You are confusing „creepy“ with „awkward/cringe“. It was definitely the latter, but was it creepy? He clearly didn‘t intent it in a sexual way. Creepy implies intent.
Getting in a stranger’s face when they’re with their kid and telling them to smile if they like men’s prostates is so much creepier than touching someone’s leg
Toby has the ability to take the tiniest amount of social awkwardness and grow it exponentially till there's nothing left to do but to run away or say sorry.
as a younger viewer i sympathized with toby bc i could tell how lonely and isolated he felt. Now that I'm older and I've met people like that irl a few times, I can see how Toby's issues are somewhat self imposed; he's entitled and assuming with women, which makes them rightly uncomfortable around him; he's reclusive which makes him hard to make friends with; and although i think everyone in the office should have treated him like a PERSON (Michael straight up abused him on the daily and everyone pretty much ignored it) he chose to create these ridiculous fantasies in his head about women he wasn't even that close with, and instead of standing up for himself took out all his rage by becoming the scranton strangler lol.
I don’t think Jim realized what a fist bump is. Because he asked if it’s a new thing. Also Jim totally has a right to not like Toby bc he clearly hits on Pam in creepy ways alllll the time
I feel that Toby - like many of the characters during late season 7 onward - was unfortunately flanderized to where the point of his character was lost. Toby was the straight man of the series - the archetype of the boring HR worker in an office. Was he socially awkward and quiet? Yes. But he was never meant to be the creep that the last two seasons portrayed him as. The show should've ended after Michael left, as it became evident that the crew couldn't write everyone without him there.
The way he emphasized the word 'here' in that line. Like he's immediately calculating whether he should run home to get a camera, or to the closest store to buy one lol
maybe its just me but I don’t like how they made toby an ACTUAL weirdo. like yeah he was always weird, the pam knee thing is weird and crossinf boundaries, but I interpret that as toby just being awkward and out of touch. He’s striaght up a weirdo in later seasons, like how he is with nelly. I will admit, i think weirdo toby is funny. but the Michael hating Toby thing is funnier when it’s just blind hatred rooted in nothing. its funnier to see michael pick on some normal awkward dude then to see him pick on an actual weirdo who deserves it.
I think Toby put up with Michael's constant cruelty and insults because he understood him psychologically on some deep level. Seriously Michael is so hateful to him and 95% of it seems to roll off his shoulder. That and his whole 'mild-mannered' act allowed him to not be suspected for his...other activities.
While later episodes of the Office make him super creepy, I do feel bad for Toby throughout like the first 6 seasons. Dude can't seem to catch a break.
I don't know if I'm reading her subtle reactions correctly, but Pam never really had a complete negative reaction to Toby's quirks, especially with the leg-touching scene. Maybe a bit uncomfortable but never completely rejected him. This sort of plays into how she's always had a bit of a thing for Toby. It's nothing serious, but she has mentioned how she thought he was cute. I think it's an interesting play on their friendship.
Damnit 😂 He won the room over and lost it in 3 seconds. That leg rub was just the most Awkward thing. But I for one think he saved it with the fence hopping, it'd showed he understood he messed up a bit.

I don’t think it really is that Toby is creepy. I think he is just really really unhappy, and remember that the meta narrative is this a documentary; so he is probably constantly uncomfortable.
Doesn't mean you should sympathesize with him. We were all like him at one point, but right now when I look at the past I cringe out so bad. I realised maybe this was the reason why no one would socialize with me. Toby needs to change himself.
The original point of Toby was more about showing what a delusional jerk MICHAEL was, having such vitriol against someone who Michael believed was trying to ruin the "fun" of the office, when the poor guy was just doing his job. Gradually, as they decided to make Michael a more sympathetic (if still deeply flawed) man, the writers ensured that the audience felt the same way about Toby that Michael did.
