Hayden came accoss as an arrogant person until I hear his story. Much to learn for aspiring sportsmen or women on enduring the politics of breaking in. As a cricketer he is one of the all time greats. For 7 years he was kept out of the side but look at his record as a test opener - over 8,000 runs with an average above 50. Truly amazing.

glad he mentioned Lara's unconventional grip - always astonished me how he could play 360 with his right hand wrapped so far around

30 test match tons!!! Watched his 201 at MAC Cheapauk in March 2001 where he sizzled in the cauldron of Chennai.Great comeback scripted then in that iconic series.

So Matthew liked JL because he wasn't a Victorian or QUEENSLANDER?!

I think he meant he wasn't a Queenslander or nsw or a western Australian

The best thing about Matty Hayden, is that he's one of those amazing people, so thick that they have absolutely no concept of 'thickness' itself. Even better, he truly appears to think, no matter all evidence to the contrary, that he's Bertrand Russell.
I love the anecdotes that have no point whatsoever; the sentences that contain no sense, the eager smile on his simian visage as he begs for acknowledgement of his rapier wit.
Sometimes, if I'm feeling a bit contemplative, I smile to myself, have a little chuckle and thank providence for Matthew's existence and that I am not him.
Please pass on my warmest wishes to him.

Yes, you do have a point. I met him in 2005 in England during that famous series. He was dismissive, has that air. This is at odds with his strong faith, doesn’t religion say to be humble?
