I think he was trying to use the package for cover, since there was nothing available for cover other than the concealment of the smokes.

Understandable reason, but try to pass a few minutes before starting a match in the shooting range in training . Slowly you pick up. I've almost quit the game, cause on console there are too many cronus/etc... but couple of good matches sometimes its make fell satisfied

Yes, training and TDM modes help a lot ....think about it this way, in actual BR mode, you maybe have a handful of chances to actually shoot your gun....you are never going to become familiar with the recoil patterns if you don't shoot your guns....you can do this 10× or 20× as much in those other modes in the the same period of time as 1 BR match....
I just play pubg again after 5 years.

This is exactly how i always play, i camp any tall tower, usually using the glider to parachute up to tall structures, (only one i need e-pickup is the tall radio tower above the observatory ontop of military base in erangle)
I do the same thing. I play duos with a friend that can’t land on anything to save his life. I love sniping from the tall peeks on Rondo.

This is how every single TPP person plays on console every single game. They play like it's real life or there's a million dollars on the line. TPP may be hooked in to the matrix or something & I just haven't gotten the memo. If they die in game they die in real life maybe? It's unbearable I know that.
It's because people love being able to third person peek corners, but they're afraid they will get peeked. So they camp.
