  • ‘The Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa’, better known as the Maputo Protocol is one of the world’s most comprehensive and progressive women’s human rights instruments, and was adopted by Heads of State of the African continent and Government in Maputo, Mozambique on 11 July 2003. The protocol officially serves to recognise the crucial role of women in the preservation of African values based on the principles of equality, peace, freedom, dignity, justice, solidarity and democracy.
