Welcome to the homestead community! I am so pleased I came across your channel. Don't give up! Your hard work and sacrifice will pay off. We started our homestead 7 years ago. With limited resources we are no where near where we would like but would not change a thing. The peace and blessings of hard work and learning are priceless. By documenting with your videos you can look back year after year and see how far you have come. It will help to keep you inspired on difficult days. I left the corporate world to be a stay at home mom on the homestead. It has been the hardest but most rewarding job of my life. Skill building is the most important thing you can invest in. Start studying small machine repair / mechanics. Get a broken mower or bush cutter and take it apart. See how it works and study how to fix it. Work your way up to larger machines. It will save you a ton of money. But also invest in manual tools. You never know when fuel , oil and parts will no longer be obtainable. I'm so proud of you guys! Love and blessings from Quebec, Canada. I look forward to following on your journey of growth. Ps. Would goats or pigs help with your bush control; problem? I'm going to look at your other videos :)
Thank you for this beautiful message full of encouragement. We would be lying if we said we are not scared. We are terrified to try this. We are often unsure of what we are doing. LOL, many times we want to give up (we have developed new curse words LOL). But knowing that you have been on the journey for 7 years and still feel like you have a lot to do, really does make us feel like we need to give ourselves a break. So thank you for sharing that. Buying broken equipment is such a good idea, we usually go to auctions,so we will be looking for some tools next time to learn to fix. We are so looking forward to your advice and guidance all the way across the oceans. PS: We are going to be buying 3 goats before the end of the year, we don't have chickens yet 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@millennialhomesteader Fear is the enemy! We lay our burdens in God's hands and that is how we have made it thus far. It gives us peace and a centered balanced perspective. I don't know if you are people of faith but you are young and strong and as far as I can tell full of love and good humor. Keep those qualities in the toughest of times and you will make it. We are by no means the know all, be all and still make our fair share of mistakes but we can share what has worked for us. If you would like to search me out on Facebook I am under my name with a thumbnail of our chickshaw with chickens with a field of dark pink flowers and pine trees in the background. My husband Stephane is mechanic, plumber, electrician, butcher, carpenter, law and taxes and I also have some of those skills along with gardens, cooking, baking, preserving, accounting, inventory management. We are pretty much Jacks of all trades, masters at none Lol. Between the two of us we have raised 9 children. We only have one at home now. Cyr-Leon he is 7 and the biggest handful of love. I look forward to following your journey of learning. -Kathryn in Quebec
Absolutely. We aspire for more people in our country to grow and raise their own food and become more sufficient for their families. Hoping to share the journey.
Hi you 2. I am a new subscriber. I am gonna watch all the previous videos. There's a No Knead Bread recipe on YT. Try it. It is so easy and quick. Only white bread flour, luke warm water, salt, sugar, instant dry heast and a wooden spoon to stir all the ingredients. Leave it to double in volume and put it in the oven or outside on an open fire with hot colesnon top and bake it for an hour. I use white plastic milk bottles and yougurt tubs to label my veggies. Lots of ❤ and all the best with your homestead. Granny Western Cape.
Thank you so much Gogo ❤❤ We are so glad to have you and thank you for sharing this recipe. We have been trying them all. haha I can even do sourdough now😹 can you believe it! been learning a lot and enjoying this process
So happy I came across your channel and already this sobering reflection has been incredibly helpful. I love the dynamic between the two of you. Looking forward to the unfolding journey
Thank you! And so excited to share this with you ! Hehe the homestead really creates its own challenges. We are so looking forward to see what happens ❤️
Thanks Patricia. We really jumped into it and had few resources to guide us through the journey from an SA context. So glad to hear you are interested in doing this. Can’t wait to hear about all about it.
Thanks so much for watching 😂. Even more thankful you went to watch some of the older stuff. We plan to get atleast 3 goats, the issue: fencing. They say don’t get goats if your fence lets out water and so far ours would leak an ocean. Next month we will fix the fence and Jan we will get goats to control the area below. Stay tuned 😊
I love how y’all talk about your regrets with smiles on your faces😅 Ya’ll are so inspiring, literally living my dream and I pray you continue to grow from strength to strength and achieve your dreams on this beautiful land ✨
Girl, we give up at least 3 times everyday. It's starting to feel normal-ish. But honestly, having a community on instagram with you chiming in really helps because we were clueless when we started this.So thank you for the encouraging words and hopefully one day we can host you over here ;)
You guys are the best...so natural, relaxed and comfortable at sharing your experiences! We LOVE your sense of humor...you made us laugh and learn? You are the best 'idiots' we know and we love you so much
Distance... so true. It is always a 1:1 curse and blessing. Those things that you need, will eventually come from yourself and neighbours (bread, milk, eggs, seeds, repairs) in some trade form. Takealot... yep, same here 😆
With a bit of luck your channel will grow enough so you can make some money off that. I admire you. I live in a JHB suburb, have chickens and grow quite a bit of food, but I'm far from self-sufficient. My neighbours think I am weird. I am planning to move to a small Free State town and do more. I subscribed to your channel as I really like your energy.
Thanks so much. If we can afford chicken feed off the channel that will be enough 😂😂, those buggers sure do eat. Nothing weird about you. You just have a vision no one around you understands. It is unfortunate that it takes a massive global change like a pandemic, food shortage, grid failure etc for people to understand. If you can find a community of like minded people then do it. We are praying for your vision ❤️.
Congratulations for starting your homestead 🎉🎉 Starting any form of a business is never easy but it works out well in the long run. Just be patient with the process 😊😊 Been looking for South Africans who have started this journey and I'm looking forward to see your journey. Me and my husband are in the process of starting so we will learn a lot from you. More grace, ability and capacity to grow in this endeavor that you have embarked on. All the best! ❤
Thank you. We have been fortunate to connect with South Africans and global people as we navigate homesteading. We hope we can grow our local community to be more self sufficient. Thanks for your warm wishes and blessings. Hoping you and your husband take time researching and looking for the right place. Blessings to you and your family.
Stumbled on this site, fell in love with you guys because you are in my neck of the woods and subbed. Thank you for posting. I shall be Bing watch your episodes. Thank you
I found your channel today when I was looking into curly top disease on my tomatoes. Peace and joy just radiate from both of you. I subscribed and look forward to following your journey. It takes a lot of grit to do what you and many others are doing, and it's awesome! I wish you nothing but success!
Thank you. We feel truly blessed to be able to do this and go through these experiences. It is not easy and has many challenges but we are joyful. Thanks for joining our journey, hoping to share more of it.
I just subscribed, I will be homesteading soon, found land in the lowveld Mpumalanga but raising funds to buy and move. I will be learning from you guys.
Yay, we are going to be neighbours! So excited for you! When you are settled and all please give us a shout. We would love love to come help out with anything on your farm!
Just found you guys. You are such an incredibly lovely couple with a good sense of humour, I enjoyed watching and laughing along. We are about to start our journey with a very small one income, we are relying on God for everything since we believe self-sufficiency is the way to go. Keep it up, one day it will pay off.
Thanks Lynda. Glad you are enjoying our journey. Humour is our main weapon to deal 😂 with the bad days as tears would have to be the alternative. We are praying for you, all great journeys are scary but start with a single step❤.
@@sizwetshabalala1300 Wishing you the best of luck Sizwe. Take your time looking for the right place, don't even limit yourself to a single location as there are so many possibilities. To solve our lack of address make friends with a local shop many will accept deliveries for you We use a local pharmacy. Also order only when you are over the free delivery limit. We sold our car and bought a bakkie saved a fortune on delivery costs Keep going will be worth it in the end Try goats to keep the bush under control One way to sell you produce is to use your work Selling from the car boot n the lunch break once a week put a note on the office notice board That soon takes off
Hi. If you mean drinking water, we get our water from a servitude. We are planning to set up a rain water collection system and pump water from the dam and purify it to be completely water self-sufficient. When we are ready to start that we will share the whole process.
O shucks goats...you must think twice. They will destroy your veggie garden and all the trees. They eat the bark of the trees and then it dies. I think sheep is much better. Grannyl❤
Good idea. We have decided to have the goats at the lowest part of the homestead. We won’t have any trees of importance and have lots of grass that needs to be controlled. That way our fruit trees will be safe ❤️. Thanks for the advice.

Awesome video, loved this, I am on the same journey and even with all the challenges I wouldn’t change this lifestyle for anything or anyone❤
startup costs are always the issue, but it gets better once set up.
So true. As time passes we have a better understanding of what we need to prioritize and where to cut from our budget🙂
We cut out our seed labels from empty white ice cream tubs with a permanent marker and can clean off if need be too.

Once you can have cows and goats then your grass problems will be soeted as it's their food source.
Yes, true. We are definately getting goats soon. The cows would be great too but we are only under 2 hectares. But one day is one day
