Man this album changed my life for the better. I remember listening to Intuition in loop when it came out as a single. And being so happy that the whole album was just as awesome when it came out. And here I am jamming to it and having a great time 10 years later! Time flies but great music is forever. Thank you very much!
For real. One of those albums that makes you fall in love with music again if you're getting burnt out on it. Was in uni for music and was sort of at that point when I found it.
Preach. My favorite record of all time, IMO the greatest record of all time. Listened to it on repeat when I ran my first ultramarathon. It was a spiritual experience.
I love that people are still listening to the Contortionist! Still appreciating the skill that goes in to playing this stuff; it's so technical yet groovy at the same time - a true paradox. This album is a special one though - it has a certain "sound" to it that I can't really find with other artists these days. It may be the basslines/ the polyrhythms/ the way it makes me feel when I listen to it - but what sells me every time is seeing people from various parts of the world come together because they all have ears - and to put it bluntly - enjoy what they hear. 10/10
The WHOLE albulm was put together with absolute thought and precision, each song leads to the next. Im so grateful to have found your content and this band.
I know exoplanet is about space travel and all, but this album musically is alien to me. I cannot comprehend how someone can create this arrangement. This album feels like the drums were written first and then everything else was added. Beyond incredible!!
Yeah, alright I'm not a bass player but I've never seen anyone play with "Bass Stank face" but at the same time servicing such incredible melody in his parts. How he manages to fill so much open space but not over crowd what's being played. I found this band from a former band member and friend who told me he thought he found "The sound you've been looking for". Since I was in middle school (Before ever picking up an instrument in the early 2000's) I would wake up every morning with this sound in my head that wouldn't go away and I knew I would try to form a band someday to try and get that sound out. I came close a lot of times but the other members never came together, but this is it. This is what it would have sounded like and it gives me chills like you wouldn't believe every time I hear it, and that's just.. Yeah.. Incredible. I hope you guys continue with this band and for god sakes don't split up. This stuff is going to become music that students study in 80 years and I'll hold on that bet. These albums are classics in the making. Much Love. -Neptune
I was super bummed with COVID. We were supposed to see them with Haken and Devin Townsend...Haken and Contortionist are probably my two favorite bands and Devy is a genius!
Oh man thank you so much for doing a playthrough for us! I love your playing so much, so many tasty fills, everything fits so nicely, it's not lacking anything and it's not too much. Love your work dude you're amazing ❤
You made me pick up a bass after being a guitar guy for so long, thanks for the upload! Greatly enjoyed. Hope to see you guys back on tour in Canada again :)
I love the wholesome stream chatting with band family members lol. You all seem like super swell guys and I hope to see you out on the road again someday soon. Would love to chat and pick your brains for a bit if time allowed too. Keep up the great work, looking forward to what you guys have in store for the future. Peace!
Can anyone explain all the quick/often tone knob work during Language 1 & 2? Seems like more than just general tone adjustments, like it’s specific to the riffs.
What’s up man... new subscriber... this is probably gonna be a long mag lol I only recently stumbled upon The Contortionist since I tend to fall down UA-cam rabbit holes often but I find a lot of good bands that way so I ain’t mad about it lol great playing first if all. I am a lifelong bass player as well. I started playing guitar when I was 8 but always wanted to play drums and one day I was compelled to buy a shitty $200 bass and it just felt like home, since I always wanted to be rhythm section and could physically play a guitar already so i took to it immediately. I first started playing live when I was 16, in a thrash band called mortician down here in Miami, fl. Always been a metal head but I’ve played in Afro Cuban funk bands, rock, etc, most recently the metal core band, they might be zombies, who recently got signed to Combat Records, 6 months after I left them. Go figure lol how do you like those Tobias basses? I like how there isn’t much taper to them. The first fret and 24th aren’t much different. I play 89-91 Warwick streamers pretty much. Rhere was no stage 1 and 2 at that point. That’s pretty specific but I’ve played later year models after the company went worldwide but there is just something missing lol it definitely makes it difficult to acquire “new” basses but I have a 4, 5, and 6 string of them so all I’m missing is a fretless. Those original streamers are what would later be called the stage 1, since they have the broader neck which is what I prefer. The other main question I have for you is when you find yourself having to play fast 16th notes, as a finger style player (I am exclusively as well), sometimes it’s just too fast for the right hand... so do you use and up and down stroke with one finger in those cases, or do you do a thumb/index version? I see you use your thumb a lot so I thought maybe that’s what you do. I’m also a little different in that I’m proficient with my ring finger as well. I can use all 3 fingers pretty independently and that comes in handy, but when it’s REALLY fast 16th notes, for obvious reasons it can get a little tough to play with consistent volume across all 3 fingers. It works great for bands like Iron Maiden of course with all the triplets, and ironically Steve Harris uses only 2 fingers for the most part from what I understand. I’ve met him but didn’t get the chance to ask him lol anyway, that’s about it for now. Loved watching this play through. Come on rockin out Dameon

That polymeter thing with the muted note on 29:42 is pretty insane
