When I was a child my father, my brother and I went to Disneyland in Paris over an extended weekend. It was nice and all, but I wasn't the least bit disappointed when we sold our tickets for the last day and instead went sightseeing through Paris.
The burgers in a restaurant of the extended park around Disneyland were great, though.

We go to Phantasialand every year or so, and what nobody has mentioned yet (or I just have not seen it) is the music. While you're waiting in line, each attraction has its unique music style that always manages to get stuck in my head for days.

The design and especially all the details in Phantasialand are absolutely incredible. It's not only the rides which are great, everywhere you look there are sweet, cool or creepy details and scenes, depending to the "land" you're walking through. I enjoy these even more than the rides. Unfortunately it's often very very overcrowded, even in winter, when they have specials with lots of athmospheric lights, hot chocolate and Glühwein.

The interesting thing about Phantasialand is that this park cannot "grow". If a new big attraction is to be built, an old one has to give way. The park has no way of getting bigger. So everything is densely built up. (Unless you overbuild the parking lots :) )

and they cant even do that. the only parking lot that is owned by them is the small one from old Berlin. the China and mystery parking lots are owned by Private persons who have a Deal with the Park. and i dont think that the City of brühl would allow that either because auf the trees and wildlife that are on these spaces

    • @brittariedel3446
      @brittariedel3446 Рік тому

@@onepiecefanboy0190 the City council of Bruehl is blocking every expansion plan since years. Phantasialand has bought a plot of land between the park and the Autobahn but the town refuses to give them buildung permits because of envirionmental concerns. You wonder what protected wildlife and plants might be loving right next to an Autobahn... But they just block everything. Of course they gladly take all the taxes that flow in from the park. Quite hypocritical.

    • @LostxLostxLost
      @LostxLostxLost Рік тому +48

True. It's right between the autobahn, a city and a nature reserve. And I honestly think it's a great thing, even though I am a little sad every time a ride from my childhood has to make room for a new thing. But they really are experts now to use the little room they have in the most efficient and stylish ways, creating wonderful landscapes and stunning rides. And ofc you don't need to walk that much as a visitor.

    • @TheThursty100
      @TheThursty100 Рік тому +10

Afaik they want to expand, and for a few years now and they actually could expand, but the people that live in the city don't want that, because it'll be to noisy. I mean that's only part of the reasons surely, but imagine moving next to a theme park and then complaining about how loud it is.

The real beauty about Phantasialand is that it also has a lot of quieter/slower rides for people who either want to take a breather or can't do the wild ones due to health issues. The entire family will have their fun when visiting, no matter the age. The biggest highlight here is certainly the 2-story merry-go-round in the "Historic Berlin" section.

Originally I remember it was a Space ride, where you would fly through space with a lot more stuff to see during the ride. You can still tell by the ride itself and the line that it was a spaceship you were in. Then they tryed to make it a jungle thing to better fit the theme over there. But in my opinion that made the ride 100 times worse. As a VR ride that has to be pretty cool. Especially now that the Race for Atlantis is no longer a thing.

Not to forget the shows, parades and all the little details, which suprise you, even after spending decades going there. A lot of the theming in Phantasialand is actually functional since the park is build pretty close to residential buildings and they have to make sure that the noise is kept down. The park started out in the 60s as a fairytail land (without coasters) and expanded when it got more and more popular. That's why it is so close to the next residential area. So those huge artificial mountains have a purpose: They need to cancel out the noise since there were a lot of complaints about it.

phantasialand has multiple themed sections, or sections that are inspired by certain countries:
a china section, a Mexican section, an african section, just a Berlin section for some reason, a nordic section, a fairy tail style section with a lot of child-friendly stuff, and the newest section which is steampunk.
but phanatsialand also has really cool shows. there is a show called jump, with a bunch of stunt artists doing various stunt with bikes, jumping stilts and trampolines. Its reaaally nice

Hi Ryan, cheers from one of your channel´s newbie subscribers! I´ve just taken a right turn that took me to your content. Being a Phantasialand enthusiast for the longest time (I actually moved to Cologne 30 years ago - just to live near the park!), I can absolutley feel Canobie´s take on the park. Though I´ve been to Disneyworld/Universal-Studios/Seaworld/Orlando back in 1996, still/nevertheless/speaking of theming, Phantasialand really has achieved such a well-deserved household name reputation in its own right for immersive experiences they´re managing to provide ever since they opened the park in the late 60s.
If you (one of these days) ever manage to hop over to Germany and if you´ll be in dire need of a Phantasialand´s guide, just leave me a note! I´d be glad to show you around. Great work, Ryan!

Yes, Phantasialand is really more of an uprising theme park. It has identity, definitely, the older rides might be nothing special on the world stage, but it's always great to have some history in the park. But with the couple new rides, it really enters international rankings. Its new coasters and accompanying whole themed areas that come with it rival Europa Park or Disney World. Especially F.L.Y inside Rookburgh is incredibly immersive, you feel thrown back in time and location! With steam clouds everywhere and all the pipes and everything, it's truly amazing what they did there.
I just hope, that they will get approved more space, or, which could be another solution, open another park somewhere else with more space. They have definitely proven that they are able to keep up with the theming, and are also offering very incredible coasters and rides with it. I would love to see more of that.
(Meanwhile, my homepark Europa Park is stagnating, declining the great concepts of their engineers at Mack Rides, who have proven with coasters in other parks that they can keep track internationally, but Europa Park just refuses to build any great coaster of those in their own park for some reason, too much thrill or something).

I visite Phantasialand since I'm a kid. Live near Cologne, what's very near to Phantasialand. It's beautiful to see the Park growing, chancing and the new roller coaster they've build. It's an adventure for the hole family, especially because you haven't just one theme, they have different areas with roller coasters, food and shows in line with the topics. My personal favorite coaster is the black mamba, but I love also the old coasters like Winja's Fear & Force in Woodstown or the Colorado roller coaster which isn't that fast and haven't crazy Loopings or spins but you've also get this weird feeling in your stomach which makes it perfect for parents who want to ride with there kids (at the earliest from 4yrs). The Colorado roller coaster was one of the first coasters I've ever rode, so I think it's also a childhood memorie. Probably that's the reason why I've always this happy, excited feeling when I see people riding this or standing in line myself 😂 ❤️

Unfortunately this is not the case anymore (hence I don't have experience with Fly) but this video brought back a bunch of memories. Taron earns top spot for me, too. Closely followed by Winja's Fear, Crazy Bats and River Quest fighting for the podium.
Best thing for me was: My niece celebrating her 11th (?) birthday there including VIP passes that allowed us to ride Taron and Raik (both recently opened by that time) interchangably for one hour with next to no other people there. Opened in 1988, the "Space Center" was Themed in Space, were u drive truth thousand of Stars, Spacestations etc. 2001 the Theme was changed to "Tempel of the Nighthawk". Since 2019 its changed to "Crazy Bats", a VR Dark Coaster. During Covid, VR was canceled, so it was only the Dark Coaster like all the years before. Fun Fact: "Colorado Adventure" (opened in 1996) was called till 2013 "Colorado Adventure - The Micheal Jackson Thrill Ride"

The last time I went there was on my birthday which... they give free entry for people on their birthday, regardless of age, if they can prove its their birthday (which is easy since all Germans need to carry a personal ID on them at all times anyways). Which I am sure many parks do, but I still think it's cool. Because it's not a discount or anything, it's literally you get to go for free (& if you're into it they give you a small badge that says it's your birthday that you can wear and all the mascot characters etc in the park will know and pay special attention, which I imagine is real fun for kids).

I highly recommend this theme park if you visit Germany. Every time my friends and I go there, we end up with so much adrenaline. Just like you said, just walking through this park is breathtaking: Phantasialand is like a planet, it’s divided into different “countries”. Mexico, China, Africa, old viking city, old great britain, iceland and so on. Each and every of those parts have huge amounts of different fresh made food, that is specialized to the world region. In winter season unfortunately most of the rides are closed, so that there is no danger for the visitors. Instead the park delivers ice-shows and so on. Halloween is literally amazing with parades and costumes. If you want the full experience, late spring and early summer are the best! Its not to hot and everything is open.
Also the F.L.Y ride is pretty new, I think it came out 2021/2022 and is just breathtaking! It literally feels like flying. There is nothing under your feet and unlike other roller coasters you don’t sit in the ride. The safety mechanism is around your shoulders and gives you the best experience ever. They literally built a whole new city theme in the park: old Great Britain and it gives you such a vibe. Btw every themed part of Phantasialand has their own specialized music which gives you even more the feeling, that you are in another world.
The park provides you with a extra bus that brings you from the train station to the park and back and a huge map that shows you every little detail (you can get it for free).
The waiting times for each ride varies but are actually really short especially if you don’t come in easter or summer school holidays. That mouse-chocolate-shooting ride is the whole opposite: every time I’m there the queue is sooooo long, I don’t even wait. When I saw a video of Disneyland I was really shocked because those waiting lines are sooo long! So if you want an theme Park that has amazing rides and you don’t want to wait for hours for one ride: go to Phantasialand.

  • @swanpride

A comment about the "bottom rides": The "Geisterrikscha" is basically a ghost ride which was inspired by the haunted mansion in Disneywold, and the oldest ride which is still in the park (since it replaces old attractions which aren't as popular anymore fairly frequently due to space issues).
The Crazy Bats ride was originally part of the "future" part of Phantasialand, back then it was still the Galaxy drive, and actually very cool, because it was a complete dark ride. But then safety regulations basically forced the park to make it less dark (and therefore less good), in additition the ride has a climate probleme (the air in it is so stale that you might want to throw up while still waiting in line). They rethemed it a couple of times since the orginal futuristic part of Phantasialand was replaced by a fantasy theme, hence now it and the Hollywood tours (which is directly behind it in the same building) is now sitting pretty akwardly in the area. One doesn't have to be a genius to guess that those two rides will be the next ones which either have to go or will end up being rethemed completely (unlike the Geisterrickscha, which is still fairly popular, fits in the Asia part of the park and has the advantage of a crazy high capacity).
The Colorado Adventure is, well, nice, but I am still nostalgic about the old canyon ride. Sadly that one went up in flames at one point (nobody got hurt), so they replaced it with the water ride. Plus, Taron is actually closer to it in experience than the Colorado Adventure.
I am not a big fan of the free fall tower. There are better ones out there.
I am pretty sure that Mouse au Chocolate is older than the Toy Story one. Phantasialand used to got a lot of inspiration from Disneyworld, but recently, it has been more the other way around. (Mouse au Chocolate is also one of my favourites, it is beautifully themed and so much fun).
Regarding the rides which didn't make the list: The only ones missing are the ones which are for really small kids.

I went to Phantasialand back in September 2019. My best friend and I stayed at the Asian themed hotel there. The hotel was amazing. The beds were comfy and the room was super clean. The staff was lovely as well.
My favorite ride was Raik, but Crazy Bats and River Quest were a lot of fun as well.
If you ever get to go to Phantasialand I would recommend going to River Quest first thing in the morning. You get to go into the park earlier than the normal visitors if you stay at one of the hotels. That means that you don't have to wait in a very long line if you go there straight away. But you do get drenched on that ride. We had to go back to our room and change into a dry set of clothes after the ride.
When I was there they had VR glasses for the Crazy Bats ride. Apparently they showed a nice little movie (or something like that) with bats during the ride. My motion sickness kicked in after not even a minute of wearing those glasses and I had to take them off. I still loved the ride because riding a roller coaster in almost total darkness was a lot of fun for me. I had never done something like that before because before my trip to Phantasialand I had never been on a roller coaster (I was too scared to go one). That trip was all about overcoming my fear of roller coasters and it worked out very well. I really hope I get to go Phantasialand again one day.

Another related suggestion would be Hansa Park. It is a slightly less known theme park but also has some really cool rides such as the highest and fastest gyro drop in Europe (the Highlander).

Yeah, Phantasialand sets the bar extremely high. I only went there once and I'm going back there this summer. It's awesome, every ride is amazingly thought and placed.

An incredible theme park. Went there last October for the first time. It has a very small footprint, but the rides and theming where far better than anything in the bigger northern Germany parks I'm used to. The last coaster is build around a new hotel, where you can see the coaster from nearly any point of the walkways and cabins. You can even take a nightwalk through the area, if you sleep in the hotel. Great experience, but i fear, my it set the bar a little too high when coming back to my normal go-to-parks. 😅

First time I visited Phantasieland was in 1977 (my 10th birthday). I went every few years until I was in my early 20s. So I haven't been there for 30 years and only know one ride from this video. Since I can't stand rollercoasters I wonder how much other stuff there is for people like me. When I was a child I loved the boat ride around the lake and the ride through the mine in "Western Town". I guess most things I knew don't exist anymore. I wish I kept the brooklets of the park I collected over the years. They would be quite intersting to look at now. Unfortunately I gave them away in the 90s.

Phantasialand IS cool. The indoor coaster too. They have lots of themed areas and even rebuilt the Brandenburg Gate. It's been many years since I've been there, but I'd defo do it again - any time. Oh and the d=fun house with the sliding stairs - Sarah Winchester would've loved that to have in her Winchester Mystery house in San José for sure

I will never set foot on that new flying coaster again. The restraints are so loose if you got a bit of female chest, that you almost fall out when it tilts into flying mode. I was busy trying to keep in the seat the whole ride and I tried it twice in different years. Read online that the other alternative is to not be able to breathe...
I love rollercoasters in general though.
    Taron is my favorite.

There is no way you can fall out of those restraints. If there would be a way this could happen the german TÜV would never give an ok for the operation of this coaster.

I completely disagree. FLY is perfectly fine to ride as a female. If you think the restraints are tooo loose just ask the friendly operators to close them a Bit further.
I really enjoy flying through Rookburgh in FLY. For me it is by far the best coaster in the Park.
And even better were the night Rides at Wintertraum.

@@ruathar9211 yeah well, would you like to have your feet dangling out of the holding contraption?
Would you not cling into the seat and just hang loose? I doubt it.
Didn't try to find out if I would actually fall out. Hanging in the wrong position is bad enough.

@@brittariedel3446 there is not even time to ask for that.
Did the restraint sit tightly on your hip?

@@dieZera There is no way that your feet can get out of the foot restraints. I tried it more than once and there is no way when they are closed.
The ride is for people with a height of 1,30m and up. Even small childrens feet will not slip out. Maybe if you are not wearing shoes, but this is not allowed.
