How can they market this as half ton towable with a hitch weight of 1770 pounds dry? By the time you load the trailer, add the fifth wheel and the driver you will be over 2200 pounds. Not including additional passengers and any cargo in the tow vehicle.

Yeah that is not gonna work. Even my half ton is rated at the top of its class and it’s only good for 1750. I would never consider this because the hitch weight is too high.
Yeah, this is a 3/4-ton towable not 1/2-ton towable. Your pin weight alone is in the 2400-2640 lb range (12,000# GVWR × 20% or 22%). My 2500 HD would be able to handle this with a 3400 lb payload. Better to have a 3500 HD SRW.
Definitely a 3/4 ton minimum camper.
The crazy thing is I see a lot of people using half tons to pull 5th wheels. I'd never do that.
I think it’s irresponsible to sell this as a half-ton towable camper. The pin weight alone meets or exceeds the carrying capacity of most 1/2 tons. I wound say a loaded trailer would exceed probably all 1/2 tons. This definitely would require a 2/3 ton minimum.

With a tongue weight of 1,770 lbs you are already at the max payload rating of just about every 1/2 T truck before adding any contents to the front of the trailer and before adding any additional payload to the truck as in people, fuel, 5th wheel hitch and cargo in the bed of the truck! Dangerous precedent even suggesting this trailer is 1/2T towable! You'll need a truck with at minimum a payload rating of 2,800 lbs +. There is only one 1/2 T truck that I know of that that has sufficient payload and that is a Ford F150 regular cab long bed 4x2 5.0 !

This is more in the 3/4-ton to 1-ton towable bracket. Even the best 1/2-ton won't have sufficient payload remaining after you put the driver and passengers plus the 5th-wheel hitch in the back to handle the pin weight. I have a 2500 HD with 11,350 GVWR and 3400 lb payload and it could handle this unit but it would be at or near the upper limit after adding my wife and I plus the 5th-wheel hitch to the payload in the truck. The lack of a full arctic/cold-weather insulation package shows this is more of a 3-season unit, not a full 4-season unit (unless you were in Southern Arizona during the winter).
This is false advertisement. It’s not 1/2 ton towable
It is irresponsible to call this a half-ton towable RV. At 1,770 hitch weight dry you are going to exceed the payload capacity of nearly every half ton truck after you add gear and people to the equation and be above 95% of those that were not exceeded. That's dangerous. Know your numbers and don't take the word of any sales person.
It’s a vehicle by vehicle, person by person situation. I should have been more specific in this video of that. I was not at all trying to say any and every half ton can and should tow this fifth wheel.
Just the pin weight alone will exceed most half-tons. I would strongly suggest that you not sell this unit as half-ton capable.
@@mylesrv My max tow F150 has a cargo capacity of 1690. Put my ass in and now its 1490. Put the companion hitch in and we're down to 1420.
We like the way you show all the storage
Anyone who has traveled in an RV knows storage matters! In that unit when I looked at it I thought the kitchen corner (blind corner next to the stove) was wasted space like the area to the left of the sink, as I didn’t notice the small fridge outside. Every nook and cranny matters! And while I don’t mind/care if you open every single drawer, opening a few works, I’m absolutely interested if there’s wasted space as that may indicate other design issues.
I appreciate you showing the storage. I like being able to visualize what and where I can store gear… and my pew pew!! lol
Storage is always important a lot of the time size matters a 12” deep cabinet compared to a 2”-6” deep

Put a pocket door on both Bathroom entrances
And maybe a Nautilus style shower door instead of Glass, that always makes me nervous on a RV.

I appreciate the storage information. We are thinking about going full time so knowing what we will be able to have in storage is very important.
I like the unit however the specs say it sleeps 4. With the free standing dinette and the theater seats I do not see how it can sleep 4.

I like the storage detail as well. To make your videos shorter though, you might want to pull out all of the doors you can get in the shot and show them instead of opening each door one at a time. Just a thought.
I agree. Once you watch 3 videos of any RV you get tired of seeing each drawer and door opened and shut. Have them all pulled out at once, then fade back to them being shut. A small bit of editing but makes a great finished product.

At 1770lbs, what 1/2 ton can tow this without immediately blowing out its payload capacity? I'm calling BS on 1/2 ton towable.

Yes. Nearly all 5th wheels are 4 season.
I think it's interesting that it's not mentioned that when the slide is in there absolutely no access to the refrigerator. Not good when traveling.
Myles, since that is a full profile front cap is the step up into the bedroom eliminated? I couldn't tell from the video.
Are you talking about the steps in the hallway leading up to the bedroom? Because those are not eliminated

This is not even close to being half ton towable. Shame on you for even implying a half ton would have the payload required to handle the hitch weight and have a driver in the tow vehicle.

A properly equipped half-ton truck seems to check out on every metric to be able to tow this fifth wheel.
@@mylesrv Those are not real world numbers. Reading the maximum payload capacities off the Ford website does not apply to the real world. My 2018 F-150 XLT with a 3.5 eco boost and crew cab with max tow pkg. has a payload of 1694 pounds of payload, less than the dry weight of this RV. The real world pin weight of this RV will be around 2400 pounds if you use the calculator to take 20% of the GVW of the RV, which is 8750 (shipping weight) plus 3250 (the cargo capacity) equals 12,000 lbs. You are not being a responsible dealership if you advertise this a half ton towable. This is a 3/4 ton towable at best.
@@scottschermerhorn7040 I'm not saying that any and every half-ton truck can pull it. But there are some half ton trucks when equipped properly that are rated by every metric to be able to tow this. Obviously, if a customer who is legitimately interested in purchasing this has a half ton truck, I will thoroughly inspect to make sure it is capable of towing it. I'm not going to put my customers in an unsafe situation.
@@scottschermerhorn7040 You should've added the max payload package to your truck as well as max towing. Your payload would've been around 2500lbs. The 2013 I had was 2530lb payload with 3.5L Ecoboost crewcab with the 6.5' bed and 3.73 rear end.
@@atvtinker01 I didn't order my truck, it was on the lot. And I don't need the HD payload package for my camper. My point is that this salesman is making people think this camper is half ton towable when most likely less than 1% of the half ton trucks out there can't tow it. Why advertise it to those people?
I like this unit but do not care for the cable driven slides. Especially on the larger slide.

No way I would pull that with half ton truck. Dealers will tell you just about anything to get you out the door.
That is certainly not what I do. I should have gone into more depth about towing specs in this video… but we were at a show where we are there for 12+ hrs a day and I was trying to get it done more quickly than I would if I was making a video on the lot where I’m not feeling so rush and also brain dead from the amount of time working through the weekend. That said, you are correct that most half tons are pushing it very close on this model and I would heavily question someone wanting to tow something like this with a half-ton and encourage them to get a bigger truck in most instances.

Why are these advertised as half ton fifth wheels? Once you hook it up, you are already at or over your trucks payload capacity. That voids all warranties and puts the driver at risk for liability when in an accident for not following the trucks specifications. Not to mention should put whoever promotes this as half ton towable at risk as well.

STOP THE MADNESS! Stop promoting these as half-ton towable. There is not one 1/2 ton truck manufactured in 2023 that could handle the cargo weight of the pin weight + passenger weight+ hitch weight + weight of other junk you put in your truck. NEVER max out a vehicle’s max specifications. Most sane people would say never go over 75% of Max Specs of your vehicle. Do you max out other things in your household? No, because you know that it would cause undue wear and early breakage. Truck manufacturers DO NOT hitch a 12’ high camper to determine max cargo/ tow weights. They use a flat-bed trailer on a closed course under ideal conditions. No cross winds, mountain passes or tractor trailer trucks passing you. ALWAYS buy more truck than you need. Your defense attorney will be pleased.
