I got the black 20mm tropic for my Casio Oceanus T200... not quite on the strength of this video alone, but you introduced me to the idea here (then I had to go watch like every review I could find on straps cause I was really hesitant to spend the $80) and... best rubber strap ever. Plus its great with the Oceanus in particuar. Its the first rubber strap I've seen that looks dressy, the comfort is amazing, and I can totally ignore the effects of water on my watch strap now. Definitely the best looking and most comfortable rubber strap I've ever experienced
Thank you for not being one of the people saying everything must be sapphire. Take it from me who still manages to scratch sapphire at work. I'm really glad to see that Tropic has rounded the ends. That was my one negative with them before. They are expensive but man are they worth it.
I found that MAX FKM Tropic straps are comparable to the OG Tropic strap. Once you remove the QR spring bars and replace them with the Seiko fat spring bars they fit perfectly. Wonderfully comfortable and breathable. I have been using them for a few years now and can wholeheartedly recommend them. Great video as usual my friend.
Terrific overview; thank you! Often wondered why these things were so much more expensive than the copies. Now I know. Love the slim turtle. Might want to lose the focus-magnet cloth for the next one? Keep entertaining dude!
After all these years of great reviews or strap recommendations, I would like to say thank you and give something back as well - my first choice of straps on watches from Squale and Seiko is the model 328 from Bonetto Cinturini or Zuludiver. Nato straps made of rubber, they also emphasise the "vintage" look.
welcome to the above the bone club. I may try one of these, but I was curious for a direct comparison of the Uncle Seiko, because I suspect his is made by Tropic, because it is better than any others I’ve tried.
@@AverageBros excellent. I also like the waffle pattern showing on the rolled ends. I will probably check one out, as I leave my sbdc101 on the tropic all year.
I purchased a 20mm from Tropic when they were re-released a couple years ago. My only complaint was it was not really 20mm and left a sizable gap. Did they address this?
The one I just bought is just a tad over 19mm at its widest point. Although, on my SPRE55, I don't see a "sizable" gap. It starts tapering immediately, but fits the 20mm lug size of the SRPE just fine.
Tropic straps are just too long. Joseph Bonnie make a great vulcanised tropic style strap. The quality is excellent and there are no issues with the end profile or width. Lots of colour options. Nice video, thanks
I’m really liking it the smaller Turtle. The uniform dial markers and the tiny date window look amazing, although I am a fan of sapphire crystal and ceramic bezels. The straps seem really good too, I think I might just buy a pair for my King Turtle. I’d rather get the real thing, the authentic Tropic straps, instead of the countless counterfeits out there. Thank you for the review. I’ve been looking at the ISOfrane straps, but these seem more understated and stylish in comparison.
I got one of these with my Momentum Atlas Automatic, but there was too much space between the holes for me and it would not fit properly. Went back to a Barton Elite.
Well, I got my Tropic from LIW today and I can say that I disagree with you. I still like the Uncle Seiko much more. The Tropic is too floppy and too long. the softness is nice, but it makes the fit on wrist too sloppy for me. I tried it on my sbdc101 and on my CWard C63 gmt and didn’t like it on either. If you want to buy this off of me as a back up, let me know and I’ll hook you up with a good deal. Cheers!
I own both this and a barton i bought off amazon, for 10. 99 frankly as far as materials there is no difference." You have to change the spring bars on both because they will wallow out the holes on your seiko. I would buy the barton over the original because it comes with a locking outside keeper and 2 straps without the buckle for a perfect fit, there's nothing worse then a one size fits all that has a huge amount of excess sticking out that goes around your wrist and practically up to the head of the watch which not only looks tacky but just isn't comfortable, And i have fairly large wrists being big boned and 6' 3".. let's face it there isn't a magical rubber watch strap out there that if worn on a daily basis thats going to last longer then 2 years. I actually wear my watches in all kinds of conditions and situations, i don't use my watches as desk divers!" You can Keep your nostalgia. I will buy a couple of pitcheras of beer at the micro brewery after my swim at the beach with my 70 dollar savings...
It looks like a decent strap, but... the problem is the price. At least that's a problem for me. $79 plus tax may be OK for some of you "poors", but I refuse to own rubber straps which cost less than $500. That's my minimum price for two small pieces of mass produced rubber, $500. p.s. Anyone interested in buying a bridge, please reply. Amazing opportunity : bragging rights, potential to collect tolls 👍🏻
9:50 that doesn't look like great finishing on the inside of the buckles. To me that's unacceptable at that price, for something they claim as premium. I much prefer Joseph Bonnie's version - I think it is better made and it sure looks way closer to the vintage/original design with the taper and buckle design. Unfortunately they only offer it in 20mm.
Why are these straps sized 1mm too small for the lugs revealing the spring bars? Every NEW TROPIC I have touched is miss sized. Yours as well. Yes they are soft but they don't have enough sizing holes and they are spaced so far apart the fit is not precise.
i love the look of these watches. it's the straps i have a problem with. when i see leather with big tread sown in it. all I'm seeing is throw away scrap leather. Nylon? not any better. the look of the watches is hard on straps. case shape is just picky. lol
I got one and wanted to like it but it has a really weird fake vanilla smell. Kinda ruined for me. Also the tail is way too long and pointy. Barton bands does a much better 'rubber' strap for way less, and the tail tucks away neatly.
Tropic actually do not have a manufacturing line and white labels 1 particular chinese manufacturer's straps who also sell it at 1/3 the price under another brand.
Can you tell me the spring bars that you are using? Stock pins are too thick and the aftermarket pins that I ordered are too small. Thanks!

Great to finally see a rounded lug end on the 20. I sold my other one last year. I just couldn’t deal with that flat end.

Just checked Marc’s site, and the photos still show the previous flat edge version. Can you share the exact part number? Thanks

19mm at best
I had same issue and wondered whether thier 22mm would actually be a bit smaller than stated and squeeze in nicely on a 20mm lug
