I have been looking everywhere for something like this!! I work at a veterinarian hospital, and we have some pretty scared/sick kitties who could benefit from this. Also, shelter kitties would love this!!
You can put plastic canvas inside it to hold it up, thats what im going to do, im making this for my bird. A crochet bird house, thank you for the wonderful video Crystal !!!
Thank you. I started last week and finished it tonight. I have a cat (not mine) and he's living under my stairs. So I'm going to set it up for him and hoping he uses it 😊😊😊
I am glad I read the comments before getting to far into this project. It seems a lot of people are having a problem having the cat bed stand up on it's own. I decided to go down in the hook size hoping that will help me so my bed stands upright. I first went to an 8 but that didnt seem to be good enough so now I'm using a size 6 hook and it's making a huge difference!!! Hope this helps someone out!! I will comment when I am totally done to let y'all know if it worked out or if I had to find another way. Cheers!
Are you using 4 strands of different yarns like Crystal did, or did you use a chunky/bulky yarn? I want to use the Cobblestone yarn that is a 6-weight yarn, but I don't know if it's equivalenr to her 4 strands of yarn. I'd like to know what those 4 yarns are equivalent to being used together.
So I made it and got some plastic needlepoint canvas. Sewed 3 sheets to the inside walls and 2 smaller strips on top and bottom of doorway. Came out great cats jumped right in🐈
My Emma likes to hide in dark places to nap..which is like 17 hours of the day! She may get this from Santa Claws this year! Thank you for sharing this!
Your kitty looks like my newest kitten koi she's a tuxedo and happens to have markings that look like a koi fish LOL so I named her koi plus I have a ginger kitten who's a boy obviously his name is Nikos and I have a 14-year-old cat named Momo short for Massimo I'm going to be very busy for a while I think they would all love these cat house beds LOL
I thank you very very much for your generosity and excellent tutorial. I live in Québec Canada and our winters are quite cold. A few wild cats live outside and they sleep on chairs on my porch! Your cat bed is quite welcome! Merci encore! Lynn :)
I just made this. I used up all of my little balls of yarn and single skeins that I wasn't planning on using on anything. I got a very unique looking bed!! I sewed in a lining and put fiberfil between the bed and the lining. It is so cool looking. thank you so much for this tutorial!
finally finishing this cat bed for Stella. when i started, the yarn was so thick and hard on my arthritic hands. Had to give my thumb time to heal. I cannot wait to see how this turns out. I have 2 cats. maybe i should make it a double cat bed.
I've just gotten back into crocheting, and I'm loving your channel! I'm going to be getting two guinea pigs next month, and I thought it would be nice to make them a little house like this. I'll follow along but adjust it by making fewer rows so that it's the right size for them. Thank you!
Love the pattern thanks, just what I needed for my cat Moe... Can I just mention that if you want to put crocheted wire around the outside ( 2 circular, 1 for top and 1 for bottom, and 4 vertically, evenly spaced in the round) and crochet loops with buttons to the cat bed house, to hold it into place, it would stand easier and can be removed for washing. I found this ( google... Crochet over wire to achieve a surprising yet lovely result (video) ) helped.
I was not able to get adequate support using wire hangers because my slightly overweight (LOL) cat likes to get on the top of the cat cave. My solution was to use a hack saw to cut off the top section of a tomato cage (cut above the second circular ring so you have a circular ring with three legs). I then weaved the legs down the sides of the cave and tacked the ring to the top of the cave. You can hide the exposed wire by crocheting or slip stitching around it. Madison really loves his cat cave and I really love that you shared this project with us. Many thanks.
Just finished mine and my cat loves it. She likes to be outdoors but it's getting cold and windy. Mine collapses a bit but it works for her to keep the wind from coming through the opening.
I made this and I just shaped a couple wire hangers to the shape of the bed it's really cool an my cat loves it thank you crystal for all your tutorials
Thank you for this tutorial. A tiny Guinea Pig just came into our family so I'm going to attempt a tiny version using 100% cotton yarn so he doesn't get cold in the air conditioning. 🦔
Love to know how to make it stand up, just making the beds at the moment for large cat/small dogs and saw this and thought 'now I can make these for the cats also but how do they stand up' Could you come back and show us please.xxx
This is awesome I'm going to make a few of these, I have 9 toy poodles and they love playing inside things like this.... Thank you so much for all you do, I admire your work
This thing is huge! It has enough room for 6 cats. After 6 rows it collapsed. I have several ideas for frame work to support it. Wish i had known the dimensions before i started it. Hope my cat likes it.
I was really hoping you would show us the part where you inserted the wire/coat hanger to make it stand up as I have no clue how to do that. I don't think I'm going to make this now as I really want it to stand upright. Would it be possible for you to show us? I have made lots of your other projects and you make the tutorials very easy to follow. Thank you xx. Oh wow I have just scrolled down to see if anyone had suggestions and you say your bed has no wire in it and stands up on its own!! So now I will have a go and hope for the best :) xxx
That's why she said to use four yarns at once, she said that would make it sturdy enough to stand on its on. It looks like all four are worsted. I suggest Red Heart worsted bc it's pretty thick. I just made a few things with it and it seems kitty durable.
💖💖💖💖💖 I maked my Kitteh🐱 a Rug.. but..I like this more.. So...I started all over again..& make him.. this.. maybe..I dont need to make his Tent🏕 daily..just maybe 🤣.. Thnx for your beautiful tutorial🌹...
Hi there! I’ve just got back into crocheting again after more than 30 years ! Your tutorial is very easy to understand and I’m whipping one up now out of scraps of blanket chenille I’ve got , for my new kitty coming to live with me this coming weekend! Thank you!!
Love the colors you used! Did u use any wire as you suggested or jus yarn for opening? I'm wanting to make this for my 3 cats. Thanks for all your hard work in these tutorials, I truly appreciate them. You've helped me soo much expand my learning and skill of crocheting. God has truly blessed you as a teacher and you have a kindred spirit. Keep strong Crystal!
this is really great because i just finished the cat beanie tutorial as my first crochet project ever and this uses a similar technique. Project no. 2 perhaps???
An excellent tutorial on making the cat bed, but I was hoping for some help with the end result. My top does not stay up. Everything is flat. Do you have another tutorial to explain how to raise the roof on the cat bed?
18:37 I just finished crocheting the cat house but I haven't put the bottom on yet. It turned out good but just flimsy. The walls dont want to stand right. Need some idea on what I can use to fix that. Thanks
It looks like four worsted yarns crocheted together as one stand, making hers thick enough to stand up. I just made a few cat things with Red Heart worsted with a single and it is pretty thick, so I imagine four strands of it, I suggest the Red Heart worsted super saver skeins.
Thanks so much for sharing , I just finished mine and I think it looks great I hope my "grand"kitty likes it I'm giving it to him on Christmas...LOL...again Thanks Crystal
Not sure how you got yours to stand but the one I made has no shape can you pleas explain how. I tried a wire hanger no luck so what do you suggest please!! I really want to finish this project!!
How much total yarn will be required to make this? I'm going to be using Patons Cobble 6-weight yarn to make it, but I need to know if I will have enough. I bought 4 skeins of it. I don't want to buy more if it won't require more than that, because I won't be using this yarn for anything else. I bought it strictly to use to make a cat cave.
Great idea!! I love this!! You mentioned your hands hurting...have you thought about making or buying a gel grip for your hook? I make mine on a spool loom and they are wonderful for aching fingers/hands :)
I have made almost everything you have showed me you are a good teacher
I have been looking everywhere for something like this!! I work at a veterinarian hospital, and we have some pretty scared/sick kitties who could benefit from this. Also, shelter kitties would love this!!
Yes I'd like to nake some for my daughters Foster kitties
I made this about two years ago for my bestie she loved it and so did kitty 🐱🌻🌻🌻
You can put plastic canvas inside it to hold it up, thats what im going to do, im making this for my bird. A crochet bird house, thank you for the wonderful video Crystal !!!
Thank you to bag O'Day crochet I've learned so much from you and I save all your videos that I enjoy
Thank you. I started last week and finished it tonight. I have a cat (not mine) and he's living under my stairs. So I'm going to set it up for him and hoping he uses it 😊😊😊

I too wanna know if the kitty used it

No more wiiirrre hangerrrrrss!
I made it. It was really quick. My cat Opal had not left it very much. I have never seen a cat love something so much.
How did you keep it up?
Really quick! Hah! It is a really time-consuming project, but I'm working on it. I will adopt a ginger cat! :)
Just finished, thanks! Looks great, my cat loves it. To give it a bit more support I added circular dowels around.
Just finished mine and my cat loves it. She likes to be outdoors but it's getting cold and windy. Mine collapses a bit but it works for her to keep the wind from coming through the opening.
I wish you had shown how to put the hanger in.. to make it stand up like that but thanks for the tutorial, will defintely be doing this 😊
You’re a sculptor. An artist. Well done.
You are so easy to follow! I love how you teach!

You make it look so easy using four strands!
Thank you this is amazing and i did work with you all the way. I just make it bigger for may doggie baby

I made this and my cats love it I used thick cardboard on the inside to make it stand up
Can u explain where u placed the cardboard inside of it? Thx!!
Teresa Hammond can u explain how u put the cardboard inside? Like did you put it all around the inside of it? Thnx!
Please let us know how you used cardboard
Is Cardboard suitable? If the Cat Cave gets wet, can you wash it?
Going to try it for my rabbit...
This is so cool!! Well now I need to go get more yarn. My kitty would love this
Just what i was looking for ! Thank you so much ! Hello from France :)

That is so cool looking! Our cats would love something like that… going to make a couple as soon as I get more yarn ❤️ thanks!
amazing thank you so much . just what I've been looking for
Im definitely going to try this thank u
It looks like four worsted yarns crocheted together as one stand, making hers thick enough to stand up. I just made a few cat things with Red Heart worsted with a single and it is pretty thick, so I imagine four strands of it, I suggest the Red Heart worsted super saver skeins.
Thank you so much love it great idea x
I love this video , I need to make another one of these for the newest addition to the family unit .:)
What a great idea, thank you!
Buy some flexible, plastic cutting boards from Dollar Tree and cut them to fit to hold this in shape
another great idea, l´m sure the local cat shelter could do with some of these...
Your videos are great & super helpful! :) Thank you for this free pattern!
Thank you iunderstand very well thanks
Thanks so much for sharing , I just finished mine and I think it looks great I hope my "grand"kitty likes it I'm giving it to him on Christmas...LOL...again Thanks Crystal
Will be making this in 2021.
What is an equivalent yarn to use.. I don't like using multiple strands?
6 or 7 weight
Thank you
I love this. so easy great as always. my hands hurt too lol.
Not sure how you got yours to stand but the one I made has no shape can you pleas explain how. I tried a wire hanger no luck so what do you suggest please!! I really want to finish this project!!
Did you get it standing?
I will be making this shortly also. Being we have 4 cats I know 1 of them will use. it.
Ai like this very much thanks
How freakin awesome!! I can't wait to make one for our kitty!! Good job as always.
Just came across this. Could cord be used to make this instead of yarn?
Would one strand of Bernat Baby Blanket yarn work? It's quite thick
Need to know how you make it stand stiff. That would have been the most helpful.
if you use chunky yarn will it count as 4 strands?
Do you have a written pattern I can print for this one?
How many skeins of yarn did you use? Did you need to connect 4 more ?
Love the cat house but how is it going to stand up and not lay flat
Could I use the Bernat blanket yarn for this?
How did you get it to stand up?
How much total yarn will be required to make this? I'm going to be using Patons Cobble 6-weight yarn to make it, but I need to know if I will have enough. I bought 4 skeins of it. I know this is old but I so hope you get this message. What size yarns are you using Crystal, I can't tell from just looking at it.
Very nice
