Suggestion: whenever you finish a challenge/project in the book write a couple of notes in the margin next to pattern and date it. This will give you sort of a work diary, and it will remind you of how much fun this has been for you and your followers.
I miss that I dont have pictures of the fineshed projects I have done so far...becouse some came out pretty good. But I will never be able to repeat them becouse mostly I wing it and don't work with one particular pattern...and I really forget to write down what I did. I work on some projects ad the same time and when I have an idea I am creating the next project in my head. I really try to write it down.
double, treble, toil and trouble work turn and work crumple fillet crochet, oh fruitcake In the pattern we try to create eye eye eye, and now we frog bedspread cotton and barking dog a new hook and post it guide slip stitch or single I spied? for a charming bauble, and many treble like they had a single or treble? double double treble and trouble work turn and work cumble cool it with many a fringe surely they will not infringe. Happy Halloween!
That's a handsome edging! Flip and Pick Challenge sounds good to me. On the joining of the little square motifs, you completed the second motif, then slip stitched over to join to the first. I interpreted the instructions as meaning that you should do the joining as part of the last row of the second motif. That would place the join in the center of the 6-treble group: you'd single crochet in the first 3, chain and join, then continue with the next 3 singles. This would also offer you the opportunity to slip stitch the corners together if you wanted.
i found your channel bu accident, one of your vintage mistery vids popped up in my feed, i watched it, and i was hooked (pun slightly intended :D ) i have watched almost all of your mystery crochet vids, and i must say, i love them! Cant wait to watch the rest of your vids on this channel. As an avid crocheter/knitter myself, i love learning new things and old things, I am Dutch myself., so i started learning patterns in Dutch, but then learned through youtube, and i know both US and modern UK terms, so i can understand how you can get confused, cause when i first started out i was like... ' what does this all mean' , but watching your video's has brought me much joy, and much more know-how! Thank you so much for what you do
The pattern (starts in the 4th line of the text) says: Work another small square in the same manner, AND IN DOING THE LAST ROUND JOIN it from above the centre of the six long treble stitches by 5 chain to the corresponding place on the FIRST square, 9 chain, and continue.....😘 And ty for this realy nice edging. I love your videos. Hugs from Vienna (Austria) Sabine
Line 7 and 8 the joining of the squares is added part of the single crochet round so the 5 chain and the 9 chain and joining at the corner is all in that second round of the second square.
Took me a while to figure this out but here's how I interpret the wordiness of the pattern. First the phrase "in doing the last round" means to do the following things as part of the last round of the squares (the single crochets), not after the last round is finished. Meaning start doing single crochets, do the 5-chain, 9- chain triangle, then continue doing the single crochets around. Also, a comma may have helped clear up the joined corners. It should say, "continue the (single) crochet COMMA joining by a (slip stitch) to the first square corner ways." Again, you would do that as part of the last round of the squares and then continue around to finish the round. Thoughts?
That was so cute ❤ we need to start putting these beautiful borders on our towels and pillowcases and sheets as our previous generations did. Beautify our homes! Never mind all this mass produced stuff! More crafting and less TV!
I REALLY love the mystery videos so I'll never get tired of those, but I really like this type as well. For me hearing you figure it out has really helped me tackle some things I normally wouldn't. Crystal from bag o day has that quality as well. You all inspire confidence and help us realize we're all over here capable of more and we're all trying to figure things out! If that makes sense.
Needed some edging inspiration… challenge accepted flipping picking challenge 👏👏 you didn’t die on this Hill… you drove to the top, staked flag and claimed it 🫡 well done as always. That book has lots of great looking challenges 😁
I like this edging. My next brainstorm is using a nice delicate edging worked in worsted weight along the bottom of a sweater in lieu of ribbing. I figure it will either look tacky as hell or absolutely elegant. Lol
I would do this like the pattern says but the second I would join to the first square in the second corner stitch and continue connecting the squares like this. This way you know how many you need if you do the edging for something special.
I know *exactly* what you mean when you said the whole thing about picking a pattern but then not feeling like doing it, I get burned out on crochet a lot too. 😅 Anyway, this was such a creative idea and a fun video to watch! (I loved your outfit by the way!! 😊)
You nailed it. It’s pretty. You are good at figuring out these patterns. I think K suggestion is a good one. I look at crochet and knit things I made when I was young and say to myself I really did that. Keep on challenging yourself. This is great fun for those who watch. Take care and have a blessed week.
I love the Mysteries, but this was great, too! I like the figuring out of these old patterns. I would vote for the “long treble” being an “extended double crochet stitch”.
This was fun! My first thought when you said you'd landed on both the gentleman's smoking cap and the edging was, "Ooo. A gentleman's smoking cap with a decorative edging!"
It's a cool idea with flipping and picking ! And whow.....what wonderful patterns are in that book. I love the viola and the rose pattern . GREAT!!! And also this ladys over boots look cool . Is there a way that you show the Pattern? 🙏🙏🙏 Thank you Corinna for your way of working and your humor ! 🌻🌻
Love your new Flippin' Pickin' challenge format! Very pretty little edging. I didn't see/hear anything that you missed in the pattern. But I was thinking "join as you go" might be the way to go. Wonder when that way of joining was first used? If the bottom edges of your doily curtains are even, maybe you should find a pretty edging to add to them? Would make a fun tutorial. Really like your head scarf. Looks very comfortable! Thank you for giving us another excellent fun tutorial!
I have missed you so much!!! I can’t just sit and watch right now because I’m getting ready for church but now I have something to look forward to when I get home!!!! ♥️
So the moment you were supposed to join was when you did the second square. Essentially you were supposed to do the first round of the square and when doing the round of single crochets, you were supposed to start the single crochets, when you arrive at the middle of the 6 trebles, you do the chain triangle thing, then continue the round of single crochets. When you arrive at the corner, you join the second square with the first one with a slip stitch (I think) and finally finish the round of single crochets. To be fair, it took me a long while to understand it, the text was not clear but if you look in the pattern, they call it "joining cornerways" 😊
You did it again! I knew you’d figure this out and I don’t think you did a single thing wrong. I admire your ability to figure out these old patterns. Please, please do that boot covering!!! I need something like that to wear over my feet at church, lol!
You could attach the squares if you wanted. That's a pretty edging. I tried getting this book & it wasn't available. The Flippin' Pickin' Challenge....love it. I love that yoke across from the satchel you made.
I know another challenge for you: Your struggle is my pleasure I have a pattern (an insert, a medallion), that I would love to do, but I struggle with the leaves of a flower in the middle. I would love to see your take on that.
That is very pretty. Must try this one myself. It's such a joy to flip through that book. I take out my copy and just enjoy it all, without wanting to try all of it out. Am happy you're enjoying it too.
My Mom was from the pacific Islands and she would crochet and tat when I was a child... she never taught me to do either one ,,I am a self taught crochet & knit person..however crochet is my preference.. but to let you know she did use crochet thread to tat... the only thing you would need is the shuttle...which you put the thread on and weave it per your pattern...unfortunately the only pattern I remember her doing was a pineapple design and spider web design.. just wanted you to know I would rather loom my weaving rather than tat...love your tutorials and your positive outlook !!! Thank you so much for inspiring me to do more crochet work for my family
i just started crocheting in the past month and stumbled across your channel while looking for crochet tutorials, these videos are so fun and make me excited to grow my skillset over a lifetime
Hi, Vintage crocheter, that is a nice and different approach than your last way of choosing a pattern, i can see the time saving way of choosing from the book. My idea would be to write the page # of each starting pattern, on a piece of paper( a little bit of work, but once the page # is written, randomly pick one, go to the page in the book). The pattern is already documented, no cutting out, or writing out the pattern. Your way is just fine though. A little different perspective. 😊 see ya on the tube.
Great video! I'm always impressed by your crocheting technique. You are confident in controlling the tension, yet you wrap your thread around your pinkie only once! Very impressive. I wrap twice around my pinkie in order to get anywhere near your style and grace. Needless to say, crochet on, girlfriend, and inspire even the veterans among us!
I think a US stitch is named for the number of times you have to pull the yarn through the hoops on the hook (not including the initial yarn over and pull through), and UK terms are based on the number of loops on the hook after setting up the stitch (yarn over and pull through). For example, a double crochet - the term means to have 2 loops on the hook before completing the stitch in UK terms (which makes a US single crochet), whereas the double crochet term means to "pull through two" twice to make the full stitch in US terms. Idk if that makes any sense to anyone else, but it makes sense to me. 😂
Great job on the pattern 💯 is beautiful 😍 as for the corner joining maybe that's what it means when it says join in the cornerways before the heading first row starts 🤷 totally just a guess, I have never worked a fancy edging before and no vintage patterns. You do a great job making videos 😊
I think you nailed it. I think I would have while sewing in the ends worked it over to connect the squares. I think it would be better connected. I love this challenge! I would like to see the Irish crochet. I have a book of Irish knitting patterns. Have you ever done Tunisian crochet?
I have done tunisian crochet, but only basic stitches, I have one tunisian crochet pattern on here ( but it was called Tricot in Victorian times) here is the link ua-cam.com/video/BSTvRVmVVeo/v-deo.html
Made a cross over from that book and love it! Tried to make the hunting/shooting hat and yeah not fitting too small. My sister and i both had to puzzle that hat to get that far.
This is something very different from most items which are for ladies. I know a scarf is good for men and women, this hat is definitely for the guys. A interesting possible Chanukkah/Christmas gift!
I think that "chain 9, and continue the double crochet joining by a single crochet to the first square cornerways" meant that you were supposed to chain 9, join with a (US) single like you did, but instead of fastening off, you continue slipstitching your way to the corner and then slipstitch join the to corners together (and fasten off) - not absolutely convinced I'm right though
I have made “tall dc” or “long dc” stitches in projects when a treble was a little too tall and dc was too short: Yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw lp through, yo making a ch st, then proceed as you would a regular dc. Maybe the “long treble” is made the same way?
How fun! This is a great idea! As always! Had some family problems, so I couldn’t watch videos for a bit, so I’m finally catching up on your channel! Love this!❤
So, I don't see where you missed anything. I'm betting the original pattern writer assumes blocking and starching will fix the wibbly-wobbly corners? Oh, how I wish I had crochet books... whatta terrific idea! Lately I've been in a weird mental situation where I want to make every pattern I come across on YT and websites (so plenty of crojo?), but when I get 3 or 4 rows in, m'brain yells "naaaahh" and frogging ensues. Can't even get as far as creating a WIP. 😆
I really enjoy getting into and tackling vintage crochet and knitting patterns; therefore, I feel your pain 😄 in working through them --almost like I'm right there with you! After seeing this book on your first video showing it, I searched and snapped up an affordable one on eBay. I am currently crocheting the "Cosy Antimacassar" on page 10, with others sticky noted throughout. Always looking forward to your videos however which way you want to do them --such fun!
okay, don't beat me up cuz I'm just guessing here... just before where you made the little triangles (that you used to attach the squares together) if you look back more closely at the directions (this is the bane of my existence too) you were actually supposed to join the corners - they are the five chain space then I believe your nine chain after that is the beginning of the triangles and if you remember you were supposed to fasten off and cut - which you did not do with the second square and this is probably what didn't make it seem obvious. but connecting the centers of those treble stitches is, i think, to go in between the two that straddle the middle...
Thank you so much for watching! Please hit the " Like" button above if you did like the pattern and Subscribe for Tutorials like this and more! :)
Suggestion: whenever you finish a challenge/project in the book write a couple of notes in the margin next to pattern and date it. This will give you sort of a work diary, and it will remind you of how much fun this has been for you and your followers.
For many years, I've written the dates (start & end) & the name of the person(s) I made the item for on patterns.
I really try to write it down.
double, treble, toil and trouble

In the pattern we try to create

I'm not going to be burned out on your mystery patterns. They give me courage to keep going on harder projects.
I will never get burned out of mystery crochet!

I would have slip stitched in between the 3rd and 4th triple. Then you would be right in the center.
This is the most interesting and engaging crochet channel! I love your unique style, and i love learning new things. I'm addicted 😊❤
Thank you so much!
YES...me, too. I almost canceled a call from a friend as I saw the noticed😁 (did not, I am addicted, not crazy😉)
The pattern (starts in the 4th line of the text) says: Work another small square in the same manner, AND IN DOING THE LAST ROUND JOIN it from above the centre of the six long treble stitches by 5 chain to the corresponding place on the FIRST square, 9 chain, and continue.....😘 And ty for this realy nice edging. haha, I love that , Thank you ! :)
Your scarf looks so good on you. I get vintage vibes from it. I immediately thought. "I Love Lucy" in the best possible way😃
Love that!
You'll never burn me out on the mysteries I loveee those videos! I re-watch them all the time while I'm crocheting
LOL you are just joyful and always make me smile.. The Flippin Pickin challenge sounds perfect! x
I like this edging. My next brainstorm is using a nice delicate edging worked in worsted weight along the bottom of a sweater in lieu of ribbing. I figure it will either look tacky as hell or absolutely elegant. Lol
I squealed so loud when the notification for this popped up 🤣 So exciting!!
Yay! Thank you!
Same!
Every time!
I would do this like the pattern says but the second I would join to the first square in the second corner stitch and continue connecting the squares like this. This way you know how many you need if you do the edging for something special.
I love your joy by doing theese "unknown" pattern. It is so great to watsch and find out with you.
Oh thank you!
I think Flippin’ Pickin’ Challenge is a great name for this challenge. Love it.
I know *exactly* what you mean when you said the whole thing about picking a pattern but then not feeling like doing it, I get burned out on crochet a lot too. 😅
Anyway, this was such a creative idea and a fun video to watch!

Fun video, that book is a treasure trove , can't wait to see another flippin' pickin' challenge 😊
Just woke up and here you are. Another great fun video. Thank you.
lol. I was hoping you picked the Ladies Overboot
I like the flip & pick 🧶🤣
Thank you lovely lady. I love your channels. Your the best Corinna!! 😊❤
Thank you so much!
Wow, that was fun getting to see the images in the book when you flipped through at the end.
You didn't miss anything! You done good! :)
Oh thank you!
I love the Mysteries, but this was great, too! I like the figuring out of these old patterns. I would vote for the “long treble” being an “extended double crochet stitch”.
Hi Corinna- great idea. And very beautiful trim!
Thank you!
Thank you! 😊
Very much fun watching you crochet while I crochet !!😂😂
😊 thank you
This was fun! My first thought when you said you'd landed on both the gentleman's smoking cap and the edging was, "Ooo. A gentleman's smoking cap with a decorative edging!"
Looks like it should have a ribbon woven through it, that would keep them in line and not need to be joined at the corners
I love this pattern. It will look. pretty on a little girl's "special" dress. Thanks for the inspiration. Love your channel.
What a great way to do a “mystery” pattern to just flip and pick, love that name. Thank you
So upset still that the copy I bought was never sent to me (they did refund me). So glad you are doing videos from it!!
This is so fun! I'd love to see how your crochet scrapbook is coming along. ❤
As always You rock the figuring out part !! Like the flip n pick for title , pretty edging !! Thank You !!
It's a cool idea with flipping and picking ! And whow.....what wonderful patterns are in that book. I love the viola and the rose pattern . GREAT!!!
And also this ladys over boots look cool . Is there a way that you show the Pattern? 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Corinna for your way of working and your humor ! 🌻🌻
Thank you, I intend to eventually show all the patterns as I work them :)
Every video you create is amazing. Thank you for sharing your talents! Flippin’ Pickin’ Challenge💕
@@justvintagecrochet Super! Looking forward to it.🥰

Don't accidentally say "PICK 'N FLICK" challenge lol
I really enjoy your work and content. Have an awesome week!
Corinna i just love this channel. Watching you work these patterns amazes me! ❤
Thank you so much!
I have missed you so much!!! I can’t just sit and watch right now because I’m getting ready for church but now I have something to look forward to when I get home!!!! ♥️
I love your mystery videos. I look for a new one everyday! Keep going, I enjoy you so much! ❤❤❤
I liked when you have a drawing or picture.
So the moment you were supposed to join was when you did the second square. Ooooo, I loved the boot pattern! Definitely vote for that one for your do-next project.
You could attach the squares if you wanted. That's a pretty edging. I tried getting this book & it wasn't available.
The Flippin' Pickin' Challenge....love it.
I love that yoke across from the satchel you made.
Sounds great!
I know another challenge for you: Your struggle is my pleasure
I have a pattern (an insert, a medallion), that I would love to do, but I struggle with the leaves of a flower in the middle. I would love to see your take on that.
That is very pretty. Must try this one myself.
It's such a joy to flip through that book. I take out my copy and just enjoy it all, without wanting to try all of it out.
Am happy you're enjoying it too.
Thanks again so so much :)
I really like your mystery pattern they are great, and I love your sweet personality. I know you are a very good person 😊
You could beautify hand towels with your edging! FYI :I will never get tired of mystery crochet videos
I so wanted you to make the smoking cap! Maybe next time? Pretty edging!
Victorian Crochet Flip and pick challenge.
Love the mystery videos sooo much i told my friend about them , but i really liked this flip one too so both are fun in my opinion.
Thank you for your joyful videos and your wonderful sense of hummer I can’t skip any of your videos I’m alaa and following you from Egypt ❤

Your eye sight must be amazing. Love your style....
Oh thank you!
Another awesome tutorial love this newest pattern.
Oh thank you!
Have you looked at Needle Tatting. It is very easy and quick to do. I used wool to make some very interesting bracelets. 👏😎🍀💜
I'll check it out!
I'm thinking maybe join the between blocks with slip stitch of last round of block. before completing the rest? I like Flippin pickin challenge.
Hey hey I think the double trouble is three wraps on the hook if I remember correctly and that was very very pretty
Double treble in UK stitch terms is US treble, all of these patterns are Victorian era UK written patterns :)
What fun,,, so much beauty in that book..👍❤️
That’s a very pretty edging
That was fun ro watch 👏
Also, I love this variation of the mystery patterns. I'll watch both types of videos!
Very pretty!
Love your mystery channel! I have this book, now if only I can find where I put it! Greetings from 🇦🇺❤️😁
I think you nailed it. I think I would have while sewing in the ends worked it over to connect the squares. I think it would be better connected. I love this challenge! I would like to see the Irish crochet. I have a book of Irish knitting patterns. Have you ever done Tunisian crochet?

Sound like fun!!
Awe, so much fun hanging with you no matter what you do. ❤
Made a cross over from that book and love it! Tried to make the hunting/shooting hat and yeah not fitting too small. My sister and i both had to puzzle that hat to get that far.
This was a fun idea. I'm glad you finally decided to refer to the picture!
could you please do the smoking cap. i would love to give it a go.
This is something very different from most items which are for ladies. I know a scarf is good for men and women, this hat is definitely for the guys. A interesting possible Chanukkah/Christmas gift!
I would absolutely love to see the smoking hat (and there's nothing says we ladies can't wear it too)
I think that "chain 9, and continue the double crochet joining by a single crochet to the first square cornerways" meant that you were supposed to chain 9, join with a (US) single like you did, but instead of fastening off, you continue slipstitching your way to the corner and then slipstitch join the to corners together (and fasten off) - not absolutely convinced I'm right though
What do you think about leaving a sticky note with the date that you already did that pattern (challenge)?
I love your enthusiasm! 😊
I have made “tall dc” or “long dc” stitches in projects when a treble was a little too tall and dc was too short:
Yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw lp through, yo making a ch st, then proceed as you would a regular dc.
Maybe the “long treble” is made the same way?
How fun! This is a great idea! As always! Had some family problems, so I couldn’t watch videos for a bit, so I’m finally catching up on your channel!
Love this!❤
This was so much fun. I can't wait for the next one.
I’m thinking a stiffer edging might have been used on pillow edges or on a women’s handkerchief?
The row that said something about cornerways is where the squares are joined.
This was such sweet edging. Well done! Its all a mystery to me😅❣️
Thank you! 😊
I enjoyed your 'flip & pick' challenge. It is pretty. I also really like your scarf turban. Is it made with a square scarf, or a long rectangle one?
thank you! It's a square scarf , I have the long rectangle ones too
I was so excited when I saw this. This was sooo cool to watch. Is this a book you can still buy?
I’m not sure, it was gifted to me
@@justvintagecrochetwe found it used on eBay awhile ago for about $40. !
Beautiful! will love to be able to have the book. where you got that jewel of a book.🤩
It was gifted to me
okay, don't beat me up cuz I'm just guessing here...
just before where you made the little triangles (that you used to attach the squares together) if you look back more closely at the directions (this is the bane of my existence too) you were actually supposed to join the corners - they are the five chain space
then I believe your nine chain after that is the beginning of the triangles
and if you remember you were supposed to fasten off and cut - which you did not do with the second square and this is probably what didn't make it seem obvious.
but connecting the centers of those treble stitches is, i think, to go in between the two that straddle the middle...
"We" could open a book store called Flip n Pick 😂
