I've tried to watch the other tutorials and honestly NONE of them were as simple as this one! I am a photoshop noob so even the most "simple" things, I don't understand. Besides that, this tutorial is useful for Windows AND Mac users!! love it! I really loved the way you explain everything. :)
This tutorial is so easy to follow and I love the way you repeat the information multiple times. Very good pacing, pleasant voice, simple instructions. Great job.
Your steps make this colouring quick and fast, which is good. I mainly colour war photos and I just tend to use my wacom tablet and paint it with the brush tool. It makes it so much easier and more precise.
You can also use a gradient adjustment layer to get more variations in color. Works good on trees where different tones of brightness in the leaves will show up as different shades of green, for instance.
A tutorial just the way I like it. Short how to do explanations, no "umms and amms", we could or we should or maybe not remarks - strait foreward going explainings. Very, very good job, Marty! Greetings from Germany!
tremendous tutorial; I used these principles to colorize a nice pic of mom & dad, was a bit complicated by green shubbery behind them and a pine tree in front of them; would love for you to take a look.
i don't know what is your problem, i like Blue lightning tv channel and my judgment is not your business, if you have problem with him , don't watch his channel, it's not an obligating course! you can't force your arrogant opinion on other people, go some where else seek for attention
I thank God for creating such great teacher "Marty". I love all of your Videos, It's really great to learn from your videos. Sir, I want to learn Inception Effect and how to make person invisible in Photoshop. I hope you will provide tutorials in future. Thanks In advance. :)
I have wanted to colorize some portraits I created with B&W film in my 4x5" camera. Your tutorial was clear and informative. Thank you. Terry Thomas... the photographer Atlanta, Georgia USA
Well, it worked until I hit the ctrl + alt + shift + e. After that I brushed some color on some layer and everything was fine but now I can't adjust the previously set colors anymore.
I love your videos! Is there any way to eliminate the grayish tint around the subject when using the refine edge brush. I noticed it slightly on yours but I get way too much.
thanks for the tutorial..can you also restore old photos to look like new ones? I have an old photo of my grandparents and I would like to restore them..
It's not working for me. Solid color tool just keeps making the tone of the black and white lighter or darker, it's not adding color. What am I doing wrong?
This is so nice and it gave me hope to restore my only photo during my graduation. Can you make a tutorial how to delete photo bomber or change the background? Please 🙏... thank you 😘
Marty it was a great tutorial, however those eyes seem funky to me. I thought maybe once you got back from painting the face that you would adjust those greens on her eyes but you did not. Is it just me, or do they look too green/solid? I'm sure you could just bump the opacity down a bit to show off the actual cornea design but they stood out to me upon completion of the video. Sorry for the long winded reply. Just a weird observation.
When I select the background of an image and press 'Q', the person's image becomes red instead of the background. Would really appreciate if you can please help asap. Thanks Marty for all your tutorials:)
Gabi C Gabi C depends on the situation. If the image is a soft copy (developed, printed, etc) and you don't have it digitally, then a scanner would be your best bet. Don't try to photograph it if that's what you're asking - it will just give you more work in Photoshop trying to crop or fix weird angles because you'd need a level to get your camera aimed perfectly straight at the photo. If it's something already on your camera, go ahead and transfer the file right to your computer. You would definitely get the best clarity with a modern DSLR, but depending on the ppi (pixels per inch) you set the scan to, you could technically get approximately equivalent resolutions. I hope that was helpful.
Apparently AI is going to have this covered. All the work we put into learning and perfecting all this stuff and then one day everyone can do it with a free app instantly. Such is life these days I guess

Nice work Marty... Thumbs up...
I used to do this often and had fun with it, but I always wanted to try using gradient maps to see if that wouldn't add an added effect.
Thank you so much for this. I was really struggling in my photography class and this was very helpful and easy to follow!

When I select the background of an image and press 'Q', the person's image becomes red instead of the background. Would really appreciate if you can please help asap.
Thanks Marty for all your tutorials:)
you probably reversed the selection by mistake. if you press command+shift+i (mac) or control+shift+i (windows) it should reverse.
that was just awesome!
great tutorial. u are the best
nice job sir
Hi! great video! What color and option did you use for the skin color
How do you get the picture in the computer? 1. Scan it or 2. take a photo with a DSLR? Which method is better?
search card reader.
it will help you

What do you do for other items in the picture? Same steps but in a different group? Or just keep adding on to the original color balance layer?
Yes, same steps as a different group.
What photoshop you use in here sir? Thanks
CC 215, It's stated in the description below the video. ; - )

I just love the fact that the gums are white
