Ironically, I am sitting here working on my son's Mariner's Compass quilt that was supposed to be a gift for his high school graduation. (He graduated in 2001. 😆) Laura, only you could make the Mariner's Compass block seem so doable! I paper-pieced my blocks, and they are nowhere near as accurate as yours done with templates! Thanks for your calm and soothing videos. You make us feel like we can sew anything!
You have made this look fool proof! Did this pattern many years ago by another method, but your tutorial would have been so much easier to follow. Thank you so much! Clear instructions, love it!
This is not only a very timely video for me but also incredibly well done. Best of all, thanks for introducing me to these templates. I have wanted to make a mariners compass with some gorgeous nautical fabric I have collected for such a quilt. Again thanks and appreciate all of your videos.
Saw a Mariner's compass at a quilt show, a full size quilt. I could not stop staring at it it was so perfectly done. Amazing skill it must have taken to piece it.
Superb video. Your voice, easy-to follow sequence, non-bewildering camera angles, all of it--just perfect--gave me confidence to sew this block and thank you for the lead to the template set!
I have always been intrigued by the Mariner's Compass in quilts and you have you have made it understandable and I will be trying it again. Awesome tutorial
You always make things simpler! I was putting off the Mariner until "some day later", but after watching your tutorial, 'some day's will be 'sooner'. Thanks so much!😊
Hands down the best tutorial on a Mariner's Compass, Laura. Your tutorial made the process so much easier. I've learnt such a lot from your teaching methodology💟💟💟✂️📍
Whoaaaa Nelly........ that is gorgeous...... I’ve always envied those paper piecing quilts .... and now I think it’s doable in just a few steps...... fantastic video Lara, those templates are just the thing To get us going!
Love your video; I have the same border fabric purchased about 12 years ago! Will use it to make a mariner's compass! Great video with great information
What an excellent tutorial for a usually very complex design. I would hand-stitch all the applique, the extra effort will be worth it. Thanks Laura! ~Diana K
The templates definitely help with the compass, but it's still a tricky one to make. I'll wait until I have more skill and confidence to try it. Thanks for a wonderful tutorial 😊👍💕
Beautiful. Love how you explained and demonstrated each step. Still looks fiddly for me, but I’m sure with correct templates it would be easier. Thanks Laura. From Australia
This is great! I do enjoy your teaching style. The Mariner's block is one I've always wanted to try but being new to quilting and self taught, these video's are a great tool! Thank you for simplifying this block, can't wait to try it! I hope you continue making awesome video's.
I bought the Rose Window Pattern and I loved how you made your mariners compass! Hope I can transfer your ideas to the rose window patter? the rulers they sent are very different then the ones you showed! wish me luck
Beautiful fabric choices for the Mariners Compass. I have never done that one but do love it. I would love to make one large enough for under my Christmas tree omitting the middle circle. Hmmm, wonder if that is doable for my very wide tree?
Thank you for the video. The ruler would be great for people that don't like paper piecing. It looks very doable with the ruler that is being used, but I still prefer paper piecing. One section would be easy to do with fpp then join the sections together.
could you do a tute on making our own Luggage Decorative Strapping Straps...using 2inch webbing/buckles to go around our luggage for making it easy to identify our luggage in the airports on the carousels? and to keep our luggage secure? thanks!
Wow, I’m laughing because I know you simplified the process but I still think it looks awfully hard. You did a great job with the tutorial! I’m still intimidated. 😅
Laura, I found this video a few minutes ago and ordered the kit on Amazon. I just love, love, love the fabrics that you used to make this mariners compass and as always your explanation of how to make it could not be easier. I love the colour coordination. Where did you got the fabrics from? I can see a king size quilt out of the fabrics. I love all your colour combinations that I've seen you use in your videos so far.
Hi Laura, love all your tutorials. Questions - Could I make this compass, make a circular back, sew all around, birth it, and then applique it onto a nautical quilt I am in the process of making. I would do mine in reds, whites and blues. Would it look okay in the center of a quilt which is all blocks and 4 patches?
Could you do a "New York Beauty" with a similar technique-and would you demonstrate that?? I really want to make that particular block(s)... Thank you. :+)
Laura can you please do the same with Marti Michelle 's double wedding ring templates? I have bought them but am finding this very difficult and this video is tempting me to buy the Mariner's Compass templates too!!
I do agree that would be great and I have suggested it on another video to Marti, however Laura's videos are so clear and she has little tips that are invaluable. There are a few double wedding ring videos but none that are straightforward enough for this poor quilter! My hopes rest on Laura.
Hi, my name is Maria Venereo and I am watching you mariners compass video and I was wondering if you could help me. I need to make a King size quilt for my friends beach house and they are fisherman’s . I want to make one with a big compass in the center of the quilt. Do you have any suggestions on how to find or modify yours. I love it but I need a big pattern. If you can help me I will appreciate it immensely. Thank you for your time María A Venereo
to make this bigger you would need to make the blades longer. The points and the size (sidewise) will be the same just make it longer. Which will also make the center larger
Salve le volevo fare una domanda sto realizzando il suo mariner compass con Il volo d’anatre Vorrei sapere se lei da un significato preciso all’unione del blocco del volo Delle’anatre al blocco della rosa dei venti grazie
Your link to frommarti.com is missing a character and so doesn't work. The correct link is www.frommarti.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FMM&Product_Code=8704&Category_Code= The amazon link didn't work for me either.
If that test pattern page has a point that isn't long enough, I'd redraw it so that it's correct. I'm the one who would try to use it a month from now and not know why my piece isn't fitting. LOL
Amazing quilt block. The fabrics, the detailed explanation made it much more doable than any I have seen.

I love the simplicity of adding the backing
Laura, you are a phenomenal teacher your lessons are easy to follow and simplified. Thank very much!
Beautiful block. Your instructions are always complete and precise. Thank you, again.

Lovely choice of fabrics Laura! You’ve given me confidence that this is a project I could do! Thanks so much!

That looked so intimidating, your tutorial and Marti’s templates make it look doable. Thank you!
Love the Mariner's Compass Laura but never tried it as it seemed too intimidating. Your video made it look more doable thank you!
Superb video. Your voice, easy-to follow sequence, non-bewildering camera angles, all of it--just perfect--gave me confidence to sew this block and thank you for the lead to the template set!
Glad it was helpful!
You made this look so easy. Even easy enough for me not to be terrified to try it myself ! Thank you so much!
Just bought your book ......ITS GREAT cannot wait to get stuck in. So well explained and easy to follow Thank you. Mo England.

You always pick such beautiful color combinations.
Who knew it could be so easy?! I love the colors you chose - very striking
Beautiful Laura! New to quilting and hadn’t seen that block before 😊
What a WONDERFUL tutorial, and tool! This is so fantastic! Thank you!
Beautiful. You make it look easy but still don't think I have the patience to make it. Thank you for showing how it is done.
I wasn't intimated by the inner points, but by the outside circle. This is brilliant!
I'm just now watching this video, and it is great! I can't wait to be able to afford a mariner's compass template set!
Thank you Laura ✂️
Thank you Laura, nicely done as always. May be I will try this. 🤔 It has always been one of those that I have never cared to attempt.
I bought the Rose Window Pattern and I loved how you made your mariners compass! Hope I can transfer your ideas to the rose window patter? the rulers they sent are very different then the ones you showed! wish me luck
One of the best tutorials ever, thank you, Laura!
BEAUTIFUL!! Looks like a LOT of work to me!
By watching your tutorial on this, I’m going to try to make it. Thank you!

Just beautiful, Laura, as usual!
I have always wanted to do a Mariner's Compass but was intimidated by them. I will have to try this method. Thank you for another great tutorial.
Thank you for the video. The ruler would be great for people that don't like paper piecing. It looks very doable with the ruler that is being used, but I still prefer paper piecing. One section would be easy to do with fpp then join the sections together.
Thank you for such a clear tutorial. I know how to do the outside without any fear!
Beautiful, thank you
That is Beautiful, Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for very good tutorial, I do many mariners compasses and they are lovely!
Loraine Lapratte, I am looking for a mariners compass quilt design, would you happen to know of any?
Great pattern. Great video. Lots of work still though. It's a "maybe someday" project for me.
Beautiful fabrics, nice job

so lovely
That was fascinating!!!
Sewing miracle!
Excellent. TY.
I think I would still have better luck with paper piecing, however this is certainly an interesting alternative. Thanks!

Yes, absolutely
@@SewVeryEasy Thanks. You are a great teacher!

I really want to make that particular block(s)...
Thank you. :+)
Do you know where I could order the border print, or one similar to it for that part of the mariner's compass?
This would be a great center medallion for a quilt.
Unable to find the link for the marti Mitchell compass pattern & templates
Does the book come with the template set?
The "waxy" side if freezer paper is plastic... Says so right on the front of the box. ❤🌅🌵
Laura can you please do the same with Marti Michelle 's double wedding ring templates? I have bought them but am finding this very difficult and this video is tempting me to buy the Mariner's Compass templates too!!
Marti Michelle should make her own tutorial videos to sell her templates, don't you think? Try this: ua-cam.com/video/F_cNhYvrKEs/v-deo.html
I do agree that would be great and I have suggested it on another video to Marti, however Laura's videos are so clear and she has little tips that are invaluable. There are a few double wedding ring videos but none that are straightforward enough for this poor quilter! My hopes rest on Laura.
Where can i get the paper piecing pattern?
Glad somebody caught the Marine's compass. Wish the proofreaders were a little more educated on what they are proofreading.
Where do I buy these templates

Thank you very much for you attention to my dilema. I will do that. Have a Sewistic Day!!!
That s lovely, but I think foundation piecing is easier
What's that I see in the corner? A you tube award?

The printing just didn't print long enough...LOL. I want to use that one when I make an error. 😉
That's pretty, but, I'm not good at quilts.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Fat quarter shop carries it.
Gorgeous! Thanks!
