  • Making mistakes is a crucial part of learning a new language. When we try to communicate in a foreign language, naturally we tend to rely on our mother tongue, which isn't always the most effective approach. In this video, I'll highlight 5 common mistakes English speakers frequently make in Czech. The good news is that these errors are easy to fix. Once you become aware of them, you can start perfecting your Czech with confidence.

    One that always makes my czech partner laugh is responding with "I'm good", for example if I don't want anything to eat/drink...

      I know! "Jsem dobrý" doesn't do it, we have to say something like 'pro mě ne' or 'já ne'. Just a few days ago, one of my students and I were thinking about how to express this in Czech but there is no such a universal phrase that could be used with more contexts.

    the first error made sense to me too since in hindi we use dative marker/case after the word to understand
    standard hindi - Main use samahta-hum
    same for 2nd error we use to come with late- vilambh/deri(+ablative case marker)
    like main deri se aunga more like i will come late.
    same goes for number 4
    and thx for explaining them.

      Thank you! It's interesting to learn how these seemingly different languages share some similar grammar features.

    Thank you, another great video 👏🏻Sometimes I encounter myslet si. I understand it’s reflexive. But, in this context, does “Myslím si, že …” have a difference than “Myslím, že …”?

    • @CzechbyZuzka
      @CzechbyZuzka  3 місяці тому +1

      _Myslet si, že..._ and _myslet, že..._ are practically interchangeable. "Si" emphasizes the fact that it is our own opinion. Something it sounds better to add "si".
      Myslel jsem (si), že nepřijdeš. - I thought (to myself) you were not coming.
      We have to be careful with *myslet* used in a construction with the preposition o, e.g. _myslet si o..._ - think about/have an opinion, where it is not possible to leave out "si":
      Co SI o tom myslíš? - What do you think about it?

    I'm Russian and I see that to communicate with Czechs I'll need English. 🙄
