It’s still strange to me that the queen is no longer with us, I was on this planet when her father was on the throne, so I’ve had almost all my life with the queen on the throne
I was alive for 25 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. I'm British and I say it's still so unbelievable that she is no more.
How old are you Sam defrond
like 100
I had my ENTIRE life with knowing only a Queen. Will be nice to have a king for a bit i guess.

King Charles literally sounds like a narrator In a fairy tale movie
That would be terrifying.
He’s always had a great voice, in my opinion. It’s interesting that in the third and forth seasons of The Crown, the actor who played Prince Philip (don’t remember his name) did not really sound like Philip, but he sounded a LOT like Charles.
He does have a beautiful speaking voice, especially as he aged.
George V had a voice both comforting and strong, conveying that serene constancy which the Monarch is meant to embody. It’s like listening to one’s grandfather. Edward VIII had the voice and style of speech suited to a king, but his reign was a short one. George VI, despite his struggle with his stutter, conveyed strength and conviction. Elizabeth II was the living definition of Royal elegance and gravitas, and her voice was a familiar part of so many lives for so many years, may she rest in well-deserved peace. Charles III, like his mother, embodies that same elegance of speech and Royal presence. Wonderful video.
I agree. Especially the King Charles III's voice is the most elegant in my opinion. As an Italian native speaker, all the monarchs speaking slowly can allow me to figure out what they're saying exactly but the most elegant accent beholds to the King Charles III.
Edward VIII sounded like a bratty upperclass teen to me, which he effectively was.
Everybody except for Charles and Elizabeth sounds like an idiot
Chuck 3sticks can, in no way, measure up to QEII,
George VI or V.
It's crazy that I, as a non-native English speaker, can understand them and can listen to their speeches.
Queen Elizabeth had such poise, grace, and confidence even when she was a young woman. We were lucky to have had her for so long.
Her grandmother Queen Mary taught her that
She’s a satanist
She was an inbred
@@jazzywazzy1998 queen Mary was one of the greatest Queen consorts in recent history
And she was a beautiful young woman!
King Charles’ voice is deeper and more resonant than the other kings.
Possibly it's because he's older
I kinda expected King George V's voice to sound like King Charles's voice
He is older
@@barabarabaraberebereberee no, it has always been deep and rich.
There’s also better recording technology now…that helps his voice sound more rich.
Victoria says: “Britains are restless for their Queen to speak. Let me answer, if can be. Towards the end of a wonderful gift to me, that I’ve never forgotten.”
I have always heard "Britain's restless for their Queen to speak. Let me answer, if I can be... We all had a wonderful festival (could be the Golden Jubilee in 1887, as this was recorded in 1888), that I have never forgotten."
King Charles III has the most 'kingly' voice.
Maybe because he is the oldest.
Why do you guys hate Charles so much?
Nah, they have better recordings now.
He may be ugly but his voice Is hottt😂👸 sorry
@@kearo299 He is not and has not been ugly but I agree that his voice is hot :)
The recording of King George VI is so ominous. The content of the speech, the last sentence, the way he delivered it, and how the background static noise reminds me of fire. It's like he's literally standing amidst a burning world and announcing *yet another* war.
Just so you know, it was because he was stood next to an open window. The images of him by his desk were taken after the fact for PR. He was still struggling with his stammer greatly, and so had a “okay, I can either manage this now or literally never” moment.
The wild thing about the Queen Victoria audio is that you’re listening to the voice of a person who was born during the reign of King George III
And napoleon was still alive
I hardly understood a word
George VI very impressive and dignified. And made more so by the careful pacing and the tactical pauses which were necessary to manage his stammer.
And the continuous help and support of Lionel Logue
@@andypandywaltersthe movie the King’s Speech made me quite emotional as I also have a speech impediment.
Hearing the Queen's voice in the concept of "voices we will never hear live again" just hit differently!
Still can't get used to the idea that she is gone!
While the sound isn’t the best having Victoria’s voice on tape is still brilliant. It would be good if one of Edward was found.
If I recall correctly, Victoria's voice was recorded in 1888, and the first video was recorded in the mid-late 1870's. It still blows my mind sometimes when I think about how long we've actually had the technology we have these days.
I know this was a year ago, but no one recorded Edward VII’s voice, only Victoria’s, as they thought it was “uninteresting” to do so.
When Victoria said "afpbheuyfbwolbaga" I felt that
lol why is this so funny
Charles has a great voice for making speeches with.
It’s interesting that this is probably the last time we’ll have a monarch with a really posh voice as William (and Harry) sounds more like a everyday guy, which I guess is indicative of changing times.
Their accents are awful. They sound like everyday rich people. Not the desired effect.
I don't give anything about monarchy and all that but I wish Harry could become the next king not William like he has willi in his name 😂
@@tahmidhaque1433 Harry wouldn’t want to be king. Which is good because he’d be terrible at the job.
It makes me sad. Teary, even.
How unique to be able to record the monarchs voices! I couldn't hardly hear, or understand Queen Victoria's voice! I hope to hear a good recording of her voice one day soon! Queen Elizabeth's voice and message had showed a big heart ❤️💜 that she had! Best wishes for King Charles 👑!
There are a few remastered versions floating around which try to make the voice sound clearer, from memory here is what she's saying:
"Britons restless for their Queen to speak, let me answer, if can be.
We've all had a wonderful festival, which I have never forgotten."
My feelings exactly!
There was only one recording of her voice and she asked that it be destroyed.
@@Chuck0856 , that one recording of her voice, hmn! If that was it, and she asked for it to be destroyed! Then someone probably did it, since she was the queen! I think that most people wouldn't wanted to disobey and disrespect a queen! Especially a queen like her! But then some may have wanted to keep and preserved the recording! It was history, and someone may have wanted to pass the history along! Not saying that the recording wasn't destroyed, and shouldn't been destroyed! Those was just thoughts that I had in mind!
King Charles has a marvelous speaking voice.
What an amazing video. For some reason I expected King George V to have a heavier voice. But his voice nonetheless sounded very serene and elegant. Edward VIII had the voice of a young and charismatic person of elegance. Felt like you could trust that voice. I think King Charles's voice sounds the most like a King. A heavy and bold voice, out of which compassionate words come out with words of high eloquence.
you have a way with words my guy
❤well written
George V most likely did have a bit of a heavier voice, but recording technology back then was not great at capturing the lower elements of sounds. Even the early recordings of Elizabeth II probably miss a bit of depth, her voice did not lower that much as we think. You can really hear how only Charles' recording is a full one.
Well King Charles is also an older gentleman.
Well King Charles is also an older gentleman.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's voice (both her younger voice and her older one) sounds so soothing and motherly!
I know, I always loved her voice. Her younger voice was beautiful, but I especially loved her older voice. And her older voice still sounded quite young, but it had a bit more wisdom behind it. I’m not even British and I miss her.
Queen Elizabeth has the best voice and entonation. What a great and empowered woman!
I always loved her voice.

As a completely blind person, this is absolutely amazing. I can’t see photos, or paintings, but hearing the voices of previous rulers is a really really awesome experience. Also, when King George V said empire, every time I thought of Darth sidious, I feel like that’s irreverent or something lol.

There is only one pause where I think he was getting it under control. Right at 2:36 before the word ‘myself’.

Yes, very impressive
@@kohljackal Excellent catch!
I love King Charles‘ voice, it is so warm, rich and deep. Just wonderful.
Thank you for this. There are a number of recordings of Queen Victoria's voice, but they are all virtually unintelligible. I do agree, and I have done a fair amount of searching myself too, it is surprising that no recording of Edward VII's voice exists.
Maybe it was because he had a rather strong German accent.
He didn't like modern devices. He never used the telephone himself; and since there was no logical reason to record his voice prior to the age of wireless broadcasts he made sure to avoid possible activities like doing a gramaphone recording to preserve his voice.
I don't think that the late Queen ever used a keyboard except perhaps to press a key to officially begin some electronic service or send a pre-written formal message. Charles III is the first British monarch to use a keyboard as part of normal activity.
A linguistics expert online analyzed Elizabeth's voice and said she began her reign with a higher class speech pattern than when she ended. She sounded more like her subjects as she went along.
You can tell that Charles had 74 years as king in training
What a very cool post! I especially appreciate the one of George VI. While he may not have sounded as astute, well-versed or comforting as the other Monarchs, the man was announcing that his country was at war with Germany! Like me, he stuttered, sometimes horribly. I'm not sure if his parents sought much help for him or not on this matter as he was also not supposed to be King! He thought he and his Scottish bride would live a quiet life supporting his brother, Edward VIII! George VI was a very intelligent King with a very strong backbone that stood up to Hitler! Probably the hardest speech of his life, he never even stammered. His grandson, Charles III sounds much like him. I have to wonder if George didn't stutter if he and his grandson would sound almost exactly alike!
Queen Elizabeth, his wife, got him help and the doctor bettered his speech significantly!
@@ginismoja2459 I thought it had been his wife ! Thanks for refreshing this old lady's memories!
King George V handled the WW1 which was more disastrous than ww2. King George V modernized, rebranded and saved the monarchy and brought it from Victorian era to modern age. He paved the way for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth
@@GodisMyNo1 you're right, George V did indeed do all these things. While this sounds cruel, he was lucky to have his father ahead of him after the death of his older brother as being Prince of Wales gave him time to understand how the monarchy worked, something that GEORGE VI didn't really have. He was also a stronger person than his son. Bertie stuttered, which was tantamount to being a weakling in the eyes of royals everywhere as well as governments in those days. He was shy and unassuming because of this until his wife got him the help he needed. But when the bombs dropped on London, George VI proved that speech had nothing to do with bravery. He sent his children away but he himself stayed and endured what his people did. WWI destroyed Europe and cost England many men, but WWII destroyed England itself. Without his deft use of his father's restructuring, England could have lost to Germany, which is unthinkable. As it was, he was able to work with his government and Churchill in particular to bring about an end to the war. Both were strong men, well deserving of praise! George V put his house in order and created the way for George VI to successfully commandeer his country through WWII.
Georges V & VI sound very similar,. both have a comforting tone to them and, I imagine, would reassure the population in times of troubles and strifes. The same for Charles who also sounds very similar - although slightly different accent/intonation - to his grandfather and great grandfather. Interestingly I though Elizabeth and Edward VIII spoke in a similar tone to each other, both different to Georges V & VI which i thought was fascinating.
A great video, thank you.

George V still has some German accent in his voice. I read that Victoria has a very thick German accent as well. Charles is a great speaker. And so is his mom.
I had to back the video up, and it's not that noticable, but it is there.
I really appreciate to hear the voice of King Charles III,long may he reign!
I do quite enjoy the voice of King Charles III. He always sounds thoughtful & warm, and his voice has a resonate, mellow coziness to it. I shall enjoy hearing more of his voice in the years to come. King George V also had a nice voice. To be honest, however, I find the voices of both King Edward VIII & King George VI to be difficult to listen to. Edward VIII's voice sounds high-pitched and grating & George VI, of course, had a speech impediment which makes listening to him a bit of a chore (as stellar and as truly good a king as he was).
Kudos to the person that went back in time and recorded the voices of all of these monarchs.
King Charles seriously has the most kingly and royal voice I’ve ever heard from an Englishman. The guy is a soft spoken class act of a man.
He's had a loooong time to practice
No question about it
I am surprised that there is no recording of Edward VII anywhere.

King Edward VIII : A Rich Spoiled Socialite
King George VI : A Deep Thinker
Queen Elizabeth II : An Optimist and Cheerful Girl
King Charles III : A Punctilious Person
Charles has such a phantastic voice. Like a narrator. Great.
It’s fantastic not phantastic
@@nerdy8644 calling a person out on spelling is not necessary. You knew what they meant !
@@mamabeth76 you shouldn’t put exclamation points after a space
@@nerdy8644
"Phantastic" is the alternative, more classical* spelling (compare Latin "phantasticus" from Greek "φανταστικός" which I transliterate "phantastikos") of the now more common form in English "fantastic" which derives from the French "fantastique" which itself derives from the Latin "phantasticus". It is generally considered dated and pulling out Google's ngram viewer we observe that it has always been the minority spelling in the available corpus of English literature but it is not an incorrect spelling per se.
* N.B. here "classical" simply means "in the style of something from ancient Greece or Rome" and it does not mean that "phantastic" is the older spelling; I have no idea which is the older spelling and it is possible both spellings were used since the beginning of the words introduction into English but I imagine "fantastic" or some variant of it (e.g., "fantastick") was the spelling originally used before some scholars opted for a spelling closer to the words etymologically classical origin.

King George V, the man who came closest to being King of the World ( a constitutional one though ) It was during his reign that the British Empire , the largest in history was at its territorial peak…
King Charles spoke with great intelligence joined with deep feeling. He is the most articulate of the monarchs. An impressive first encounter with the new King.
It helps that he had attended university and, indeed, did some theatre work there. It allowed him both the knowledge one might expect of a Sovereign and the skill to present himself with some appreciation for oratory. He's far more natural in front of the camera.
😂 he waffles! He also said "I'm me and always will be". Keep liking your inbreds. Creep
Not to mention he was the longest serving Heir apparent, in other words he had his entire life to find the words
You can even hear the echo from the spacious room he must have been recording in
Agree.. his accent so elegant.

Lol I read this, when it started to play LMaO
I’m curious if George V and Nicholas II also had similar voices, since they looked very similar to each other, so it wouldn’t be much to apply that to their voices. Not sure if George V spoke Russian, but I’m sure Nicholas II spoke some English, since it was the preferred language of his wife and his children whilst speaking to their mother.
That is because Tsar Nicholas II is king George V's cousin.
Infact Nicholas II, Kaiser Wilhelm ii and George V are all cousins. Nicholas and George being 1st cousins while Nicholas and Wilhelm are 3rd cousins
They are nephew...
@@lobakputih202 Wilhelm II was Nicholas II & George V's nephew. Nicholas & George were cousins, as their mothers were sisters - Princesses of Denmark.

Nicholas the second actually spoke English so well that some were shocked to learn he hadn't been educated on England. At least, that's what I read in a biography of Alexandra, his wife

She was on the throne so bloody long we thought she’d never die…
Still find it strange that the queen is no longer with us, because throughout my entire existence ever since I was born, I’ve always used to knowing that UK has a queen as their heads of state.
George V spoke without any accent, remarkable! As if he were a modern day American..
I think George V and Edward VIII sound rather Irish.
I see so many people mention that Charles III has a deeper voice than the other kings in this video and between that and your comment, I have to wonder, was the transatlantic accent common in England as well in the early 1900s, as it was in the US? Because George V and Edward VIII almost seem to have it, and part of the accent is that it tends to make men's voices higher
Americans do have an accent too.
@@splaar I think the deeper voice of the new king is an illusion caused by changing tech. The previous recordings were mechanical and it was necessary to speak up, and almost shout to make the record clear...Charles III didn't have that problem.
Still the unrealest feeling of sadness over Her Majesty our Queens passing...Don't think I'll ever get used to it. Long live our Greatest Queen, Queen Elizabeth II, may she rest in peace.❤
Amazing. I think you should also do one with their consorts. I know recordings exist of Queen Mary’s voice, but I don’t know about Queen Alexandra.

Also,wasn’t Alexandra deaf?
@@cathyblackhall5237 Not completely at the beginning. She had otosclerosis which got worse as she aged, but she could apparently hear enough in her early years to develop her speech.

Here's the Transcript of the Monarchs' Speeches :
*1) Queen Victoria **0:00** - **0:16*
Up until recently, it was unclear what the Queen was saying because of the Recording's Quality which made it extremely hard to decipher the Speech.
But the Recording has been Restored and know we know what she said:
_“Britons, (mostly inaudible) ready for the present Queen to speak, let me answer with Candor, your Candor and well Wishes to me, I have never Forgotten”_
Interestingly enough, you can hear (altough it's very hard to notice) a man speaking in the background probably saying:
_“Get Ready for Her”._
This man is believed to be Colonnel George Edward Gouraud (1842-1912), who is behind History's First Music Recording, using Thomas Edison's Gramophone (Queen Victoria's Speech was recorded using his Gramophone).
You can also "hear" a Woman near the End saying what has been interpreted as:
_“Your Majesty.”_
This is probably Susanna Innes-Ker Duchess of Roxburghe (1814-1895), who was very close to Victoria.
*2) Edward VII **0:16** - **0:30*
No recording of Edward VII exists.
Altough, it's said he spoke fluently English, French and German, and he may have spoken English with a German Accent, but this claim is probably fake(?)
Here is Edward VII's Speech in 1901, when he rose to the Throne (as I said, this is just the Transcript, a Recording doesn't Exist):
_My Lords and Gentlemen,_
_I address you for the first time at a moment of National sorrow, when the whole Country is mourning the irreparable loss which we have so recently sustained, and which has fallen with peculiar severity upon Myself. My beloved Mother, during Her long and glorious reign, has set an example before the world of what a Monarch should be. It is My earnest desire to walk in Her footsteps._
_Amid this public and private grief it is satisfactory to Me to be able to assure you that My relations with other Powers continue to be friendly._
_The war in South Africa has not yet entirely terminated; but the capitals of the enemy and his principal lines of communication are in My possession, and measures have been taken which will, I trust, enable My troops to deal effectually with the forces by which they are still opposed. I greatly regret the loss of life and the expenditure of treasure due to the fruitless guerilla warfare maintained by Boer partisans in the former territories of the two Republics. Their early submission is much to be desired in their own interests, as, until it takes place, it will be impossible for Me to establish in those Colonies institutions which will secure equal rights to all the white inhabitants, and protection and justice to the Native population._
_The capture of Peking by the allied forces, and the happy release of those who were besieged in the Legations, results to which My Indian troops and My Naval forces largely contributed, have been followed by the submission of the Chinese Government to the demands insisted on by the Powers. Negotiations are proceeding as to the manner in which compliance with these conditions is to be effected._
_The establishment of the Australian Commonwealth was proclaimed at Sydney on the 1st January with many manifestations of popular enthusiasm and rejoicing._
_My deeply beloved and lamented Mother had assented to the visit of the Duke of Cornwall and York to open the first Parliament of the new Commonwealth in Her name._
_A separation from My Son, especially at such a moment, cannot be otherwise than deeply painful; but I still desire to give effect to Her late Majesty’s wishes, and as an evidence of Her interests, as well as of My own, in all that concerns the welfare of My subjects beyond the seas, I have decided that the visit to Australia, shall not be abandoned, and shall be extended to New Zealand and to the Dominion of Canada._
_The prolongation of hostilities in South Africa has led Me to make a further call upon the patriotism and devotion of Canada and Australasia. I rejoice that My request has met with a prompt and loyal response, and that large additional contingents from those Colonies will embark for the seat of war at an early date._
_The expedition organised for the suppression of the rebellion in Ashanti has been crowned with signal success. The endurance and gallantry of My Native troops, ably commanded by Sir James Willeocks, and led by British officers, have overcome both the stubborn resistance of the most warlike tribes in West Africa and the exceptional difficulties of the climate, the season, and the country in which the operations have been conducted._
_The garrison of Coomassie, which was besieged by the enemy, has been relieved after a prolonged and gallant defence; the principal Kings have surrendered, and the chief impediment to the progress and development of this rich portion of My West African possessions has now, I hope, been finally removed._
_The suffering and mortality caused by a prolonged drought over a large portion of My Indian Empire has been greatly alleviated by a seasonable rainfall; but I regret to add that in parts of the Bombay Presidency distress of a serious character still continues, which my officers are using every endeavour to mitigate._
_Gentlemen of the House of Commons,_
_The Estimates for the year will be laid before you. Every care has been taken to limit their amount, but the Naval and Military requirements of the Country, and especially the outlay consequent on the South African war, have involved an inevitable increase._
_The demise of the Crown renders it necessary that a renewed provision shall be made for the Civil List. I place unreservedly at your disposal those hereditary revenues which were so placed by My predecessor: and I have commanded that the Papers necessary for a full consideration of the subject shall be laid before you._
_My Lords and Gentlemen,_
_Proposals will be submitted to your judgment for increasing the efficiency of My Military forces._
_Certain changes in the constitution of the Court of Final Appeal are rendered necessary in consequence of the increased resort to it, which has resulted from the expansion of the Empire during the last two generations._
_Legislation will be proposed to you for the amendment of the Law relating to Education._
_Legislation has been prepared, and, if the time at your disposal shall prove to be adequate, will be laid before you, for the purpose of regulating the Voluntary Bale by Landlords to Occupying Tenants in Ireland, for amending and consolidating the Factory and Workshops Acts, for the better administration of the Law respecting Lunatics, for amending the Public Health Acts in regard to Water Supply, for the prevention of drunkenness in Licensed Houses or Public Places, and for amending the Law of Literary Copyright._
_I pray that Almighty God may continue to guide you in the conduct of your deliberations, and may bless them with success._

_Through one of the Marvels, of Modern Science, I am enabled, this Christmas Day, to speak to all my Peoples, throughout the Empire._
_I take it as a Good Omen, that while this should have reached its Present Perfection, at a Time when the Empire has been linked, in Closer Union._
*4) Edward VIII **1:05** - **1:54*
_To the Princes and Peoples of India, I send my Greeting as the King Emperor._
_The Manifestation of your Sorrow, and of your loyalty at this Time, have been a Source of Deep Gratification to me, the Associations in Peace and in War, between the British and Indian People, have been Long and Honorable._
_And the Example set by Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, and by King George, lays on me as their successor._

To every Household of my People, both at Home and Overseas, This Message: Spoken with the Same depth of Feelings for each one of you, as if I were able to force your Threshold and speak to you... Where we shall Renew and Extend the Friendships which we value so very Highly... In the Early part of the Year, we shall visit India and Pakistan, on the invitation of the Presidents of those Countries, and I welcome especially, this Opportunity, of seeing for the First Time, something of these two Great Nations of the Commonwealth._
*7) Charles III **3:26** - **4:25*
_My Lords, and Members of the House of Commons... I am deeply grateful for the Addresses of Condolence, by the House of Lords and the House of Commons, which so Touchingly Encompass what our late Sovereign, my Beloved Mother (The Queen) meant to resolve._
_As Shakespeare says of the Earlier Queen Elizabeth she was... A Pattern to all Princes living, as I stand before you today, I cannot help but feel the Weight of History, which Surrounds us, and which Reminds us... Of the Vital Parliamentary Traditions, to which members of Both Houses dedicate yourselves which such Personal Convictions... For the Betterment of us all_

Shame there’s no record of Edward VII’s voice.
I've always found it strange that there are no recordings of Edward VII's voice because he was very much into modern technologies and lived at a time when such recordings were no longer that rare.
It amazes me how similar some of the actors from the crown sound to these recordings, just because they were trained to pronounce and stress parts of words a certain way and tried to speak with a higher or lower voice...
Why am I surprised that Queen Victoria’s recording? Sounds like the teacher from Charlie Brown?
So you’re telling me, that we have a recording of Queen Victoria but not Edward VII?
Queen Elizabeth's voice is the only one I've known thank you for sharing
The song from good,ol' Johnny Horton was a nice touch at the end.❤🥰🤣🤣😆

It’s most unfortunate that no audio recording of HM, King Edward VII exists. Thank you for trying so hard to find one. I would’ve loved to hear the voice of HM, King Edward VII.
