Sand would ruin their teeth and actually eating it can kill you.

@@SweetMelaninn it's not down to a quantifiable number or weight. It gets stuck in your intestines and can cause a blockage. If it causes a blockage you won't be able to poop. If you can't poop you will die. Not to mention the impurities in sand that are not safe to eat. You can get parasites, infections, ulcers, and internal lacerations that cause bleeding (which can also become infected.) Just please don't eat sand. It's inedible.
