  • I needed shelter from the rain, sun and bugs so I built out a soft top dodger along with the custom screen and hatch (previous video). It was about 5 days start to finish build time.

Thank you. My next mono hull will most likely have this set up too. it worked great. I enjoy the sunshine and rain, but too much of a good thing can be uncomfortable.

I sail the original version of your boat -- the Starwind 19. Same molds.
Really enjoyed seeing what you did with yours. I have many years of sailing on mine --- it's a 1982 and still looks amazing and is no racer, but great in high winds and does everything well.

Precision sailed great. It was a bit cramped in the little cabin, but I made it work. It can be noisy in the cabin if there is chop. I definitely learned how to do some things with the boat. Hoping to upgrade to a 30+ footer this fall.

      @@zackariasthepirate wow! A 30 is a lot of boat! I'd love at least a 25-28.
I moved to TN and only lake sail now. I looked through your videos and we have a lot in common. Many similar interests and diy projects. I'm just finishing a van conversion for an upcoming adventure. I'd love to take off in a sailboat for a time....but don't know if it will happen.

@@grandpasmountain I just wrote a three paragraph reply but my laptop erased it...... In short ill type it again... Van life is worth it but can take commitment to see through a comfortable existence. Working full or even part time living in a van or boat is difficult. The sweet spot is self employed or time off. Waking up without a commute etc. It's satisfying and can be an interesting life. It's funny how just being out in the world outside of a house or apartment seems to open so many doors.

@@grandpasmountain Not sure why my replays keep getting erased.... I typed two others let's see if this goes through.... Van life can be an interesting existence. I find that working full or part time while living in a van or boat can be hard. The best I think is self employed or off time. Living unconventionally can provide a more broad outlook on life that living indoors doesn't offer. Thanks for watching!

I only carry 3 tool boxes. I recently bought the fancy folding table saw, which is way too big but nice to have. The dodger seems to work well so far., regardless of how strong the wind gets. I was really pleased with how it creates a good size shield from the wind. I havent had rain on it yet. It does keep the bugs out. To sail i need the weather to be a little more mellow. Its been really crazy past few weeks, and with such a shallow bottom, i need to take it easy first few times out. Hopefully in the next few weeks. Too bad my job starts so soon...

HI HOW YOU INSTALL BOOM VANG ,GOOD IDEA WITH DODGER.

I did away with the boom vang on it while the Dodher was on.. I could have made a big notch in the Dodger and used the boomvang. The mainsheet and down haul were enough to keep the boom in check. But yes safety first is better. The Dodger keeping out the rain, bugs and providing adequate airflow was my priority. It was great for all that.

Good how it does the job you intended it to do, and it looks real smart on her hatch.
