch and coffee table, so it is out of the way, but still easy to game on in comfort.
Dude you are a tall fellow... lol I could barely wrap my arms around the front screen
4:16 I went to my Gym and Asked if they had CRT there, Luckily they had one i could use
What a great gym!
This video is so true and funny. I fully support my husbands retro video gaming and on the plus side I get to play also. He just put my sega console in our bedroom and I love it. :).
That works out well that you're both into the hobby :)
How about ten tho?
I think part of the real problem is a spot best suited for a television is likely already occupied by another tv. I'm no interior designer but tvs tend to crowd the space and require clearance for viewing/use.
I wanted to get a CRT but all my gaming stuff is contained to a small office with a desk that can barely fit my computer, speakers, SNES, 20” Flatscreen HDTV, Power strip, and the cables that are as thick as a rattle snake. 😄. Just couldn’t pull it off.
Houses also found room for a Nortictrack back in the day, but…
12-14"" televisions are great for retro games and easy to deal with but I think it's the large living room units that people lust after. Those really need a living room sized space to use comfortably and make the most out of. That's out of reach for many of us, unfortunately.
“Move the CRT as little as possible”
- proceeds walking around the house holding huge CRT
- bench pressing huge CRT
Talk about dedication for your videos :-D
One of the funniest videos you’ve done. You screaming for help behind the tv was amazing lol!!!!
Glad you liked it :)
You are kind of a beast for carrying that like its nothing. I've been enjoying your videos recently!
Dude I love this channel. You’re the best!
Thanks! Glad you like it :)
I agree! But, I am his mother ❤️
Im only as far as the intro and this is incredibly relatable. I'm onto my 4th CRT I've brought home in the last month and my roommate pretty much thinks I'm crazy lol.
I got a 27" Sony Wega and it warms my room up. Kinda nice in the winter.
i just bought and stashed a crt in my car, found this video while looking up justifications for putting it in our living room xD allthough i do like the "being a jerk and just ignore the wife" solution haha, i doubt it would go over well though
Fun to see the channel grow, 9k now. Remember it being around 3k-4k not that long ago.
Honestly, he deserves every sub
Don't currently have a CRT at the moment but I do remember it significantly getting hot when I would use it as a kid.
I remember the buzzing it used to make. I prefer the modern TV because they don't make buzzing like the old ones. 😅
No ax in the heat of summer sitting in front of a warm CRT? Classic.
yeah the people i lived with were not happy that i got a 31 inch CRT even tho its in my room. but its worth it
They just don’t understand.
My crt tv is an old 34in RCA "Xbox ready entertainment series, my snes and genesis games look and sound great on it👌
I’m jelly
Loved your Into Bird," slap there pants and do there favorite dance," love it bro
Best video I’ve watched all week. 😄
Your videos are so addictive and super fun! I told someone I want to buy a CRT and they laughed so hard. "What do you want that thing for?" 😂😂
But I'm glad a have a little (or huge) corner reserved for it.😊
Glad you're enjoying them!
Your videos are amazing, and I think this is the funniest one yet!
I got a Toshiba 13in CRT around five years ago and I put it on my desk which is a great place for it
My Trinitron crt is front and center of the living room in an reinforced entertainment center that came with it when i bought it with my hdtv on top of the entertainment center. Yea..thats how i like it.😁👍
This is one of my new favorite channels.
Glad to have you around!
Retro Bird CRT exercise tape when
Hmm, you may be on to something.
Hopefully much like the prices of games themselves, things will have cooled down a bit by then.
I’ll make sure they save one for you.
@@NotoriousCIB very kind
LoL
When you see a CRT, you can't just leave it there. It needs a home!
Man how you carrying that crt so easily. Mine breaks my back
Must be all the bananas. He got that crazy monkey strength.
Riggel has it right. It's the nanners.
Agreed. I would be on the floor reaching for my Life Alert right now.
Most people will need PEDs to lift one.
I have an EHD tv, 480p flatscreen/no glare, super light. It doesn't have scanlines but it plays SNES thru Gamecube like a dream.
I'm all about the mini CRT VHS COMBO tvs. No divorce this way 🤣
Also real talk...I have 3 in my game room. It's amazing
Those suckers are great. They're practically portable, so you can bring them wherever.. coffee shop you name it.
I've 2 CRTS and 2 lcds in storage, still trying to plan out a room layout, wish me luck lol
Yeah, like Riggel said it's a fairly common TV (and a good one too).
It's the power of the CRT :)
You’re pretty smart, man. My solution is to throw out my back every time I move my TV.
@@NotoriousCIB 🤣
Lol my parents crt still worked, it’s a sharp and it looks great with my snes, wii, genesis
