I was eagerly waiting for PD's R3 video . Good job Guys !
and now we are Waiting for Yamaha R3 vs KTM RC 390 vs Kawasaki Ninja 300
Wo 300 cc bikes sirf naam ke liye hain, Yamaha ki technology duniya me sabse advance hai. Chhote engine ke saath bhi upper segment se compete karte hain wo.
First R3 and John then Rossi, My day cant end any better than this. BOOM.
+AB Aldo Payardu When are you planning on booking it? :P
your review is best in India till date. - loved the 50fps shoot
B-)
+bhargav katakkar Thank you Bhargav! :D
Good to c u Sarge!! Bike is stunning no doubt ! and yes eargerly waiting to watch the comprehensive test ride Video PD Style !!!!
+Vipul patil #ComingSoon! :D
hey sarge what about the tyres are they sufficient maybe not like the metzlers on ktm, but you did ride in the rain how did you feel
How about the R3 gearing, isn't the 6th gear overdrive and by the way how much topspeed was able to touch at the BIC
Awesome guys.. cant wait for the full test!!!
+Yuvraj Johri Neither can we!
Sergeant might be smiling from ear-to-ear, but my smile has tore my face around. This is the bike I was waiting for since so long after its made its debut in foreign markets, it has been been a dream. And yes sheldy, I guess am waiting for you to get your hands on this baby for a road test anymore than you are. Adios !! #Powerdrift
impressed with R3 i was disappointed with Yamaha as they were not coming up with new bikes yet but this is the ice breaker of higher capacity motorcycle after r1 hoping my next beast to be this 😁 ty +powerdrift
+rakesh bhalerao we can't wait for pictures of the same!
Thank you :)
Power drift is doing a great jobs these days . Each new review is better than the old one .I mus say Iam addicted to Sagar Sheldekar's reviews .
+Rahul R Nambiar Have you watched this yet? - ua-cam.com/video/LK2Cm56mKbg/v-deo.html :P
+PowerDrift Yep yep !
Already in offline list ! he he he
Very nicely done review , I am a big fan of PowerDrift .. keenly follow all the review that you guys post , I am planning to buy a sub 500 cc bike so probably have checked all the reviews on the internet available today including MCN , motorcycle news , on 2 wheels , Riding with Tom .. etc etc .. so in test done abroad ..Yamaha emerged as the winner .. but I do feel the price at which Yam was launched there was much lower than KTM ( 4799$ compared to 5.5k $ for KTM ) .. I m definitely looking for a review by you, where we compare KTM RC , Honda CBR ( 300 not yet launched by them :-( ) , NInja 300 ( overpriced here ) and YAMAHA r3 and pick the winner , or may be just compare KTM RC with Yamaha R3.. and You guys rock !!
+Divesh Gandhi Thank you so much!
We do have a comprehensive review planned for the R3. Just waiting to get our hands on the test vehicle. Cheers.
Ooohh...mean machine!! Waiting to hear more from u guys...
+Ezhilarasan R Lot's of stuff lined up!
Watched this yet? ua-cam.com/video/LK2Cm56mKbg/v-deo.html :P
There are now 3 top bikes in India, RC390, R3 & Ninja 300.
Though price is a deciding factor, we should compare them more in the technical aspects, as they all belong to special category, SPORTS.
RC390 is powerful on paper, but overall in real world conditions it still lies in line with R3 & Ninja 300. (You can watch review of RC390 by Powerdrift, where it is compared with Ninja 300, and despite having more CC & horses on KTM, there hardly is any difference in performance than Ninja.
Also RC has got only 10 litre of fuel tank capacity, whereas R3 has 14, & Ninja has 17 which surely gives you longer range.
As we all know RC has overheating issues, the fan kicks in lot early, radiator has noise, engine has vibrations, which is quite obvious being a single cylinder. Ninja & R3 excels in this department being a parallel twin.
Yes, KTM has trump card of ABS as standard on RC, but the other twos are also eqipped with better brakes.
Also quality of switchgears and materials on Japs is very high compared to Austrian. Just walk in to any showroom where you can compare side by side and you will notice the difference immediately.
KTM is purely track focused, whereas Kawasaki & Yamaha are easy to ride on both tracks & town roads.
I am not criticising KTM & agree it is truly VFM product, easy to maintain, fun to ride motorcycle, but these are the facts.
You can watch comparo by Motorcycle.com channel where they have compared Honda CBR300R too, but unfortunately Honda has made us fool, by giving fresh paint job to old motorcycle, the CBR250R & not launching the CBR300R.
+Akshay Hingne All the right points right there! Let's see how the R3 does in our comprehensive review.
amazing first ride report guys....:)
+vinay gupta Thank you!
With respect to the comments below:
There is no vibration on the Yamaha as it's a twin cylinder engine and these babies can cancel the vibration quite easily when properly synced.
The KTM has a single cylinder engine and that's tough to reduce vibrations if you want to keep the power high but I applaud the KTM engineers who have made the vibrations as low as possible. It's extremely smooth cruising around 140 if you can bare the wind blast.
Overall, I prefer the KTM. Don't bother commenting if you think it's a track focused bike and blah blah... I'm comparing the Duke with the Yamaha and that's something Yamaha will find difficult to beat except when it comes to the top speed.
Jinpachi Mishima "commuting from one point to another with comfort and power available." Sounds like you're either talking about the r3 or the D390
"Both bikes have their advantages, you simply get what you pay for"
Indeed both have their advantages but to get what you pay for, you get more for less cost with the KTM at least here in India.
To counter your point on the life of motorcycles based on their history, which clearly the KTM has none as these are pretty new motorcycles, I'm gonna say BMW.
+Kevin Arnold There There! Cool down folks, what you are fighting between for is like choosing between the right eye and the rest of the jaw. Both have their needs and you are simply liking on side of the story. Choices are always good. The R3 brings in another multi cylinder choice to the market, one thats made to be an everyday living bike!
PowerDrift lol we're not fighting dad
Jinpachi Mishima have you tried the new 2015 KTM Duke 390?
Jinpachi Mishima "On second thoughts, maybe that is what you thought we were discussing here , in your mind."
I Din't understand that bro
#25MillionOnPD u ppl r crzy ... ull giv us all the information abt the bike ..would love to wear the tshirt proudly..
+akki cyriac Thanks a ton! :D
I am definately going for this Bike......
Was worth the wait for it :) :) :)
+Shantanu Gogoi Do send us a few pictures when you get this beauty :)
PowerDrift Sure ..... :) :) :)
By the way when you rode on the circuit as shown in the vdo how was the tyres like? What is ur verdict about the tyres that will be in stock with the R3?
Equal respect for r3 and the rc390 , r3 is priced well indeed since it's a twin cylinder and it's imported, unlike the pathetic ninja300 !
if I wasn't on a budget I really couldn't choose between the 2 bikes as they both offer completely different feel and excitement . can't wait for a video of comparison ! nice video .
+Karthik Anjanappa Yamaha has indeed priced it pretty well when compared to the Ninja 300. A comprehensive review is coming soon!
Thank you :)
Youhooooo!!! Finally R3 and CBR650F in INDIA!!!! PowerDrift #PDArmy
+Dishant Patel Which one are you going for?
PowerDrift I guess R3 as it will be my first bike im still 17 not that i dont ride.....
I bet the engine and gear box is pretty amazing! maybe that's what you pay extra for.
That's one more reason to be a proud Indian. Ain't it?! Happy Independence day in advance.:)
Anirudh Brahmanand ya right on the point in Europe and US Rc 390 is a bit expensive.. if Rc and Duke had to be imported to India i guess they might cost above 3 lakhs
+yashraj singha Yes it is ;) Gives those butter brands a run for their money :)
PowerDrift guyz when will the R3 review come out?
I really liked you showing rossi's namaste to India and congratulations for the R3 release....I'm happy that the R3 is not track focused and wants to be an all-rounder. Comparing to the RC390/Duke 390, the R3 is definitely a much better engineered package. Its a twin-cylinder thats why the price if much higher than the single-cylinder 390CC KTMs, but at this price I really want an ABS...Any idea how much extra Yamaha will charge for an ABS system If they give it as an option?.....Grreat Job Guys......Waiting for the full review now....
+Krishna Prasath Yamaha have said that they'll be launching an ABS version. No official dates announced yet though.
Thank you so much! We're still waiting for the test vehicle to arrive. Hopefully real soon!
man man!!! its finally here!!!! one thing- awesome!!! hey ten hut what woud u prefer , the orange, the blue or the green huh???
+Dev Agnani As of now there are only 2 color options available on the R3. Black and blue.
i meant either the ktm or yamaha or ninja!!!
nice job shekhar..doing good work...wish u the best for ur endeavors...i request you to visit hyderabad..if there is any upcoming yamaha bike show..
Thank you so much Powerdrift for the first ride review within a few days of the launch of this beautiful beast. Thank you team Powerdrift and please upload the review asap.

Me too
+powerdrift I know the fun starts here with loads of machines that have come up now ... I wanna know the best bike of 2015 now ... I know the this revs the heart but I think RC390 revs the soul too ... but considering reviews I think each stand out to have each set of character in it ... can't wait for you test all of it get your verdict out about this ... #bikelove
+suhas maddy We've covered most of the bikes launched this year. Are you looking for something specific? The R3 review will be coming soon too. Stay tuned!
+PowerDrift I thank you for your reply but I really need your help. I have planning of buying anyone of these bikes, I wanna which is best buy . I am stuck in dilemma that which one should I go for . we even have pulsar cs400 coming up. now have so many options that interest me .. I have no problem with price point of view . I wanna know which machine is the best in this class and which I can customize and keep it for long term and have a good biking experiences ..
Looks impressive,Its a bit on a costlier side though, should definetly bring in ABS.It is tough as KTM and Kawasaki r ruling the India streets now.Powerdrift good job guys on the first ride and updates (Y)
+Amith Kashyap They are considering getting the ABS here as an option.
Thank you so much! :)
At last the wait is! over what say sagar sir? Thanks for the updates. Can I upgrade myself into this one blindly?? *****
when is the red and white variant of r3 is gonna release in India?
+Nikhil H As of now there is no red and white colour in the R3 but it might be launched soon.
U guys r doing really well job keep it up
+Tushar Gaikwad Thank you so much. Keep sharing #PDArmy! :D
How is the grip from MRF tyres. Can they hold good in corners or are they shaky??
***** So what would you prefer: IRC on Ninja 300 or MRF on R3 ?
I am pretty much disappointed from YAMAHA as my brother has got RC 390 and i wanted to have R25/R3 instead of another Orange Demon, but as soon as YAMAHA launched it, KTM won my heart n respect as it has got more power and lot of standard goodies along with an attractive price.
sahir khan but it has twin cylinder -_-
Gamer Gone Mad True but paying 1.6 Lakhs more (On-road) Without good tires, without standard ABS and 70cc less is not justified.
With the positives and negatives of KTM RC 390, When it comes to value for money , i don't see any bike now or in the future that meets that.
For god sakes Honda and Yamaha, Manufacture your bikes here already!
Kenny Sebastian Yup true.. i wish they start making this bike in India. then it will cost less....
Kenny Sebastian KTM is 375cc ! KTM is a much better option because its got everything a rider needs (power, safety, quality etc) and you save a lot as well. You can make it even more powerful with that kind of money .
Kenny Sebastian KTM's 375cc and R3's 321cc. So a difference of 54cc. KTM makes 3 bhp more at the wheel than R3 which makes 1 more than N300.
If performance is what you are after, there's nothing better than KTM currently. If you want all-rounder, R3 or N300 would make a better choice.

Good first look review guys.. While doing full review, please compare this machine with ninja 300.. Cos I got stuck now between these 2 beasts..!
wwooowww fantasticccc bike.. i loove thissss.. oh my godddd..
+shagul hameed Yaaayyiee we love it too :D
1.30 lac more expensive than the RC390. I myself had an RC. Only cons I see here is lack of ABS and upside down forks. But this thing has best overall performance. You get a motorcycle with good looks and thus with a better ergonomics. Believe me, RC was a pain for me to cruise into city and most of them are not track oriented people. RC390 is only for those who are up to tracks. Although RC is better in terms of equipment, but still Yamaha made this in focus to an all rounder motorcycle which can be suitable day to day ride and even burn the tracks.
This thing is a bit overpriced, but if you look on the other side that is ninja, I dare you to complain
An a comprehensive review from PowerDrift will surely make you fall in love with this machine
PS: KTM is made in India by Bajaj*cough*(6th Lord of quality) and this thing is purely an international product.
What is the name of the background score in the second half of the video ? I love how power drift makes the videos sound premium with these background scores.
+chirag jhumkhawala they come from a private library and hence cannot be shared :(
We have a playlist full of tracks used in our reviews - ua-cam.com/play/PLVfy6I8a8OSxMlnmzLa5wAO68lXYX5XhE.html
Oh man!! Sheldy!! U rock.. please bring on the comprehensive review.. (I am sure u will bring in the rc n ninja just the way u bought those bike like 'Hidden Ghosts' in Rc390 review- just praising #powerdrift works..)
.
I was very glad to see you asking a question on the ABS on the launch..
Just one question - would these tyres help u in cornering?
***** - thanks a lot..
One more question.. U have bought a rc390 (as u said in rc review) .. Just curious , will u buy this bike? Is this bike equally good? If given an option , wch one would u choose?
Awesome video guys .. Plz advice which tyres would be good for Indian street condition.. Also advice on aftermarket exhaust
+Azeem Merchant Our crew rides with a variety of choices on a variety of motorcycles. Which bike, what is "good" for you, grip, tread, life, etc?
HEY..!
Good works guys. Hope you guys compare ninja 300, RC390 and R3 in one of your future videos.
+adi25aug We have a comprehensive review coming up soon. :)
Love to see another amazing video by #PowerDrfit ......Regarding the R3. I was waiting for this bike to come since ages....but its sad to say Im deeply disappointed with the price Yamaha are quoting. I guess importing the parts of this bike will be the real reason this bike wont sell to any person looking for good 300cc+ bike to ride..
+Manaswi Mishra Thank you! The price is pretty good when compared to the Ninja 300 but yeah in the end you have the KTM's which are much cheaper with more tech and power!
Exactly! cheers we feel alike :)
Yamaha R3 has very smooth engine its between track and city focus bike both ability bike have i think so
Wowww man!!!
+Harish Sankar Thank you :)
Yamaha R3! At last something with power
+Amith Nair A decent amount of power! :D
i saw the release videos on you tube.. and i heard sagar asking the question abt ABS.. because thats a concern.. also i hv been goin thru other reviews.. wer they have given wrong specifications of the bike performance figures.. bt you guys are giving the exact info that the yamaha guy said.. so i believe you guys more..
cheers.. and thanks..
+Vijay Vishwas All the information we give our are always double checked. A standard has to be maintained right? :P
Hi Guys...
can you please update us if there is any news about ABS for this bike?
congrats to india for having the R3
+ShinN EiJiN We can't wait to have some fun with it! ;)
ABS in and it's DONE. What a beauty----------------->>
+A Gaur What a beauty indeed! They will be getting a ABS version too.
Hi!! I m a big fan of yours and almost have watched all your bike reviews videos... In case of R3 I want to know, how was the tyre grip of R3 on the track???
This is a problem...As I love leaning through coners..Tyres need to be replace to solve this
Is there any cases of releasing r25 in India or its just r3
Great detailed review fellas thank you.
+Zone Television Just a First Ride report! A comprehensive review is coming soon!
looking forwrd for ur full review of r3,but we have to agree tht the pricing is bit on a higher side!whch i thnk will hold back many buyers...wht r ur thoughts??#
nice video and I wonder how did u record the last flight scene! :D
I really want to know :D
+nishiith puvati Sshhhhhhhhh! Team secret that is ;)
#25MillionOnPD
Great video as usual!
Please do R3 vs RC390 vs Ninja 300 as soon as possible. :)
+Vaibhav Chauhan We are still waiting for the test bike to arrive from Yamaha for a comprehensive review.
PowerDrift What about the tires? Are they good for the purpose it is built i.e. sport-touring keeping in mind the not-so-good road conditions in India? Also, regarding the suspension, are those KYB? Also, do you really think slipper clutch is that much important for a 300cc bike? As much I'm aware, slipper clutch means very less engine braking, so is that a necessity as most people will not use it in tracks? If not, then is it a good buy over N300? Also, if ABS comes over as an option will it be possible to install it later? And the biggest question, at this price is it worth regarding the whole package?
***** Thanks a lot Sirjee. :) Throttle blipping is a better option rather than shelling out another 40K I guess. And yes, what I would really miss is the ABS, which, to me, is an important requirement while touring in India at least.
***** Tire changes are a must once the first set wears out. Will switch to Michelin as they're stock for the US market. Slipper clutch anyhow can be substituted by throttle blipping as ***** said...but ABS can't be substituted.
+praveenbec with abs the bike would be costlier but if at this same price if they had managed to give abs..then we are talking
..
I love the fact that you guys actually show video from when you push the bike.
All the American videos have riders going slower than my grandmother through every corner. I'm sure they actually push it when they're testing, but all the footage is just slow cruising around the track and it makes it really boring to watch.
+Indarog What else do you expect around a full fledged circuit? :P
Sagar - quick question. Riding which felt better? Ninja 300 or R3? :D
can tis machine make revolution on Indian roads...#pdrift
.
.
waiting for comprehensive review
+sreekesh prakash Here it is, if you haven't caught it yet - ua-cam.com/video/geJmS_po06Q/v-deo.html
Really hope yamaha find success and lots of takers for this bike.
Glad they didnt go up for a amped up single cylinder version. Twins offer way more refinement.
Really hope they find enough takers not to withdraw, cuz from everywhere i have seen people are singing praises of this bike.
With enough takers, this could kick off a trend of refined twins entering the market in a bunch, bringing in more competitive pricing.
+radikel #FingersCrossed! A comprehensive review is coming.. Stay tuned.
+PowerDrift
Thanks! You guys do amazing justice to every bike you review, and awesome videos in general.
Cant wait!
just two words for the R3 " Ek Number "
+Swapnil Sarang True that. Very impressive!
If I want to upgrade the R3 like rc 390 in terms of body positioning and handle bars making it more track oriented like r15 v2 or even more what all I need to do. Please educate me sir.
Waiting to see this pitted against the Kwacker. Please get it soon.. Thumbs up for the review.
+nitesh nair Review coming soon! We're still waiting for the test vehicle from Yamaha.
+PowerDrift Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow at select Yamaha dealerships.
How good is it compare to Honda cbr 300 and ninga 300 which one is better for purchase
girish girish kumar Cbr 300 isnt avaible.. And it has very less bhp compared to ninja and r3.. R3 is i think better than ninja and cbr
is it good for daily use and traffics
+sahil malik We tested the bike on the track and with limited time. We'll cover these in the full review.
Kk thanx
can u please let me know when u guys doing the complete review atleast the approx date my bike is ready for delivery just awaiting ur review ! @powerdrift ! is it worth the money ? over the rc390 ! comfort is also my priority but incase the r3 is not worth that money I can comprise on the comfort on the rc390 !
+crta0 Our first ride impressions are fiery to say the least. We still have to do a comparo with it's rival counterparts which shall happen soon :)
+PowerDrift hmmm waiting for ur comparison :( bike is awaiting me :'(
Every single time new bike comes to India and it lacks ABS !
and why they swap Machelin pilot street tye with MRF shit ?! huuf !
anyway the 170kmh on 5th gear nice to see so much of refined engine and gearbox
and the wishes from Namaste rossi 46 :D
awesome machine this t is i can see in sagar's eye !!
Arun Menon : I'm not sure but maybe Yamaha India has a contract with MRF which says that any bike manufactured or assembled in India by YIM should have MRF tires as OEM... just a speculation.
thats because some tyres are not made for indian roads..they wont last..these mrfs are specially made and tested for our roads..they are not that expensive too..
+Arnab Chowdhury Michelin pilot street tyre is a good track based tyre
vishnu nair : Yes agree. I would change to that after the stock tires are over... Already decided.. :)
Food for thought, The R15 had MRF's and they left everyone going gaga over it! Everyone criticising the tyres need to remember that Yamaha selects the OEM parts with a lot of due diligence! So may be they are good 'all round' tyres that will last a lot more the current MetZ's! Eitherway we now have more choice on Motorcycles and tyres so hurray for that!
Its 1.3 lakh more expensive than the rc390. And if you think you are paying such a premium for the quality you are sadly mistaken. It goes into taxes and import expenses. (Rc390 is more expensive in the US than the r3) Yamaha should really have built this cute little bike here in India which could have brought the price on par with rc390.Yamaha is under- estimating the buying power of Indians thus no manufacturing here fearing low sales numbers. Keep an eye on KTM, Yamaha. They have got a firm foot in the Indian market, one of the worlds largest market for two wheelers and they will soon carve into your market share worldwide because of the r&d they can afford from the revenue from huge sales numbers from India. Make in India Yamaha.
Sampath Kevungara it has 2 cylinders -_- unlike rc
Gamer Gone Mad and still rc has more power :3
+Nitish sah talk abt reliability and u see bajaj/KTM nowhere. just because they are still to prove it in a long run. on the other side u have more established players like Yamaha kawi Honda. even these people can manufacture a single with rc like power but they haven't gone that way. there should be some reason definitely. sarge says engine of r3 n kawi are smooth, whereas having ridden a rc I would say it vibrates at high rpms, but nonetheless a fun bike to ride.so their are many factors to decide on a bike. and for a true rider price comes last.
Nitish sah only a little bit of power.. plus its 300 not 390 like KTM... and Yamaha is more reliable than KTM... and many more things are there.. let the bike come we will knw for sure y it beats KTM
Gamer Gone Mad highly agreed to all what you said .. but bro this is india .. such a specs of R3 with twin cylinder and all that sounds really good ... but most of the indians including me would go for a bike like RC390 over R3 .. because of the price range ... not all in india can afford a bike worth 3 + lakhs.. its all about sales buddy .. not all good quality products with high price make good sales if we are talking about the business point of view .. and to top it off on the customers end RC390 has ABS .. which would turn a lot of customers towards KTM even when you have a lot of money to spend ..
Will Yamaha anytime launch a higher version of FZ series... Same specs as R3 but in FZ series/ Street motorcycle/ Naked Bike series?
+Adit Newah there are rumours about the MT series being launched in India.
www.bikewale.com/news/15990-new-yamaha-mt125-revealed-bigger-mt25-could-be-on-cards.html
Hey Sagar/Ten, can you explain why the rev limiter and its purpose? thanks.
+Mukul Uppal this should clear your doubts about the rev limiter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rev_limiter
when will yamaha r25 going to arrive in india..?
+harsh kale With the R3 here, we assume it will take a fair bit for that to happen :)
But why r3 is launching before r25 .?
Crisp first ride video. Do you guys think the price of R3 is justified? I am totally interested in R3 vs RC390 video.
+arun k.rajan It is a good price when compared to the Ninja 300. But we would've loved to see ABS coming in as standard.
We are waiting for the test bike to arrive so we can do a comprehensive review of the same.
If Yamaha had priced it below the RC390 then im sure this thing would've sold like hot cakes!
If only it were cheaper.
Doesn't stop you from wanting to save up those pennies though!!!
