For those of you that want the meat of this video just go to this point 1:51. I really love this entire song and wanted to make sure I did it justice and play all the lead parts. However, for video purposes I did have to cut the song up a little bit and that's not something I like to do, my apologies if that bothers anyone. If you like what you hear, you should definitely check out this song in all its entirety, it is truly a masterpiece from beginning to end :D
If you haven't heard the story of Jason Becker, I highly recommend looking it up. He is one of my absolute favorite guitar players and truly an inspiration to all.

It is an extremely versatile guitar ... the arm is very fast. I use this guitar with a Boss Metal Zone2. You can get very warm, bright and crisp sounds only play with the pads and equalization. The riffs are amazing. I'm fascinated with this guitar ... The tuning is very stable, even if you use the lever hard. I think a ENG amplifier would be more appropriate than a Marshall, but I have not been able to test.
I agree with you. It's fast-playing, really stable in tuning, and really really full in tone. A lot of lower-midrange and treble. Basswood and DiMarzios just go really well together. I run this thing with a Marshall and it sounds freakin' brilliant but i use a different EQ than most. keep the highs cranked up, but roll off the bass and crank the mids.
Sadly i've never played an ENGL... no local stores I know of carry it. You're very likely right.
I've run my Ibby through a Mesa before. Damn near bought the Mark 5 combo. I have a JVM410 combo with essentially stock tubes... tried messing with the tubes, and just went with replacements of the stock spec ones. I really need to borrow a buddy's 5150 and put my rig through it too.
I haven't tried the Zakk pedal but I LOVE the Tube Screamer. Although I went through about 12 different pedals one day and the TS came in second, to the Fulltone OCD. It has a little different voicing but it just fits my rig like a glove. And yeah you're right, it's supposed to add more tone with negligible noticeable increase in gain. And I would just LOVE to own one of those old 550's. Something awful close is my guitar teacher's early-90's RG760 which he just WILL NOT GIVE UP. I have a 1999 RG520 with some exotic veneer though. Kind of bridges the gap of new and old. Doesn't have the old-style blocky neck joint though. DOES have the original skunk-striped Wizard neck which is just killer.
But you know I'm actually kinda mad at Ibanez... I hope this is only for a couple of years, but they've gone all back to the old-style Edge bridges. I mean, yeah, those are great, I have one, but the Edge Zero, as far as I'm concerned, is the single best guitar bridge in the world. It's a big part of what makes the 3550 so great. But oh well... I'm just happy I have mine. Best guitar I own and as far as I can see in the future, ever will own.
