Really helpful....i had ques in my exam..can u answer..? if the specific volume of the polymer is decreased..what happens to the degree of crystallanity.? A) increases B)Decreases C) No change
We are not able to upload video on this topic anytime soon but we will be happy to help you if you need information or clarification on any aspect of polymer solution.
Ma'am I am working as a Process Engineer on an Blown Film Extrusion line. Can you please guide me how to predict crystallization temperature of a Polymer grade. On what factors does the Tc of a Polymer depends??
DSC is the most used technique to determine crystallization temperature of a polymer. Tc of a polymer depends on molecular weight, polymer architecture, heating rate, cooling rate, impurities and additive present in the polymer.
In case of step growth polymerization, molecular weight strongly depends on percentage conversion since high molecular weight is achieved only at very high conversion. To obtain polymer with desired molecular weight, polymerization condition need to be optimized by monitoring the change in molecular weight over reaction time. NMR and GPC can be used to monitor conversion of monomer into polymer also average degree of polymerization. Other ways to obtain polymer with desired molecular weight are by controlling the stoichiometry of the monomers and also by adding chain stopper. In case of chain growth polymerization, at very high conversion molecular weight depends on the ratio of initiator and monomer. Initiator efficiency needs to be considered while calculating the ratio. In chain polymerization, the reaction mixer consist of polymer chain with high molecular weight, monomers and oligomers but only at higher percentage conversion majority of polymer chain achieves high molecular weight. Therefore, monomer to polymer conversion at specific reaction condition should be monitored using NMR and/or GPC to achieve polymer with desired molecular weight. Since the molecular weight of a polymer depends on temperature, time, chain transfer agent, initiator and stoichiometry. The key to get controlled molecular weight is to monitor the molecular weight at specific reaction conditions.
I dissoluted PET polymer in some solvent and obtained crystal of PET via addition of bad solvent/water. I obtained some powdery crystals of PET. should they be powdery? Can you route me to a source to understand the chemistry behind all this?
Recrystallization is a common method to purify and recycle PET. The physical form of recrystallize material will depend upon extent of crystallization and chemical composition of the solvent. Based on the information that you provided it appears that either you are getting a highly crystalline PET (single crystal grains) or terephthalic acid (white crystalline powder). I will suggest to perform DSC and FTIR analysis to determine the % crystallinity and chemical nature of the material. Highly crystalline polymers such as PET can appear as powdery material. Common PET is around 50% crystalline (individual crystals are connected by flexible amorphous chains), therefore it appear translucent and flexible.
बहुत ही नपे तुले शब्दो में पूरा क्रिस्टलाइजेशन प्रोसेस समझाया है ,, वो भी को-रिलेशन के साथ - धन्यवाद मैडम ।।
Thanks for watching our videos and your feedback.
Even though it is in Hindi and I do not understand the language, still it is the best lecture in the topic polymer crystallinity!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for the feedback and inspiring comment. This lecture is also available in English. Click here to watch ua-cam.com/video/El_7SY-q9WQ/v-deo.html
Very interesting lecture on crystallinity, thank you for giving knowledge
Glad it was helpful!

Will this ppt be available????
Thanks for crisp concept.
Thanks for the feedback.
Mam morphology of crystalline structure me yhi topic aayega kya
Haan..ye topic bhi crystal morphology me aata hai
Really helpful....i had ques in my exam..can u answer..?
if the specific volume of the polymer is decreased..what happens to the degree of
crystallanity.? A) increases B)Decreases C) No change
As crystalline form is a more compact form, specific volume will decrease with increasing crystallinity.
