Thanks Skyler. Damn selfish people blocking the hydrant. I've been retired 16 years and it never changes.
Yeah really a shame!
Around the 11 minute mark, it sounds to me like Command didnt really know how bad the fire had become. They kept asking about handlines. This fire is now gonna require several Towers and Aerial ladder water towers. The Chief at 12 mins saying things are deteriorating quickly gave a great update.
Yes from what you can’t see from the street is a good example!
Magnificent video Skyler. It’s rare to see a fire jet the jump on the FDNY like this one. But there at the start of the video is the legendary Engine Co 82 hard at work on the roof fighting it. All the members did outstanding work there. I hope all those folks get shelter and no pets were lost. Keep up the good reporting.
Not only did 82 end up there, but the next 3 engine companies that were relocated to cover 82's area (263, 59 and 205) ended up there as well. Funny how the relocation system works, but it works well.
Thank you very much!
At 23 minutes into the video.I heard a HT transmission confirming what we can clearly see happing. The brothers were making amazing efforts opening up the ceiling to expose a very heavy volume of fire throughout most of the cockloft .Conducting an Outstanding interior attack, members of this job will never give up .Regardless of multiple TL operating .Command with multiple transmissions,of clear the roof and top floor apartment. That was the time to clear the 6 th /Top floor .With the heavy volume of fire throughout the cockloft that has now clearly burned through the roof .That 6 fl ceiling is going to collapse .Sorry the use of those TL were not used earlier on. Outstanding efforts as always .Safe Tours Always
Thanks so much for your comment! I big factor was not having 95 foot tower ladders if they had saw earlier on I think they would have pulled everyone out a lot earlier
DAMN..... can feel the heat....one of the best videos you have produced Skyler, as always we all appreciate your coverage and excellent comms !!! 👍
prayers extended for the injured and displaced residents 🙏
Thanks so much!
@@SkylerFireuuuuu hi oiooool lol l lol
Complex fire situation Skyler, and though it is dangerous in the video, hard work by the FDNY pays off here.Cooperation and training in the academy is put to the test, Skyler.BTW,great call by Fire Command to get everyone off the roof.
For sure! Thanks for watching
❤A band that deserves all the love and appreciation
Thanks
Thank You Skyler for all your efforts reporting on this multiple alarm 🚨
Thanks so much!
No idea how more guys didn't get hurt with that volume of fire and conditions going downhill like they did.
Great video from the exposure roof, Skyler.
That fire was way ahead of them big time. Very scary Fire indeed
Amazing, heroic and quite frightening! Appreciate the ability to get a glimpse of the operation/coordination involved. I've never seen fire destruction from this perspective before.
God Bless all fire fighters they put there lives on the line everyday.
Thanks
The Best Skyler ! Great Work
Thanks ✌
That one was a tremendous fire. Great job to you and to JJ.
Thanks 👍
I think this is the largest number of special calls beyond the 5th alarm. Huge fire🔥
5th alarm is the highest so everything will have to be special called after
Badass coverage! One of those chiefs from the command post needed to up there where you're at.
Great job Skyler! Speedy recovery to the injuries!
Thanks
@@SkylerFire You're welcome
Amazing video as always Skyler!
Thanks
Nice work, Skyler. That one was a MONSTER.
I clipped and shared part of this one, where you said the whole roof was on fire. Stay safe out there!
Excellent video! Love watching your channel
Thank you very much!
That was crazy close-up! You and JJ are amazing with the angles you get. They got a handline up to where you were on the roof at some point, which seemed like good move, albeit a bit later. On JJ's video, it showed a single officer(??) up there early on, but I didn't see him later. So I guess my question for someone in the know is, at what point do they stretch lines to adjacent exposures that have a decent shot where a tower ladder can't hit. This seems like the perfect case for such a tactic.
Great Job Skyler!!
Thanks
It the great meeting you and nice video keep up the great work
Thanks so much! Nice meeting you as well!
amazing coverage and channel. I live in a small city, so pretty fascinating seeing what fire crews go through in large city.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent coverage and video
Thank you very much!
First time I have watched your videos what an amazing job you do. Thank you for sharing
My first time, too, seeing your videos. Thanks, Skyler.
Wow amazing video as always .
Thanks again!
Great job on the video...
Thank you!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Pretty good work on the video.
God Skyler be careful great coverage, be safe!
Thanks
Great video
Thanks for the visit
I’ve never seen smoke that black. Crazy!
Great filming by your good self, crews worked hard. Has FDNY considered buying 64M 'bucket' ladders because London Fire Brigade (UK) has purchased three, the reason I ask this, New York (Manhattan) has more high rise buildings condense in a small area (not that it is small by any imagination) with a dense population which would be perfect, especially on jobs like this.
Keep up the good work that you JJ produce. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. They tested the Bronco Sky-lifts but to maintain, storage and since the roads so much traffic it won’t work…. Prob would take a good 45mins to get to that fire
A once beautiful old building.
Great Footage of the fire
Have you thought about PRAYING for the tenants who have lost their home with no place else to go and lost all of their possessions in the fire.
Thanks for watching
This is my building. I live on the opposite side of the fire. On the 4th floor and my sister lives on the 4th floor on the side where it was fire. I saw 2 ladders behind the building not putting any water on the roof for a long time. I don’t know what happen but they had a hard time putting water on the roof. So far we have not been able to go back in. At one point they said the fire was out. And then it spread from the front to the back. We have 4G cell equipment on the roof with miles or wires! I think helped spread it. But also the roof was just redone. Took them 3-4 years to do the roof.
Fire got into the Cockloft which is the space between the top floor ceiling and roof. They tried to stay inside fighting the fire but it was to far ahead…. This is a tall building and only some ladders can reach the roof to put water onto the roof.
That was a great roof top spot for a couple 2.5 inch lines .......didn't you have a buddy down below to tell ?? ......you have the freedom of freelance and get eyes where no one else has a chance........nice video thank you !!
Yes I went down and got someone to get a 2.5 up there.
Oscar worthy!!!!
Thanks for watching
Get after it and stay after it. Good job
They worked very hard but this fire was way ahead
@@SkylerFire Old building look like no fire stops Fire Dept did a good job putting a stop on it.Did you work on the dept ?
@@ronaldhathaway1613 no I don’t work for FDNY
God knows they are fighting a stubborn hot fire 🔥 It is turning out to be a mean monster!!
I honestly feel like I just watched a controlled burning of peoples homes.
To see ladder hoses extended but not applying water for a long time speaks of the commander failing in his/her duty.
Hi Skyler, I've been watching your videos and JJ's for a few years now, but I've always wondered what most of the roofs in those buildings consist of? It looks different to what roofs are made from in Australia. Btw did you see the footage of the fire in a high rise in Sydney City about 2 weeks ago? It involved a partial collapse of the main fire building and a building next to it was also gutted, both have since been demolished. I feel so sorry for the families displaced by such large fires, most more than likely struggling to get by
There is a lot I couldn’t give you a answer
Great footage as usual! Did all beings make it out (including pets)? I read sll comments and it wasn't addressed. I love animals and I worry when I see fires. I glad all injures were minor.
Thanks for watching, I don’t have a complete answer to you but I know they went in to get a few aggressive dogs.
👍👍🔥
Thanks
Looks like 44 had a ladderpipe seal fail...
Yes they did was taken OOS
Jeez, my 90 year old grandma could have made the most sandwiches by the time they figured out who was on the roof geez engaged in playing because they couldn't get their act together as to who was on the roof. Poor performance people dying. I know they're worried about their firefighters they should be but if somebody gives an order to evacuate the route because they're putting water out, when you get the hell off the roof
Great work as usual Skyler. How come there are too few 95 footers in that area of NYC? Why wasn't a hose/hoses put on the same roof that you were on earlier? Could've used the SUPER PUMPER on that particular fire maybe? Glad to hear that there were only minor injuries reported last night!!👍
Thanks for watching. So they added 2 95 Footers recently I believe total citywide is 17 or so now. So the reason there is not more is because the turning radius, they have very big rear ends and hard to make turns, and they won’t be able to turn out of a lot of firehouses. There is currently only 1 95 footer Spare and one they just replaced caught fire. So another year or 2 until atleast 4 turn into spares.
I got the Chief on the phone a hand line was put up there. And no super pumper wouldn’t be used
You can feel the heat & smell the tar burning.
Great shots from the rooftop, how do you get up there without getting run off?
Thanks for watching. Not sure what you mean. The building wasn’t evacuated and it’s the exposure
@@SkylerFire I was thinking that the roofs would be locked up
Nice Video- you carryin a thermal camera now?>
Thanks for watching
Great video. Seems like commanders were given poor advice to shut down tower ladders. We’re any commanders on the adjoining roof with you. They would certainly not advised that if so.
Some miscommunication this fire was long ahead of them.
Thanks. I imagine that it must be very frustrating when you are right there and know the wrong decisions are being made. Communication is the key, as you say. Pity that it didn’t work this time. Also you had a great position for a line to be operated early
Was there a mayday at 25:08? Sounded like TL 44 bucket.
Plenty of mayday calls but nothing serious for trapped or anything.
Super footage, man. Any update on source/cause?
Nothing yet.
And right about there at the 3:20 mark, is about when the shit got real...
No water ?
Don’t understand why that tower ladder did not hit the roof sooner.
Didn’t reach…
Looks like they could use a drone for video for command for these bigger buildings
They had a chief in a helicopter above
Aggressive firefighting is a dying art, it seems only the big FD practice this, don't get me wrong , if the conditions are that serious, you don't commit your crews unless there's a life risk, watching these video's FDNY are pretty aggressive................maybe that's down to senior officers who appear to be very experience guys who learnt the trade before going for promotion.
Thanks for watching, they are very aggressive and this Fire was just far enough gone they couldn’t get ahead of it.
Also, do classic buildings like this one have a fireman's standpipe/hose on each floor? This place would have needed a dozen per floor!
This building did not have standpipes
it still amazes me that there isn't any laws passed, building codes, that prohibit all tar products from building roofs.. That tar is the worse thing for fires. heats up, liquefies and burns like an oil rig.. but in today's times its allowed. no safety at all..
The fire is bad enough plus everyone one that lives in the building has water damage
Yes
God forbid the snorkels shoot water on the fire!
FDNY doesn’t have snorkels.
It's sad that FDNY doesn't know how to put out a fire.
Opinion over fact.
All I hear is a lot of yelling, effective, no way
I saw the building fire in the beginning of it from a few blocks away the smoke was everywhere a bunch of people pulled over on the cross bronx service road to film it and take pictures
