@@martinneps9387 It depends on what update you’re asking about. Most Social Security updates, like the payment schedule or general benefit changes, apply to everyone receiving Social Security or SSI. That’s an incredibly difficult situation, and it’s heartbreaking that so many are forced to stretch their Social Security benefits so thin. You’re absolutely right. Seeing elderly people struggle with homelessness is heartbreaking and a major concern. Programs like Social Security and affordable housing initiatives are meant to help prevent this, but it’s clear more needs to be done. What do you think would be the best first step to address this crisis and ensure every senior has a safe place to live?

That's such a tough situation, and it’s honestly heartbreaking that so many people are stuck trying to make ends meet on so little. If someone’s in that spot, they might need to look into assistance programs for housing, food, and utilities to help stretch those dollars further. Local community centers, food banks, or even nonprofits sometimes have resources that can really make a difference. Nobody should have to face that kind of struggle alone.
The 2.5% COLA for 2025 provides a modest increase in benefits for Americans receiving Social Security and SSI payments, helping to offset the rising cost of living and inflation. This increase offers essential financial relief for vulnerable populations like retirees. But on the contrary, the avg. American is having a tough time, I know I am not alone. There are others in same position as me. By certain statistics: 22% of americans have no retirement savings. 64% are worried that they will not have money in latter years while 47% of adults who are not yet retired think they have to work part-time in retirement. How can I best grow the 100k I have saved seperately outside retirement access which of course had depleted over the years?
It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time. Individuals can seek counsel from a certified financial advisor to optimise financial outcomes, who can provide specialised advice and methods to decrease expenses and maximise income.
I completely agree; I am in my mid 40s, approaching retirement, and have approximately over 2million dollars in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, the Fin-advisor can only be neglected, not rejected. Just do your due diligence to identify a fiduciary one.

Great question! Yes, the updates like the Cost-of-Living Adjustment apply to everyone receiving Social Security benefits, including retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors. The payment schedule, however, depends on specific factors like your birth date or the type of benefit you receive. Keep an eye on your payment dates and statements for the exact amount. And yes, we all could use a little boost-fingers crossed things get easier for everyone!
Most people pay rent and utilities on the first and third, so that means I can't pay my rent or utilities? I will be homeless by the time I get a check!
