Wow! What a great sound - Very Alex Chilton with a little Kinks, Byrds, GBV in the mix. I love that it clocks in at under 3 minutes. The perfect pop song length and boy does it leave you wanting more. As all the good ones do...
Been listening to a lot of Emmett Kelly's back catalog. The Cairo Gang etc. He's an incredible musician/songwriter as they are all. Really looking forward to this album.
@@Marco-mv2wp To be fair. There’s a couple of great Malkmus songs. And a couple of average ones. I’m more of a pavement fan than a jicks fan. I wish he’d go back to more of a pavement style. That angular jicks thing where he’s vocals follow lead runs is kind of boring. I’m new to Emmett and Sweeney. And their tracks have blown me away. Particularly hometown boy. What a track. Give him more
@@lockyp204 If you're new to Emmett, be sure to listen to The Cairo Gang. You'll be blown away. I was expecting more of Emmett's singing on the album, unfortunately, there's only 2 songs. To me, best 2 songs in the whole album are sung by Matt: "It suits you" and "Killed by Death".
Byrds meets Alex Chilton and Wilco. I have always felt that Tweedy was highly influenced by "Big Star". Have loved Mr. Malkmus in all his incarnations for decades; coolest cat (along with the Mael brothers) on the planet. This is just great!
I get the big star stuff but it’s doing Emmett dirty. This is the best pop song of the year and it’s a beautiful tale of your friendly local heroin addict
@@simplypodly there are different degrees of his boredom. I'd put this somewhere between the first verse of "Unfair" (less bored) and playing "Kennel District" (more bored).
If you think this song is good, check out Emmett’s album Untouchable. Significantly better than his contributions to this HQ album, to my ears anyway. The rest of this HQ album is wonderful.
@@lockyp204 More the chord sequence before the singing starts and the playing style in general. The little bit before the singing starts is quite similar to sun. The 'sun sun sun here we come' bit
Robert Palmer is risen to picket this show due to feeling ripped off. Unfortunately I had to break the news that this video is not live, only lifelike.
I love hearing Emmett Kelly take the lead here - if you're digging it, be sure to listen to his project from a decade ago, the Cairo Gang
Big Star-vibes, especially the singing!
Looking forward to the album...❤

Nothing like seeing the most passionate musicians come together & make something so beautiful and not losing themselves and styles. I’m so happy.
@@ThatWomanClark done for the right reasons
Lovely. Big Star, and very Byrds. Oh no, they are living legends by themselves!
My favorite song of 2024! I really love it.

Thank you for making this music. It means so much in this day and age.
OH MY GOD
This is shaping up to be an all time great album
this is gonna be a really good album innit
Another smash, Matt. You guys kill it
I wasn't so sure about the first single. Liked the second one quite a bit. LOVE this one. They just keep getting better.
Same here. I hope the Malkmus Songs on this album don't fall off, which feels strange as I usually like his music.

This is a damn good rock and roll band!
Holy shit - this is incredible.
Shaping up to be an amazing band. Fresh.
Well if this doesn't confirm this as a shoe in for album of the year I don't know what will.
I stumbled on this looking for ska. I love it
Best yet!👏
Malkmus in this video reminded me a bit of Bradford Cox, which is cool cause they're both beautiful and I love em
Cannot wait for the full album ❤
great singing
Gold sounds! Very foxy, definitely has function.
Yes. Great!
It’s so good
This rules.

Great song. To me the clearest comparison is 'Here Comes the Sun'!
A hometown is good in a natural standing, supernatural people understand supernaturally.
Have to go into the office tomorrow, but now I'm pumped for the Webster Hall show I just found! Very Big Star and GBV, loving it!
It will go 'homeeeetoowwwn hoooome'
This sounds really good. Solid stuff, HQ!
I’m getting a lot of “Traffic” vibes from HQ! ✌🏻🖤🐺
Guided by Voices vibes
Best of Jill Hives

Nice Schuba's shoutout!
Couldn’t have said it better myself
Banger of bangers
malk on bass!
He looks a little bored! I like the tune, though.
@jasonsmith6092 this is hilarious to me bcos malk always looks bored. Thats like.. his thing
@@simplypodly there are different degrees of his boredom. I'd put this somewhere between the first verse of "Unfair" (less bored) and playing "Kennel District" (more bored).
yeah baby!
Good stuff
Jim White wondering how he can confuse the rhythm into singularity. Nice tune.
Great stuff!
oh man i love it
You should play in wales
Wales is nice this time of the year
Okay, book it.
Cymru am byth
Yeah, or why not Stockholm?
Yes! And I'm not even close to Wales!
Ordered the coloured vinyl
The Pickless Pickers
damn . . . good
WOW nice guys, a little CSNY and Smitherrens sound!
I would have bought the album anyway, but now I have a good reason !
Malkmus McCartney on the bass guitar
Hard.
Dig it!👍
Sounds like Big Star
goddamn this song is the best
BS
This deserves the Teenage Fanclub award for achievement in Big Star immitation.
Oh, go back to bed.
Yeah think it goes further back than that. Not like teenage were originators either. Anyway
Seriously Marshall, if you're going to drop names, at least get the band right. It's The Kinks.
Whatever, Marshall. Be happy that someone is still writing music like this in 2024...
Reminds me of Gene Clark and the Byrds a bit.❤
Also how Matt takes that solo just to the precipice of cheesedick territory and pulls back. That’s what you get with a wise journeyman
Goddamn this is so good.
Love the sound. Raw in a pixies kind of way.
🕺 💃
lol great stuff
Byrdsy
Mucho ADN
Great song. Is there no bass in this song/band, or is that what Malkmus is playing? I seriously can't tell. I think I hear bass...
Hmmmm. Good sound. Teenage fanclub overtones aint no bad thing
If you think this song is good, check out Emmett’s album Untouchable. Significantly better than his contributions to this HQ album, to my ears anyway. The rest of this HQ album is wonderful.
I think I prefer Goes Missing and The Corner Man, but all of his Cairo Gang work is second to none. Love Emmett's songwriting!
This is literally just Here Comes The Sun. How can anyone think otherwise?
Dang
omg
i mean, seriously
Soooo tasty!
malkmus is playing the bass?
Awesome! It's a shame 'Keith' doesn't shake hands with the person next to him when setting down.
Do the Band of Outsiders still shlep around Trump York?
This Band of Outsiders?!? My uncle was the drummer

Box of Rain?
Nah, Better than The Dead ;)
choice cut
Here comes the sun?
Definitely hear it in that one Guitar Bridge. But isn't the majority of Rock Music referencing the Beatles in one way or another?
hah yes this is what I said :P
It's probably intentional as this album seems to be giving nods to various bands (the Stones one wasn't subtle obviously)
Don’t hear any arpeggios 🤷♂️ Definitely 60s influenced

I’m hearing lots of Beatles in the mix
🫠
I dunno

I mean they are not currently playing the video right now.
Might as well face it you’re addicted to Bob
Kinda Kinky
Mmmm, kinda kinky 🤤
