100% agree and yes there is value to add this to your channel. You hit the nail on the head skill level 1. This is a really good pick to get my boys into RC plus having a small dirt / asphalt combined track should be a really good experience with the Mini Maxx. My Rustler Ultimate is beast though. The Mini Maxx will be a nice change up especially with the ease of travel and be able to put in a back pack. 🏁🏁🏎️🏁🏁👍
The issue isn't the balance between skill level and power; it's the relationship between cost and power. Naturally, Traxxas markets it as 'Skill Level 1' if it only delivers that amount of power. However, the real problem is its $300 price tag after tax. Customers expected more power for their money or, at the very least, a more reasonable price.
Careful, the Traxxas fan boy in you is coming out! Don't bite the hand that feeds you, I guess. I'll give Traxxas some credit though, the Mini Max looks great and is a decent build. However, it's grossly overpriced, compared to the competition, and Traxxas makes a point of using upgrades as a selling point but fails to mention the truck just isn't designed for those upgrades (and you said as much). I mean $200 in upgrades for a $250 truck! If that's good with you, great, but we all know Traxxas is a large Corp out to make a buck and really doesn't give a shit about its customers.
They pay you well 😅 Get them to change this... it's very misleading to anyone reading the description... *Mini Maxx's differentials are nearly twice the size of standard 1/16 scale differentials for bomb proof durability.. *even the Velineon 3-cell lipo power is no problem for Mini Maxx's ultra-stout driveline..
I thought you said you weren't going to reply to any more of these? 🤣 They don't pay me anything Phil, you know that. That last line is a bit suspect for sure, like I said in the video, I do hope they update the website so they can better educate the consumer. A little common sense goes a long way though, and all those driveline upgrade parts aren't there for the fun of it.
I was thinking about my comment debating with traxxas rules kids 😂 I said Tomley knew that diffs would break and I guess I did mean how can they not , with no skipper or center diff . Ultimately you’re correct traxxas said it would be robust out the box or at the least conveniently left important part out . Center diff recommend with upgrade “ . Imagine all the kids people “ who really on tight budgets . You guys know as well as most adults into this hobby they did more to hurt the hobby grow than they did to get more RC in peoples hands . That’s saying a lot because traxxas does did” R and D some amazing Rcs .
The issue is Matt is Traxxas is not stating it needs those upgrades. Tomly lindley did a video on this. In fact Traxxas says it can be upgraded to the 3s system and handle it. Which is a false statement
@@DrHyde-cq3egTraxxas makes no statement of needing the center diff. We all know its does, but Traxxas makes no explicit statement that it needs to be done. So a newer hobbyist wouldn’t know. In fact their website states it’s good for 3s out of the box. Their promotion event is the only place where a Traxxas rep said “we recommend the center diff”, meaning not required but you should do it. Again we know it’s needed, and not available but newer hobbyist don’t and there is no warning or asterisks of it in the manual or on the website.
Agreed! Rlaarlo is under $200 for their similar sized vehicles. And their ROG1 is $150 for black Friday right now and it’s rated for 50mph+ out of the box. I never owned a rlaarlo but I am considering it as it’s cheap and they do the little extras like laser etched chassis designs for that extra premium feel.
@@robgoffroad way overpriced even at $199. When you have 1/16 bashers like the MJX out there at a ridiculous low price, 3S ready, with center diffs and way way more durable parts at such low prices even the $199 sounds pretty bad. If they had better quality diffs and a stock center diff installed then perhaps $199 would be somehow reasonable
The problem is that Traxxas marketed this car as a premium heavy duty basher with 1/10 scale everything. There are $70 Amazon special cars you can buy right now that take 3S don't have a center differential or slipper clutch and have plenty of power. The problem isn't that people don't understand that adding that power will break it. I was pretty confident it was going to break after tearing it down. The problem is that this thing is priced and marketed as an ultra premium basher, comes out of the box underpowered, and can't handle the power that most of its competition, even vehicles costing hundreds less, can handle. If this was $200 and was marketed as being a entry-level budget machine I don't think anybody would have a problem with it. It's not $200 though and it's not marketed as an entry level budget machine. I really think it's bad for the entire hobby to normalize overpriced cars and if this was from any other brand I get the feeling very few people would find it acceptable.
Traxxas positions themselves as premium, yes. But I’d argue that that definition goes beyond just the vehicles. From their support of local brick & mortar, to parts support, to warranty, to overall customer experience. Suggesting you can buy cheaper cars on amazon is true, but I doubt (and have experienced this first hand) that the end customer experience doesn’t come anywhere close. As for their marketing, I can’t speak to that. I read what’s on the box, and there’s no mention of anything other than 2S, which, it’s quite lively and fun at. Something this small doesn’t need to go any faster than 30mph, but that’s just an opinion. Luckily, we’re all entitled to one, and, the market will inevitably rule! Traxxas should do a better job of educating and directing the customer to the proper upgrade path, but honestly, it doesn’t make financial sense to spend $200+ to make this work on 3S, when you can spend less and get a VXL equipped Rustler, which would be a far better route! Thanks for your comment!
@scalebuildersguild support is nice but I would say Traxxas support is a mixed bag at best. For the things they cover the warranty is great but a 30-day electronics warranty isn't exactly setting the world on fire and I would say Horizon and redcat have comparable support. And it's not just that you can buy cheaper cars on Amazon You can buy cheaper cars literally everywhere. Traxxas has positioned themselves as the most expensive basher brand in the world (excluding boutique brands). If they were also selling the best cars you can buy that would be fine but ultimately this is a cost cut entry level Mini with a very premium price. I've touched every single part of this car now multiple times and nothing about it feels premium. It feels fine but it certainly doesn't feel premium. Like you said though we all have our opinions and mine is just one :-)
Was considering this rig but decided to go with a Mojave Grom BLX instead since it is simply a better value and already comes with those necessary 3s upgrades already included.
Yep, they really got it wrong, they state it has steel diff gears when they are in fact pot metal, they state silicone diff gaskets when they are paper, on the box and website they say it can be upgraded to 3S but dont say it needs better diffs or slipper clutch mod, this is a nice looking model that is sort of okay stock out of box but the cost of going 3S in a reliable fashion is just to much dollar....or pound over here
It will be interesting to see if the diffs hold up to 3S power after the centre diff is installed. People are just assuming that will prevent the broken diffs, but I have my doubts
When I emailed them about ANY upgrades required to run 3s VXL. “Hello, That is a lot of power for the Mini Maxx. We do not offer upgraded differentials to handle the extra power so you have to be careful with the throttle to reduce parts damage. Sincerely, Stefano Traxxas Support”
The issue isn’t that it can’t handle 3s, the issue is that it is claimed to be able to be upgraded to 3s, and it is also claimed that it has a very strong drivetrain, and nowhere is it stated that it needs to be upgraded to handle 3s. It’s really not acceptable at all and I don’t see how people think this is okay. Especially for the price of the thing.
@@scalebuildersguild In a different reply you were wondering why people told you that you are being overly protective and defensive of traxxas. Well condescending replies like these dont help.
You certainly can. There are SEVERAL, if the Chinese cars that don’t use a slipper clutch or a center diff that handle 3S and even 4S without a single issue, pack after pack after pack
I agree with you on the point about putting the VXL system into this truck. But, and it's a big butt, Traxxas has put a pic on the box (I think it's on the box?) with the VXL system installed and says that it is an option. Only in a very few places do they mention anything about a slipper/center diif etc. I saw all this on Tomly's channel. Bit of a cock up in my opinion. Funnily enough I have a Slash that I threw a VXL system into with no other upgrades, and it's been running fine for years, over a decade I think. Traxxax really need to get away from using sintered gears.
@@scalebuildersguild so we can agree on it’s a nice small, entry level, rather expensive basher. Plug and play like all Traxxas. It’s most likely fine stock. It can take 3S electronics, but for that it needs more updates that make the price debatable (if that’s a thing in our hobby). For a better durability review it needs a bit more time. The advertising on the website is “slightly” misleading. Nice video again. I like the scale content more, feels like this is more your thing. The basher reviews feel a bit more forced because of sponsorship. I like that you’re waiting for more driving experience before giving the final verdict. And we need even more upgrade battles with Josh please, thanks! 😉
Same issue the original 6s X-maxx had, bad diffs. I was one of the first in America to get an x-maxx and my other UA-cam channel shows it but I eventually got rid of it, I made all the content I wanted and I got tired of every time I went out to play with it I had to replace a diff.
SBG: this is a level one entry level vehicle for beginners Also SBG: if you want to run 3s you should just know to run a center diff upgrade that Traxxas says isn't necessary. Little disappointed here. As a beginner in the hobby, this is exactly the kind of error I could have easily made.
I don't disagree that Traxxas needs to revise their page to better help educate the upgrade path to new buyers. Which is exactly what I said in the video!
We obviously value your opinion, even on bashers. I don't expect you to go out and flip bashers 30' in the air. Seems like most other channels do that. My opinion is do what interests you and what you like and we will follow like lemmings to the sea!! 😂❤
Tomley did what was said to do on the website so I don't think he did anything wrong and saying it's 3s capable with 200+ of upgrades it's not really 3s capable 🤔 it's like saying a trx4 is 4s capable once you completely rebuild it, oh wait it's already 4s capable because it's "traxxass tough" 😅 I'm not hating just trying to make my point 😎🤙🏼💨
There's nothing on the website other than a list of upgrades. There's also a ton of driveline upgrade options that he chose to not install, because they're not available yet. You know the old saying about the word "assume"? Anything is possible, coupled with the proper upgrades.
@scalebuildersguild I guess we'll see how good the diffs are when you go bash it 😅 don't hold back it's traxxass tough remember 😅 I look forward to the run video 🤙🏼💨
@@scalebuildersguild Even the Velineon 3-cell lipo power is no problem for Mini Maxx's ultra-stout driveline* I mean if that isnt missleading I do not know what is.
So you expect a "skill level 1" customer (a.k.a. noob) to be aware of traxxas' false advertisement? Because that's what it is. They say you can put 3S VXL into the mini maxx without doing any other upgrades. So if someone reads that and then goes ahead, does what the manufacturer suggests is possible and things start falling apart, it has nothing to do with common sense and everything with false advertisement (a.k.a. lying). Especially with a brand aiming at the newbe market as much as traxxas is. Sorry, but I have to completely disagree on that one. Btw, I'm running a 2200kV 1/8th scale BL system on 4s in my Stampede 4x4. And while that has some upgrades to it, obviously, the diff gears are stock and holding up just fine, while not being "oversized for it's scale". Shows it's not even an impossible thing to ask for, since they themselves used to be able to do better...
Unfortunate to see what I thought was an independent channel put so much effort into defending misleading information from a brand name. I don't think it's at all surprising for customers to take the Traxxas website at their word and use the 3S system. Traxxas literally states it's ready for their own 3S system with zero room for interpretation. We're putting that on the consumer? And you don't think it's important to clarify the pricing is in-store only? I think some of y'all content creators are getting a little out of touch. Paid or not, you give the appearance of being an employee in this video and comment section. Does not come across as consumer friendly in the slightest. You are coming across as defensive and kinda hostile towards criticism. What does Traxxas have over y'all? I've enjoyed a lot of your footage and thank you for that. Take care and stay safe, happy holidays!
Not defensive, and definitely not hostile! Not sure where you got that from at all. If you watched the whole video, I was also critical of how Traxxas worded things, and hope that they update the site. There's no denying it needs some help there. Regardless, this little guy is a blast on 2S, as it was intended. Buying all the upgrades puts you square into Rustler VXL territory, and if you want to bash hard in a small package, that's where my money would be spent. Early reviewers made assumptions. I'm trying to correct that. Sorry if my stance on the matter doesn't align with yours, luckily we're all entitled to an opinion. Thanks for watching!
@@scalebuildersguild As if I didn’t already have respect, the way you handled the “Sugga” situation was incredible. I know I woulda been pissed with me and you handled it like a champ! I’ve never seen u lose ur cool, but yet witnessed several situations where u should have. Only wish I could handle myself in this manner! Lol
@@scalebuildersguildI did watch to the end, but my point not just the video, but your replies. I'm sure you're aware that it's not our difference in opinion that caused me to comment, but how I perceived you to be reacting to consumer feedback. Expected feedback, no less, as you said yourself you'd get "flamed" for it. I think you kinda solidified it here by attempting to suggest it was my difference in opinion of a toy car that led me to leave a comment, rather than glazing a brand. Pretty silly. Traxxas shouldn't lie about their products on their website, and I think it's a little distasteful to see someone who has monetized the hobby sweep that under the rug. Just my differing opinion. Take care.
@@BeardRubEnjoyerwhat consumer feedback am I replying to? I’m really curious where you get this negative opinion of me. I mention it pretty strongly that Traxxas needs to revise how they educate the consumer on the upgrade path, that’s hardly sweeping it under the rug.
@ I am, just my opinion on the brand as a whole. I think you do a great job representing all the brands though, nothing negative against your channel or anything 👍
🙄 It was plain as day to me that if they’re offering a center diff that it would probably also be needed when upgrading to a VXL system. Didn’t need Traxxas to tell me that.
@@scalebuildersguildthat’s irrelevant. On the details page right above the photo gallery there’s a slideshow, under 32-Pitch Gears it says, “Stripped gears mean a trip to the workbench, but Mini Maxx eliminates this problem with huge 32-pitch gears. Normally found in much larger 4X4 vehicles, 32-pitch gears deliver total reliability no matter how much power you pour on. Even Velineon 3-cell LiPo power is no problem for Mini Maxx’s ultra-stout driveline.” That looks exactly like ready for 3s to me.
@@michaeljnewton I don’t disagree that the wording is misleading, if you watched the video, I suggested strongly that they should change that to better educate and inform.
@@scalebuildersguild I did catch that but I wouldn’t say misleading, they say very directly that it’s 3s capable and it’s not plain as day that the center diff would be required. Regardless of tire size and weight, which shouldn’t be a problem for the 1/10 scale components, the same people looking at this vehicle are new to the hobby, getting it as gift for a child, or probably have the Grom line. Which stayed direct drive with small scale components after being offered as 3s and you don’t see them shredding drivetrain even though they’re 50+ mph out of the box.
@@michaeljnewton Beginner people don't need it to be 3s capable lmao. I get the arguments and traxxas is known to be misleading, but the "beginner driver" is such an overplayed, terrible argument
Just got mines in black today and it is disappointing, something simple as charging cable and AA batteries for the remote would have been nice. Seems like Traxxas is running out of ideas.
Fair enough. Lot of people are missing what is. Keeping one stock and modifying the second. Vxl-3s, center diff, gears, driveshaft. And figure out how to loose the torsen diff.
@@scalebuildersguild "It's the smallest one they offer" you know that traxxas is directly stating that these "bombproof" diffs are 1/10 scale level right?
Matt, while I cannot stand most everything Trashaxx, I enjoyed the video, you were spot on saying what needed said about the upgrades... keep on doing what you do and ignore the noise
I agree that additional parts would be needed if upgrading to the 3S. However, there is no indication on the box that any additional parts are needed to use it with 3S. Therefore, it should preform without issues on 2 or 3S. As mentioned in the vid, this is being sold as a "level 1" skill. Anybody buying this as there first RC would also not know of such upgrades were needed. Again, it's not mentioned on the box. As these are already priced way of the value, the extra parts should come with the unit or be clearly indicated it's strictly 2S as it's aimed at new comers to the hobby. Otherwise, I like it! and will likely pick one up. I already bought the ARRMA GROM (Using on 3S) and it's great and super fast.
I don't think a slipper or center diff will save those gears. There are still shock loads with both. That's what causes the power transfer. They'll still be just as fragile.
I spent so much time and money trying to turn my Slash 4x4 into a crawler, lol. TRX4 solved my problem. I put the slash back to its short course config, and still have it, still run it, and it’s nearly as fast as my WideMaxx. I do love the durability and longevity of Traxxas, but Vanquish has stolen my heart now. VRD Carbon for comp, H10 Optic for trail and “Brawling” (bashing/crawling). Thanks for all your time and entertaining effort! Love your channel and I’m looking forward to snow wheeling. I’m from New England originally (Massachusetts refugee living in Florida now) and I do miss playing in snow.
Josh will be happy to hear that Vanquish has stolen your heart! Still no snow up here in Toronto, it still feels like Fall, but I'll be happy if we get a little bit to get out there and do some driving! Thanks for watching!
The issue isn't the balance between skill level and power; it's the relationship between cost and power. Naturally, Traxxas markets it as 'Skill Level 1' if it only delivers that amount of power. However, the real problem is its $300 price tag after tax. Customers expected more power for their money or, at the very least, a more reasonable price.
ill be honest, the only thing it needs is the same compound tires in the rear as the front. also a bit faster of a servo. this thing is intended as a basher, and a good sized one at that. them rear tires are gonna wear a bit faster in the rear. on top of all that, they might as well stop selling the 2wd line and capitalize on this size/price range.
1/16 is a nice size for these monster trucks... the big ones REALLY hurt... 1/8 is an ankle breaker... you just need it to tear up the yard... can it get through 4-6" tall grass ? fun in any playground ? Bingo, Bango, Zoom.....
Free truck free upgrades for the truck so yea makes sense to that he said all that about the truck. When someone gets the truck or upgrades for free it’s hard for me to hear them out.
And lastly other RCS that have the price can take 3s power. You lost a lot of respect with this one bud. I always thought the point of you creators was to grow your channel but you just made a video to shrink yours😂 comment section doesn't lie
Blurred lines... there's s lot of money to be made there. 😅 Sadly Traxxas has a history and people get defensive (and stupid, sometimes). Being the "premium" brand Traxxas advertises themselves being, I do believe they should be clearer about some things and, in this Mini Max thing, some are just wrong (dif gaskets...). There are some good things about their products, support, etc, but their marketing strategies and business philosophy are questionable. Just my opinion. :)
Because most business is new 🆕 customers. Upper middle class and they’re making it easy for anyone to have fun with minimal cost if any once initial purchase. I’m sure when I break my lhs chops going say we don’t have worry about the diffs like we did with groms when they were released , bashing like Tomley did is next level , like I or duperbash does with Arrmas , if think about it xxmaxx does same thing if you upgraded to get comparable intensity. It’s only bomb proof in stock form , and still easier to use than race machines , and that’s what Losis Arrmas really are . Now arrma going after different market but still know there bread butter is there Rcs have that intensity out of the box .
I have been spending some time perusing the SBC forums. The quality, the involvement the amazing love of the Hobby… does give a slight bitter taste when it comes to the Big Corp Reviews that are so scripted and sanitary… Having said that, your channel is a gateway for all things RC and has gotten bigger than the forum that it derived from. So everything has a place. As long as you don’t totally sell out and only tell us what you have been instructed, without deviation, to get that filthy lucre, I think you and this channel will be just fine.
The problem is even stock 2s and decent drivers are breaking the planetary gears and even the oem pinion. I’m a huge Traxxas proponent but this is not living up to the marketing they put out to build the hype and increase sales. Sure mistakes can happen, let’s see how they respond and if they make it right. As a “skill level 1” that means inexperienced drivers and they land on power, power out of rearward slide and all sorts of driving mistakes that are hard on the drive train. I have already seen the diffs break completely stock by younger (skill level 1) drivers. A ton will be broken within a day or week of getting them for Christmas. That’s never good and will hurt the brands reputation and sales. Not what I expect from Traxxas :(
@@scalebuildersguild probably but for the insane money it should come standard...heck the whole driveline should be metal, the axles, the center driveshaft, center diff all that. The brusheless groms comes wi5 metal shocks, metal drivetrain, the only thing it doesnt have is a clutch or a differential in the middle. Issue with traxxas is they do not give value for money on their rcs. Why does everything has to come with the junky ultra shocks for example? When the competition includes metal ones for less money compared to the traxxas equivalent?
Matt you have a wealth of knowledge in the hobby so your feedback on bashers to me is appreciated. Besides your as honest as they come in your reviews.
I think the new Bigfoot with the new 4x4 stampede chassis looks like a lot of fun for beginners and people who enjoy the Bigfoot monster truck. Its $349.
I think it is good for you to do reviews like this. It's good for the hobby to have people like you to give honest reviews of these cars. Besides, there's more to RC life than crawlers. There's a place for all of it. Thanks for your review.
"There are ither upgrades that are required kr to make that system work, Im not surprised anyone doing the upgrade is breaking things." Except Traxxas claims that can handle the power without these upgrades so why do you keep being their mouthpiece?
Funny thing is that this is pure speculation. Traxxas does not state this anywhere... Personally i am not so sure that these diffs will hold even if the center diff is installed.
Interesting how the mini Revo didn’t have these issues. It was 299 ten years ago and didn’t have 1/10 scale anything, center diff, just a much better car.
You are high. On 3s it strips both front and rear diffs within 3 to 4 packs max if you run it hard on 3s. I bought it when it came out. Still have it. Both diffs blown. Got tired of replacing them. Its also a major job to replace them. You have to damn near take the entire car apart. If they would have bullet proof diffs in that car it would be one of the most fun rc car you can own. Backflips for days. Run up walls and flip off the wall etc. Crazy fun when it works but that is rare sadly.
The mini Revo has a host of problems, the diff just being one of them. I think its just so far removed from the scene these days, that most people forget. If the mini maxx is easier to work on and can handle some grass, I'm still in. I've grown past my "needs all the power" days.
Well I must have gotten the diamond in the rough, after a year the rear diff did go but I’ve run it hard and had no other issues. But that is also a factor with traxxas, it’s hit or miss with them. I’ve had servos die after one run, I’ve had servos last for years. I live in Alaska so winter is like 9 months out of the year and at 0 degrees my traxxas rigs love it! My Arrma not so much. Alaska tests the durability of everything lol. I can say this, there is a reason you don’t see quality control stamps or stickers.
Finally someone who understands that upgrades are necessary on this truck in order to run vxl or any other 3s system. I understand where people were coming from with their opinions on it but traxxas stated in the initial announcement that a center diff is required to properly run the vxl system in it. Great video, can't wait to see the upgrades you add to it.
@WasNiksIsNiksWordtNiks yeah that is true and a fair point. However when the slipper clutch and center diff are available. They should eliminate the rear diff issue. Or at least make it less common
The marketing reads as if it is already 3S ready. Seems deceptive. Especially being that it is a level 1 therefore aiming at beginners. Kind of like the speed ratings on the box with the asterisk.
It is, it just requires a lot more upgrades than is made clear. They need to revise the wording, but as soon as I saw the diff, I knew that would be required as well. 🤷🏻♂️
@@scalebuildersguild right on. I just get aggravated with them because as you said it needs reworded. You knew it would require more and I would also but a beginner wouldn't know. Anyway, Hey, thanks for all your content. You have some truly amazing builds. You're a very talented guy.
To me its a matter of them asking for money to upgrade this to handle the 3s power they know we would put in it. If they are positioning themselves as premium, then put premium in it. If they just put the center diff in it with the 2s system, even if they charged a few more dollars, they would get less negative feedback. They know we are going to run 3s. We did it with the 16th scale erevo and summit. It really just feels like a slap in the face. And with the new Jato being priced as it is, it really starts to feel like they are taking advantage of us on all their "new" products. Just one mans opinion. Also yes, bash away.😂
Some of us definitely still read books. One of the things that makes life good. And sure, do non-scale, non-crawler stuff whenever it strikes your fancy. Assuming your fancy gets struck.
When its all said and done with all the required upgrades and power system, the 1/10 Maxx is the better deal. Just hard to squeeze it in your backpack as easily as the mini.
I think you should use these to do a build off with a fella who shall not be named for not shipping trucks. Add a Hard body, interior, etc. Monster Truck? Hmmm
My association with Traxxas ended with the E-MAXX so not really interested as I already have the Mini Erevo. But would love to see all three new MAXXs together for a size comparison though
RC Industry: During COVID, we hooked a ton of people into buying RC's. Now, let's price gauge them with giant RC's costing $1-2K. It will be awesome. China: Let's build decent smaller cars for $200. RC Industry: Hmmm... folks are buying decent Chinese cars for $200 - $hit. Let's build smaller cars with garbage parts and charge $400. It will be awesome.... I'm f'n done.
If you watch the Traxxas demo in the video "THE CATS OUT OF THE BAG! THE NEW TRAXXAS MINI MAXX!" at 4m 54s Traxxas states it has a slipper clutch & because every thing is 10th scale "you can upgrade your customers by dropping in a VXL system. I guess they changed their minds after release when they saw so many diffs breaking up. Also here in the UK they are priced at $279.99 the equivalent to $355, not such a great buy compared to others 3s capable out of the box..
Sound similar to people blowing the gears on the h10 optic they upgrade the motor and just expect it to hold up or complain that it didn’t come with machined gears electric motors are allready really torquey so when you go to higher powered brushless you can expect to start breaking stock parts this is how rc has always been if you upgrade and rtr things will start breaking
Poor Boys RC already has bashing it at a skate park, and the only damage is the front bumper getting cracked. That was after running four battery packs through it.
So I’ve seen/heard that the 4x4 diffs (Rustler, Slash, Hoss and others) fit inside the mini Maxx. As for reviewing rigs you should review the vehicles that interest you even if there isn’t much hype around it. Love your videos and perspective.
I'm 90% a basher and still love this channel and the lives. A little basher content is always awesome. There's plenty of smaller rigs to have fun with.
I like basher content, so I’m totally good with seeing it on the channel. But I disagree with the assumption that people should know other upgrades are needed to the driveline for 3S. The Mini Maxx is claimed to be a skill level 1 vehicle, which means it’s for beginners. I don’t think you can safely assume a beginner will know what all is needed to upgrade. I think Traxxas has been misleading with this truck’s capabilities.
I'm not saying people should know, I'm saying people didn't know, and Traxxas needs to be clearer in their website in order to better educate customers.
I dig your take on RC toys in general. When trying to gather real info about products it’s great to find different options and driving styles. I bash what I think is more like you than a real basher… so I’m not in the realm to do all hop up on a value truck that works. Good to hear it that way and then I can find out myself
Matt the spare parts bag is garbage it doesn't come with extra gears.... lmfao.you don't need to land on power for them to shatter, just jump it a few times to watch them disintegrate..
Are bashers your main gig, are they what brings your core audience? Nope. With that, RCs like this Mini Maxx are a nice change of stride for your channel, and it is nice to see. Thanks for sharing!!!
I detect no lies here. The one thing that annoys me is that Traxxas's advertising for this RC does not match what you get. It's a great vehicle on 2s, but I wouldn't call it bomb proof. It comes with the bigger motor than you typically get at that scale. I don't understand why everyone is obsessed with putting the VXL system in it.
Obviously, it's your channels name, but is the "scale builders guild" a real thing? Because that's the part that draws me to this hobby. I tried the smaller static model kits, but with those, you don't get to use tools...
Agreed! Nicely said!
@ Thanks SBG. I appreciate that. Happy Thanksgiving. 🦃
Let’s be honest we’ve put more into our Scx24’s, far more than $200 lol.
Scx24- 130
SCX24 after upgrades- 600
They pay you well 😅
Get them to change this... it's very misleading to anyone reading the description...
*Mini Maxx's differentials are nearly twice the size of standard 1/16 scale differentials for bomb proof durability..
*even the Velineon 3-cell lipo power is no problem for Mini Maxx's ultra-stout driveline..
Yes we saw these blow out easy
I thought you said you weren't going to reply to any more of these? 🤣 They don't pay me anything Phil, you know that. That last line is a bit suspect for sure, like I said in the video, I do hope they update the website so they can better educate the consumer. A little common sense goes a long way though, and all those driveline upgrade parts aren't there for the fun of it.
😇
@@TomleyRC. I wonder how they are going to sale “a EASY UPGRADE TO S CENTER DIFF”.
Lol. As you know. There’s noooo chance for 3s. lol
They also state that their diffs are "bomb proof" lmao and their shocks really suck.
They also say it needs a center diff when upgraded. And aluminum center drive line. At which point you would have a lot of money into it.
@@DrHyde-cq3eg. BINGO !
Because that is the most important part !
Can’t believe it’s 300$
And don’t have a center diff 🤦♂️🤦♂️😂😂
@@DrHyde-cq3egTraxxas makes no statement of needing the center diff. We all know its does, but Traxxas makes no explicit statement that it needs to be done. So a newer hobbyist wouldn’t know. In fact their website states it’s good for 3s out of the box. Their promotion event is the only place where a Traxxas rep said “we recommend the center diff”, meaning not required but you should do it. Again we know it’s needed, and not available but newer hobbyist don’t and there is no warning or asterisks of it in the manual or on the website.
Doesn't take a genius to figure out that crappy direct drive line system they installed on it from the factory is not going to handle 3s power.
IMO this thing is way overpriced for what you get. This should be a $199 car. And then offer the 3S version for $299.
Yeah Traxxas has always been way overpriced, just picked up 2 of the new BLX Armma Groms at $189 and $199 and have been super impressed for the price.
This... ☝
By the way, you do a great job of tearing down and explaining mechanical things to your viewers! Great channel!
@@scalebuildersguild thanks man I really appreciate it!
Was considering this rig but decided to go with a Mojave Grom BLX instead since it is simply a better value and already comes with those necessary 3s upgrades already included.
Gordon is even a better option at this point.
They won’t
And I'm interested to see how long the diffs will hold up with the stock motor/esc. I assume somthing like 5 to 10 packs😅
@@1996transam highly doubt it. It’s just an excuse traxxas fanboys use to justify this nonsense
When I emailed them about ANY upgrades required to run 3s VXL.
“Hello,
That is a lot of power for the Mini Maxx. We do not offer upgraded differentials to handle the extra power so you have to be careful with the throttle to reduce parts damage.
Sincerely,

Traxxas Support”
Sounds to me like support isn't up to speed on new product.
Crazy as hell!
Agree that the wording could be a lot better!

That’s just typical Traxxas man.
Nothing on the box, I've checked!
@@scalebuildersguild buggered if I know then, manual maybe?

And there's a ton of other upgrades listed there too, that seem like they'd be required.
SBG: this is a level one entry level vehicle for beginners
Also SBG: if you want to run 3s you should just know to run a center diff upgrade that Traxxas says isn't necessary.

He lost a lot of respect with this video.

I own a X Maxx I still can't brake it I've hit trees just sending it and it still runs has a klick in the front dif but only turning left
Matt is never hostile about anything bro, one of the most laid back gents around. And if that’s his opinion so be it. Never known to be biased either.

It’s a rip off for what you get. Should have aluminum shocks, steel drive shafts, metal geared servo and maybe some fuckin roof skids……
I don't think a slipper or center diff will save those gears. There are still shock loads with both. That's what causes the power transfer. They'll still be just as fragile.

Its also a major job to replace them. You have to damn near take the entire car apart. If they would have bullet proof diffs in that car it would be one of the most fun rc car you can own. Backflips for days. Run up walls and flip off the wall etc. Crazy fun when it works but that is rare sadly.
Not true. 1/16 revo had diff problems for years.
You know Kevin did a video on his and he loved it! 😂
Thank you!
Problem is… There are no Upgrade parts for what’s breaking!
I’ll stick to my mini summit! Great video
Fair enough! Thanks for watching!
When its all said and done with all the required upgrades and power system, the 1/10 Maxx is the better deal. Just hard to squeeze it in your backpack as easily as the mini.
Omni Terminator is the one to go in this prize range. The carbon version is still cheaper than the Mini Maxx…
I think you should use these to do a build off with a fella who shall not be named for not shipping trucks. Add a Hard body, interior, etc. Monster Truck? Hmmm
Agreed! I was thinking the same thing - K10 body-set and we'd have a 30mph Tamiya Blackfoot!
(Yes I know the Blackfoot was a Ford, but the principle would be the same...)
Just letting everyone know that to get to 3s with out blowing the gears it’s going to be 500$. Let that sink it abit for 1/14th scale…
Traxxas blew a huge chance to make this little truck one of their biggest sellers ever!!
Who knows, still might be even with it's short coming.
yes, because your running videos are epic.
If I bought one I’d probably just gear it up some to achieve more speed if it was needed/wanted.
you should see Tomley RC video on this.
Did he take the video down?
@ don’t think so, 2 videos in main and he has a 2nd channel too that has 1 video about it. but i watched all 3 videos last night.
@ed0c oh I see your right it's on other channel thanks.
I think people are expecting the 10 scale diffs to handle 10 scale power. How dare they.
I appreciate your input on the upgrade path. 👌
If you’re so confident it will last stock with 2s, go put 4 packs through it the way most users are going to use it.
Challenge accepted.
Appreciate the support!
Yes. Good job. Like reviews on all kinds
Honestly, an RTR basher isn't of much interest to me. Yet here I am watching right? Thats because you're just a great content crerator.
Thank you so much!
I don’t have any fast cars but I always watch your reviews of them. :)
I'm 90% a basher and still love this channel and the lives. A little basher content is always awesome. There's plenty of smaller rigs to have fun with.
I appreciate that!
@ gotcha. I totally agree.
I dig your take on RC toys in general. When trying to gather real info about products it’s great to find different options and driving styles. I bash what I think is more like you than a real basher… so I’m not in the realm to do all hop up on a value truck that works. Good to hear it that way and then I can find out myself
Thank you so much! Glad to offer a different perspective!
That plaque is insanely good lookin' back off in the distance...😎
Thank you!
More plastic to explode... unfortunately your money , just glad it's not my $$$$.
Yes! Review any and every rc car out there! 😂 Thank you for all the content!
Thanks man!
Thanks for your support! It's nice to explore other aspects of the hobby!
As for reviewing Bashers, we'll tune in for all your RC stuff,,, so Yes!!👊👽
Thanks for the support!
$270 but needs a better driveline out of the box. Better diffs a slipper and an aluminum center shaft.
Did Traxxas tell you you need to upgrade everything ??
No, on 2S, as it comes out of the box, no upgrades are needed. Enjoy it!
Traxxas themselves say in their advert that it's 3S VXL ready.!
Obviously, it's your channels name, but is the "scale builders guild" a real thing? Because that's the part that draws me to this hobby. I tried the smaller static model kits, but with those, you don't get to use tools...
Yes I say this is an RC channel so run the RC on it .😊
You see this as I do. Thanks for the info.
Thank you!
Just wait for the mini maxx pro- mini maxx ultimate and mini x maxx extreme.
