I’m the wife and co owner. The day they left and after the video. One of the commercial contracts got signed. We just finished it last week. And another one just got signed last week as well. So yeah I mean the sales guy had zero experience in roofing, did some training on roofing information and getting on roofs learning. He wasn’t out there knocking until November. This video was filmed on Dec 1. So I think it’s a little out of context but still thriving and growing here. Just got knocked down but we got back up. Bless you all.
@jessicamendiola9494 Your husband is an inspiration; this has been my favourite video of all of Mike's. I was a homeless/jobless/friendless/penniless drug addict in my 20's...and have turned my life around big time. (I now have a great job, a great wife, moved to the UK, own a house...just sold a business, etc) It can be done if you are clean. And I just love your husband's energy and attitude. I'd work/do business with him any day.
Also, I've been in major debt...tell him (and you) not to stress. Just because you owe someone/anyone money, doesn't mean you have to be unhappy. You owe them money...not your life. If you want to get a great mindset around money, I'd highly recommend "How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt & Live Prosperously" by Jerrold Mundis. It's a gamechanger for your mind, regardless of how much you owe. (I typically re-read it every other year...for the last 20 years or so)
So glad to hear that, this was really sad, this is why I absolutely hate insurance companies , especially in the US. I’m a dual citizen Canadian/American and they don’t get away with this crap in Canada. All the best I hope nothing but good things for you guys, you deserve it.

You need to sh*t can your salesman ASAP! He is NOT a salesman at least not the TYPE of salesman you need! I owned a successful roofing company that I sold when I retired. He's NOT going to sell jobs because he gets a salary therefore, it does not matter to him if he gets a job today or not and he does not NEED to. A good salesman will not require ANY salary and will NOT want one. A GOOD salesman will want COMMISSION!!!
I agree with Mike; get a DBA for Mericopa Roofing Specialists operating under your current license and get a website that speaks home-town. Then you can keep both names and market differently for residential and commercial jobs. The owner had experience with a large company and tried to replicate their business model without understanding the proper steps to scale. I'd bet $100 that big company had a much different setup when they were small. It's almost a curse to have experience with a large company and seeing how they operate when you're wanting to start your own business.
Man, that was tough to watch. I feel for the guy - he seems totally lost. How on earth did he keep the business going with such little business know-how?
To Shawn: Good for you man - getting clean and stepping up for your family. You got this!! You seem like a really cool guy. Keep God in your heart and follow Mike’s advice. You’re gonna be fine! All the Best!!! Love and respect from Canada.

After thinking about it for a minute I'm pretty sure he's saying "The Insurance Company" owes him money so he can tell Mike he has $30,000 that will likely be collected on. In reality he knows the Storm Chasing company he contracted to is long gone and so is his money.

insurnace comopanies are horrible, and are screwing over many small business, I think criminal charges should be laid against croocked insuranc companies. CEO should go to jail
I generally shake my head when a company with 3 million in equipment struggles to pay me a 5,000 dollar invoice 6 months late., I have always takeen the approach with equipment to buy the cheapest unit that will do our jobs, then use the profits from that machine, to buy a better unit, not to run out and buy a machine with a payment, and hope I can keep it profitable to pay for itself AND MAKE MORE profit..
I’ve been in business for 31 years. But I’ve found that it’s really necessary to have two incomes for a business to be successful and less stressful ( wife’s income). Confidence and experience when talking to customers is what sells jobs. Taking on that much debt is to much for any man., every team member needs to be producing daily income. You need to shut it down , save up some cash because you can’t borrow your way out of this debt. Your bankrupt you just can’t come to terms with it. Wish you best of luck in the future.
@@4.0gpa44 that’s true , but having that cushion money coming makes a world of difference. Especially when your waiting on big checks on 30 plus day pay outs.
His ego is what’s sinking his business. 1. He seems to take the advice on focusing on small residential jobs as a grain of salt. He seems to be stuck on the idea that he is bigger than his ex employer. Probably a personal vendetta. 2. They seem to be very defensive on the sales guy. Makes me think he is a family member or manager to convince them that the process will be slow and expensive but worth it at the end. If he made $70k one month when he started (kind of hard to believe) then he should replicate whatever he did during that time and raise enough cash to pay his debts then stash enough money to slowly transition into commercial roofing. There’s a lot of inconsistencies in his story so his problems are probably deeper than what’s shown.
I don't believe that every challenge comes from God. We all make mistakes along the way. We all need a "personal mirror" to reflect on what we're doing right and what's wrong. Sometimes we want to keep going in the wrong direction, we get ahead of ourselves. A successful business owner should know themselves first the good and the bad. They should have a vision, with a plan of action, leadership skills, the proper mindset, the discipline and proper business education. You're not the same person that you were 10 years ago, you're either growing or backsliding. You have to change who you are to level up. If you keep the same habits and have huge income you'll still be broke and only fall harder.

Mike, this guy should be going after public work. He is clearly only focused on commercial roofs. He could be going after commercial repairs on the public side. Open bid. They have to take the lowest bidder.
I've been waiting for a show like this , kinda Bar Rescue for small business owners in the construction trade . I'm definitely a candidate for you Mike, someone that teaches you how to end the cycle of robbing Peter to pay Paul! . 💯❤️
I think this episode is a great example on how not everyone is meant to be a business owner. I think this fella would be a great asset to an established roofing company and would excel with the tools and structure of a healthy company. He doesn't have what it takes to operate all the levers and make this company function as it needs.
@@martinlogan8329 Of course!! As long as you have unlimited funds. This guy's clock is ticking though... he sold most of his assets, got rid of his staff, and it already in debt. How long do you think he can mess around?
@@jim5k yeh fair enough. But if he keeps it simple, 1-2 labourers to help him, stick to the resi jobs, he should make a really good money. That means nothing to these insurance companies. These net 30,60,90 are interest free loans for them
Hey Mike, have you ever helped a pest control company with their business?
Ya a few ✅ good business 👍🏻 same challenges as many other home industries
In business for less than a year.. drove Prius for 4 months, also he made 70 in one month with one employee.
Edit: almost forgot.. he hasn’t had a paying job in 4 months. What a wild story
In summary be yourself. Most people want to deal with a family business.
Mike, this guy should be going after public work. He is clearly only focused on commercial roofs.
He could be going after commercial repairs on the public side. Open bid. They have to take the lowest bidder.
Ohh my goodness, loan shark debt??
I've been waiting for a show like this , kinda Bar Rescue for small business owners in the construction trade . I'm definitely a candidate for you Mike, someone that teaches you how to end the cycle of robbing Peter to pay Paul! . 💯❤️
Right on! Would love to help! MikeAndes.com/turnaround
man i just listed my business for sale, throwing in the towel unless mike can turn it around
Why don't you give them a certain amount of money for a percentage of the buisness
The best salesperson is a referring customer.
I think this episode is a great example on how not everyone is meant to be a business owner. I think this fella would be a great asset to an established roofing company and would excel with the tools and structure of a healthy company. He doesn't have what it takes to operate all the levers and make this company function as it needs.
Maybe. Or maybe he'll learn from this experience and prove you wrong. Business management is surely a skill that can be learnt?
@@martinlogan8329 Of course!! As long as you have unlimited funds. This guy's clock is ticking though... he sold most of his assets, got rid of his staff, and it already in debt. How long do you think he can mess around?
@@jim5k yeh fair enough. But if he keeps it simple, 1-2 labourers to help him, stick to the resi jobs, he should make a really good money. Just needs to keep it humble and simple from here and stay busy on quick paying jobs. I think Mike has given him the blue print to save it. He just needs to stick to it for quite a while and not get too ambitious too soon.
@@martinlogan8329 I wish him the best! He's got all the tools and the drive to succeed.
Yep….
My man needs to let his ego go and just take it easy, focus on what brings revenue, and forget about any competition
👍👍👍!!!
Respectfully not everyone is ment to be a business owner..15 years in the industry so he has experience but less than one year as a owner n is super struggling. It’s easier to have a job.
This guy sounds like he worked for a roofer for a few weeks and tried to go on his own 😂
Your sales guy made zero sale lol
Mike is so awesome!!! And so short!!! 😄
No offence of course lol
New application rule. No owners over 6 feet tall 🤣🤣🤣
@@MikeAndes Or else just bring a step stool!
This guy has no business running a business. Go back and find a roofing job and take care of your family.
Is just proof that anyone can build a business as it easy as it might look
You got a queen there bud.
This happens because of trying to big jobs to fast. Should stay doing a one man and grow slowly
Wow. Some people are meant to be employees. Mike can give this guy all the answers but he just doesn't have enough business sense to make it long-term.
The Bible says owe no man anything. The borrow is servant to the lender. Please don't use God as a reason that you're in debt and that these are trials from him, he says to not do it. You can't say the hangover is from God, when he's against you getting drunk. I do appreciate you guys being open and willing to share about your business I just think people tend to throw trials/ God out there as a reason for bad financial management.
he needs one good job to pay off his debt, Over 3 months you'd think it would be easy
that guy is tall
Or I’m just short 😂
@@MikeAndes How tall are you really, cause I am also under average?
And do you play golf???@@MikeAndes
This couple was pissing me off.
This guy really has someone on salary that has sold 0 jobs and doesn’t know what he does day to day
anybody deserves work its this guy in AZ...
This Shawn guy is awesome ! I’m sure he will figure it out. The website is very clean but doesn’t represent the brand very well. Great job Mike and media team.
Sorry. But they live on hopes and dreams. Believing in god does not mean you stop trying and using your brain.
Oof 😅
