      @@martinneps9387 It depends on what update you’re asking about. Most Social Security updates, like the payment schedule or general benefit changes, apply to everyone receiving Social Security or SSI. But some changes, like specific adjustments or new policies, might only affect certain groups, like retirees or those with disabilities.

    Low income workers are also low Social Security earners. Last year my rent jumped up $400/month - my SS payment increased $35!! I now end up with approx $27 more than rent. I challenge anyone to live on less than One Dollar a day. Without Food Stamps I would be dead.

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  10 днів тому +6

      That’s an incredibly difficult situation, and it’s heartbreaking that so many are forced to stretch their Social Security benefits so thin. A $35 increase doesn’t come close to matching the rising costs of rent, food, and other essentials. It’s a harsh reality that highlights the gaps in support for low-income workers and retirees. Thank goodness for food stamps helping you get by, but no one should have to live like this. You’re not alone, and your story is a powerful reminder of why these systems need real reform.

      You’re absolutely right. Seeing elderly people struggle with homelessness is heartbreaking and a major concern. Programs like Social Security and affordable housing initiatives are meant to help prevent this, but it’s clear more needs to be done. That's such a tough situation, and it’s honestly heartbreaking that so many people are stuck trying to make ends meet on so little. If someone’s in that spot, they might need to look into assistance programs for housing, food, and utilities to help stretch those dollars further. Local community centers, food banks, or even nonprofits sometimes have resources that can really make a difference. Nobody should have to face that kind of struggle alone.

    The 2.5% COLA for 2025 provides a modest increase in benefits for Americans receiving Social Security and SSI payments, helping to offset the rising cost of living and inflation. This increase offers essential financial relief for vulnerable populations like retirees. But on the contrary, the avg. American is having a tough time, I know I am not alone. There are others in same position as me. By certain statistics: 22% of americans have no retirement savings. 64% are worried that they will not have money in latter years while 47% of adults who are not yet retired think they have to work part-time in retirement. How can I best grow the 100k I have saved seperately outside retirement access which of course had depleted over the years?

    • @rogerwheelers4322
      @rogerwheelers4322 10 днів тому +8

      It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time. Individuals can seek counsel from a certified financial advisor to optimise financial outcomes, who can provide specialised advice and methods to decrease expenses and maximise income.

    • @joshbarney114
      @joshbarney114 10 днів тому +8

      I completely agree; I am in my mid 40s, approaching retirement, and have approximately over 2million dollars in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, the Fin-advisor can only be neglected, not rejected. Just do your due diligence to identify a fiduciary one.

      That’s tough, but it’s incredible that you were able to pay off your house during such a challenging time. That’s a huge accomplishment and likely a big reason you’ve been able to stay stable despite limited income. Great question! Yes, the updates like the Cost-of-Living Adjustment apply to everyone receiving Social Security benefits, including retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors. The payment schedule, however, depends on specific factors like your birth date or the type of benefit you receive. Keep an eye on your payment dates and statements for the exact amount. And yes, we all could use a little boost-fingers crossed things get easier for everyone!

      That’s so frustrating, and unfortunately, it’s a situation a lot of people face. When Social Security increases even a little, it can lower eligibility for things like food stamps, which ends up canceling out the benefit. It doesn’t feel fair, especially when every dollar counts. Hopefully, programs can find a better balance to truly help people instead of shifting the burden. You’re not alone in feeling this way.

      It’s definitely a tough situation for so many people relying on Social Security, especially with all the changes and challenges in February. Between early payments, adjustments, and ongoing concerns about funding and efficiency, it’s no wonder people are feeling the stress. Let’s hope things go smoother for everyone soon!

      The Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increase for 2025 has already kicked in, so you’ll see the adjusted amount in your February payment compared to last year. It’s a 2.5% increase, which means a little extra in your benefits each month.

    I receive widows benefits and our daughter is receiving survivors benefits my husband was at full retirement age and receiving his full benefits and still working at the same time (not sure exactly how all that working and not working stuff works with social security retirement. I just get my benefits lol and go with it) so we're both receiving 1573.00 a month. Will we be getting more and if so what is it?
    Idk if this matters he was military for 30 or so years but i don't receive anything from that or at least not that i know of....Should I?
