After late Malika Muasique Roshan Ara Begum Ji, in my humble opinion, she is the only female singer today in the iIndian sub-continet that can keep the classical music alive and entertaining. She is Waaaooo!!!..I don't understand why people are so negative and critical about her. She is one of the young vocalist who has achieved so much..Her gayaki is superb. Her rendering of the raag is great..She surly is my role model.

Very good . All anunadhams are heard. Tonal quality is fairly complex. As becomes the raag name, Swan soft. Svetasvatara Upanishad comes to mind. Swan ensouled is the flight of the swarms. Sweet teen taal. Well done

never heard of this raag. at first i thought it was jonpuri, but still the effect is tremendous. she is a good singer
I do want to say that there are people who like variety. She comes from a gharana where those instruments are not just supposed to be supportive. And dear artist if you are reading this: please pay not the slightest attention to critics like these, who get hired to write because of their writing skills rather than knowledge of music. Prabha Atre was similarly criticized in her young days. If you look good and smile, there are people who won't like it. Ignore them!

I see what you're saying. I was just merely expressing the feelings that I felt after watching the video. They are neither correct or incorrect, but my opinion based on my experience with ICM. I have great respect for her and all other artists regardless of their style. I didn't look deep into it to find something wrong with it, I simply listened and reacted..perhaps too boldly. I'm sorry if my statement came off too strong or hate-like.

The young lady obviously has tremendous tayaari and a beautiful voice. God has more than blessed her with a great guru and great voice.
It may help, however, to stick to bringing out the mood of raga and lessen the vocal gymnastics. Also the tabla solo in the middle of the raga is long enough to make you forget what raga was going on in the first place.
We can never forget the 'music' itself is above any of us and our skills.

@divinemilkman there are always influences of one tradition on the other..i dont know if some raga has been adopted in carnatic from hindustani. But, in carnatic music, violin is commonplace, which is not an indian instrument (its italian)...so these kinds of borrowing from one tradition to other is always there..

I agree with you, variety is good. I just gave my honest opinion at the time about certain aspects of the video based on what i've learned and experienced. My opinion could be wrong and i'm more than ok with that. I understand certain styles use more mathematics, instrumentation, sargam etc. Perhaps my comment had too much of a negative overtone, and i apologize for that. I don't mind her smile or her willingness to experiment or entertain. She is a highly talented and sweet young lady.

The display of technical dexterity is probably not the virtue of great singers. Mechanical taans is not her job. She is a very good singer and she should focus on expressive power of her song like her teachers.

yeah , correct technicalities should not be prominent in Indian classical , primary thing should be to express the feeling of that raga inspite of technicalities which s fusion or u may say confusion. because technicalities can never define the soul of any raga and can never lead a person to peace but end up exciting the people which is not real Indian classical music , artists should not degrade the authenticity of classical music by showing fusion because this distracts u from raga..

Perhaps you should listen more intently to the background music playing along that tabla composition. Clearly, if you truly feel the raga, you won't forget even if the background music stops. So please don't spoil something as divine as this with technical crap. No offence.
