    I have a question. Is weight "always" proportional to mass? or it just proportional when the acceleration due to gravity is constant? This is pretty confusing for me because as mass increases so do weight, does that means they are "always" proportional?

    • @catluong9660

    • @boboganbobogan9297
      @boboganbobogan9297 3 роки тому

      @Husayn Ahmed Year 8 the force of gravity is always the same. all problems we solve in physics we neglect the air resistance. but in real life the air resistance is there and that's why heavier objects fall faster than less heavier ones and the gravity is still 9,8

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 місяців тому

      @@catluong9660 Since gravity is close enough to uniform, we treat gravity as a constant. This means if mass is the ONLY thing we change, then mass and weight are proportional to each other.
      For a more general application, we'd need more information about the two situations you are comparing, to conclude whether mass and weight are proportional to each other. Usually when we have a formula like this, and we are asking about a proportional relationship between two variables, it is implied (unless other information is given), that we are holding constant, the one we didn't mention.

    If you want to measure mass, what are the steps you need to follow?

    • @boboganbobogan9297
      @boboganbobogan9297 3 роки тому

      first of all you need to write this equation: F=mg where m is mass and F is as same as weight

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 місяців тому

      You either:
      A: Place it on a scale and measure how much the scale is either squeezed or stretched. From the known spring constant, you then know the support force. The support force equals the weight to keep it at rest. If you do this in a known gravitational field, you divide by the gravitational field to get its mass.
      B: Place it on a balance, and compare the torque due to its weight, with the torque due to a reference weight. The mass of the reference weight, scaled appropriately for the geometry of the balance will tell you its mass.
      C: Allow it to oscillate on a spring of known stiffness. Measure the vibration period (T). Using T=2*pi*sqrt(k/m) and the known spring stiffness (k), you can solve for the mass (m). This is how it is done on the international space station.

    What is g representing I think it's not gram so what is mg

    • @rustjones385
      @rustjones385 5 років тому +4

      M=mass in kg
      G=gravity
      W=mg
      W=(mass)(gravity)
      Gravity is usually 9.8

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 місяців тому +1

      g as a variable represents gravitational field strength. A property of an astronomical body that tells matter which direction to experience a force, and how much force per unit mass to experience. Because both the force and inertia are proportional to mass, it also tells us acceleration when no other forces come in to play.
      It is just a coincidence that as a unit, it also represents grams. You have to keep track of when it is a unit, and when it is a variable name, as they are not interchangeable.

    In order to find the number for mass, what equation did you use with 9.8 to find m= 102.2 kg? I am not sure what I am missing. Thank you for your help!

      1001.25 N divided by 9.8 equals 102.2 kg

    • @purplemint11
      @purplemint11 4 роки тому

      Derive tbe formula from Weight= mass x gravity so the weight that we got was 1,001.25=mass x (9.8) to get mass, divide gravity from weight so it will beee, 1,001.25/9.8= 102.2kg( mass)

    Science book says things are lighter the further from the ground of earth centre?????
    And a lighter object can extend the spring less than heavier, maybe it doesn't have to, but does that make sense so a heavier object will extend the spring more ????? And mass, the books say the mass stays the same wherever it is, um doesn't it depend on how much matter, the greater the matter the more difficult to move yes but you can have not much matter and still not do much right, idk and the density well hmm anyhoo, I was thinking west we count ass, east we count mas or at least mass is not one word, thankyou for your video

    Hello, I know you don't know me, but I want to tell you to seek God because he is coming soon, and that you run the great and horrendous danger of dying without Christ because if you don't repent you will receive a punishment because you have sinned against God, and nothing No one from this world can save you, only Jesus because he came here to earth to die for each one of us so that through Him we can be saved because when he died he paid that debt that we have with God but the question is if you accept it or not, and you will know that you have failed God when you see the 10 commandments, honor your father and mother, do not say the name of God in vain, you will not steal even if it is small, you will not fornicate, you will not look with lust and these are some, Seek him is life or death we have all failed but Jesus made the way to be saved no matter who and how great the sin.
