This seems to be a very ONR-like rinseless. I've been using ONR since 2018, and this is exactly how it acts. The true abrasive dirt is getting released, but pure polymer rinseless washes like this you get that oily road film layer which seems to bind to the sponge. If it is otherwise acting just like ONR, the sponge is completely safe with that staining. I've never scratched or marred a vehicle with a stained sponge. Back in the ONR only days, my Big Red Sponge would be nearly gray/black until I hit it with some Power Clean once every few months.
Now that hybrid polymer/surfactant rinseless washes are all the rage (and they are great) we are getting a little misled and spoiled. If you're using a sponge, don't sweat it regardless of what rinseless you're using. The dirt that can damage the paint is encapsulated and getting released back into the bucket, and the big particles that can scratch are going to the bottom of the bucket. Staining is of zero concern with sponge. Just clean it with some APC once in awhile.
Now when it comes to microfiber, I only care about wash media cleaning when I'm doing interiors and cleaning out my towel in a bucket of rinseless (whether I'm using another interior cleaner or not). If I'm using microfiber on paint, I'm not taking a dirty towel back to the surface. Microfiber grabs onto and holds large/abrasive dirt particles. I don't care what rinseless I'm using, I'm not taking a used towel back to the paint.
    Just my 2 cents. 🙂

I just washed my wife’s Q7 with this yesterday. Completely different experience. I had no issues at all with dirt release. Used a Big Red Sponge, dunked and brushed against my Autofiber mitt slide - no dirt residue. To me, dunking a sponge and still seeing dirt is not the measure of a rinseless wash. I feel like your results would benefit from better technique. The slickness and cleaning might be the best I’ve encountered. I like Griot’s, but if their product sucked, I would have no hesitation calling it out. This does not. I have Rrw, Absolute, Oberk’s, and McKee’s. Need to experiment with it more, but this may be my new favorite rinseless.

Thanks for weighing in that's why the thumbnail says "you be the judge." As for my technique...either using a grit guard or not using a grit guard I assume you're referring to. If I don't have to use a grit guard with a sponge I'd rather not as it degrades the sponges faster. I prefer a rinseless that releases dirt without having to use a grit guard which leads to better longevity for my sponges. Before telling someone their technique is wrong or incorrect I'd recommend seeking to understand first. There are multiple ways to do things. Thanks for watching.

I do use a grit guard and use it when I dunk my sponge, but all my current rinseless return a clean sponge unless it's grease. I cleaned salt and road grime covered cars (after rinsing) with Phoenix EOD v3 and Nemesis and it released every bit of dirt from the sponge... @@FineDetailingAZ the one dunk absolutely shows the cleaning ability of a chemical but you did use a grit guard in the hero bucket. there wasn’t even a grit guard in the gree-oats side, so would a quick agitation from a GG knock off all the dirt?
and i was just thinking about this, let me ask you for your thoughts. maybe it’s just semantics but i believe all rinse-less chems grab dirt of the sponges, but i view dirt as grit. what’s left on the sponge one dunk or not, i think is grime, the oily funky residues collected as we drive. of course we don’t want to rub it back onto panels while we clean hence an agitation is a safer practice. but i hear “dirt” and i think of scratching when what’s left on a sponge is just residue or grime, of course we want that off too, but is the one dunk really a fair way to help people determine if a rinse-less is worth buying?

    • @FineDetailingAZ
      @FineDetailingAZ  День тому +1

@ to be fair I did 2 dunks the first time hahaha. But I hear you and I think about the minutiae of this stuff too. I tend to agree with you on the grit vs grime part but then I think about how tiny grit could be. Could sand and water form what looks like grime or road film?
Maybe it’s all in our heads and doesn’t matter but something inside me tells me when I dunk a dirty media in the wash bucket and it returns clean from grime or grit that at least makes it appear safe. When something is left even if it’s grime that means I risk reintroducing to my paint if it’s oil or some other substance. Love chatting about this crap.

Thank you for reviewing Griots rinseless. I really hoped this rinseless would perform as most of the others in the market and I do think it is important for the rinseless to release the dirt. Media needs to be clean when it touches the paint and I’m not one to use a grit guard with a rinseless sponge. As I understand the basics, polymers provide lubrication and encapsulation where surfactants are not very lubricious but keeps wash media clean and pull dirt off car. I posted a question on their winter washing video introducing their rinseless asking why they went polymer instead of a hybrid formulation, never got a response. I want to love their products and am a Griots fanboy (been using their products since the mid 90’s) but as newer companies come out with newer products that appear to have re-thought how chemicals work and and processes that are more efficient, I find myself slowly migrating from Griots.

For sure, going to try it next wash! I basically got this for the pollen months up in the North East. The pollen is brutal up here. The only other polymer based Rinseless is P&S Absolute, which is extremely effective on pollen! The polymers encapsulate and drag it all down and doesn’t leave all those tiny green specs left like all the other Rinseless washes do for some reason. But that’s on a clean car that you washe a day earlier. In my humble opinion I find that you need the surfactants to break down the road film to clean the paint as well as the Wash media in which they do very well! Imagine a car wash soap with no surfactants in it, same principle. Hopefully Griots comes out with a surfactant / polymer or in other words hybrid that can compete with what’s on the market today , but for now their only competitor is Abolute since they are both strictly polymer based! Super slick is overrated with rinseless. it just needs to be slick enough. I don't agree always with the status quo on some of these products, too much hype involved. i do know what works well though. There are catch phrases used in a positive light, that are misused, ie..."nothing left behind". True "nothing left behind", will be a one pass dry. If you aren't getting that, use something else. Any exterior paint product should alway revolve around the least contact to the finish. Chasing a dry off is adverse...same goes for quick detailers.
Rant over, i'm salty this morning...

you inadvertently scrubbed the yellow sponge in the hero side, you didn’t just dunk and squeeze. i honestly believe you didn’t do it on purpose. and the one dunk point for the most part is moot. it’s just a test to see if one dunk will clean the wash media.
for a truly scratch free wash, your wash media should be used in conjunction with a wash board purely on the common sense side. if no wash board is available some kind of agitation by swishing and squeezing should be done.
one dunking a sponge, mitt or towel shouldn’t not be portrayed as the correct way to wash a vehicle… mind you, i’m not at all saying that’s what you or anyone else is actually saying.
if i had to guess gree-oats is a perfectly good product to use for safe washing, one dunk test be damned 😜🐿️💨

Totally didn't realize I used the grit guard when it went back in the hero side. I do think the media coming out clean counts for something grit guard or not. That said we can't always see all contamination so that's not fool proof either. I do think the 1 or 2 dunk is nice to see how a product encapsulates and releases dirt from the media though, I think it does indicate some cleaning ability.

Rinseless is not designed to release dirt from media. Im not exactly sure why this is such an issue amongst internet detailers. Rinseless is designed to rinse less, pull away dirt with ease, and safe washing. Media's are designed to HOLD dirt. No matter what someone is cleaningnthats dirty, the media will continue to pick up dirt. Or why would we wash them? Sponges are the worst media to use to wash anyway and they hold the gunk and are not good for more than a handful of washes, a fun fact that many dont know. And if you want to use one media for the whole car then foaming is your best method although more than one should always be used especially if "scratching" is the fear. Griots Rinseless is a great product right along with less fancy labels. The popularity contests are pretty worn out in products imo. Finally, UA-cam is not for training as you called it, for sure. I learned that fast. Its just a guide, then you sort it out. Not all the internet tells us is gospel. Have a great weekend.
