I like this one. I specifically like that there are multiple ways of doing an action so if you focus on one area because that is your secret objective, it doesn't deny you the ability to progress in the other areas because their are other ways of doing those actions. I like that very much.
At 27:57, during scoring you do all bonus action from your route BEFORE scoring your cars. The bonus actions could increase the amount of points you get when scoring your cars. You can also spend money earned during route bonus actions before scoring and evrn during this route bonus action phase. This could move your conductors or train farther for more bonuses or scoring, and you could use the 11th and 12th coins to upgrade cars before scoring.
This video made me buy the game! I honestly wasn't sure if I'd like it since I'm not a huge fan of Russian Railroads, but it plays so much better to me. However, one thing that disappointed me (though I know you don't have all the time in the world!), is that I expected to see how final scoring would be done at the end--but no matter! I shall read the rule book like I'm supposed to, your videos have just spoiled me :)
no... you either use the coins to do the action of the column, or to get 1 point or you spend 4 coins to get one of the end game bonus cards... the last thing was what Jen did, you don't combine the actions
Thank you very much for clearifying that! I missunderstood what Richard said, overheard probably. Thought you get to do the action below the pile depending on which pile's coins you spend.
At 23:05 you used an action card to upgrade two 0s to 1s, but that card only lets you add 0 cars. The upgrade iconography is very distinct from the add 0 cars iconography. My apologies if this was indeed anotated as I'm not 100% sure I always see them on my mobile player.
hehe, i was kind of dodging the question myself. if i had to choose only one, i think i'd take FC, becuase I find the action selection more interesting that standard worker placement. but if you're comparing RR+expansions against FC, well then one would have to go with RR because the expansions are amazing!
rahdo thanks for your feedback, the problem with RR is it gets a bit pricey what with all the expansions. And given your run through and opinion I'm leaning more towards FC . Thank you and keep up the good work :-)
there's seperate english (zman) and hans im gluck (german) editions of the game. i've got the german one, but there's no ingame text, and you can download the english rules online (which is what ive done)
You say that there are 20 combinations of games you can play... but the order you add in the varying decks doesn't matter (unless I've missed something big), so it's only 10.
No... you can use the Money to either: - Buy Victory points at a rate of 1:1 - Do the action of the Column from which you removed the coin - Buy a end game scoring card for 4 coins
Doesn't having a very good idea of your opponent's goal give you an extra edge? I man, in a two player game, Rahdo (for example) has literally no idea of what Jen is going for, when she has seen the only to options he had. Maybe it's not such a big deal, but I'm curious about that.
***** That's true. I did notice that Jen was usually in the position where she would leave you ten cards to pick from (from two rows, in your last pick) and you would leave her only five on her last. To prevent that she was "forced" to take from the row that already had five card. So maybe going first is really worth it. Thanks for taking the time to answer!
The end-game scoring cards are, in my experience, worth ~10-15 VP each if you heavily used the corresponding type of action card. In a game where winning scores are typically around 150-160 VP (in my experience so far), that's significant but not overwhelming. Also, remember that you can acquire additional end-game scoring cards during the game (offhand, you can get them via 4 coins, action cards, and occasionally contracts). I will sometimes ignore my initial card entirely because the action-cards available to me just don't work well with it. Since you pick you goals before you lay out the initial set of cards, you have very little idea whether an approach will actually be viable. So, I tend to think of the initial draft as picking a goal for couple reasons. First, some cards are sctrictly better (e.g. 2 VP per upgrade vs. 3 VP per upgrade). The other is that you think you'll prefer some types of action cards. For example, I tend to avoid the upgrade action-cards since there's usually more efficient ways to do upgrades (e.g. via routes or contracts). The details depend on the modules used, though.

26:40 I think Jen should also add a 0 on one of her lines as she used a cash action. And thank you for bringing this gem in my attention!

it was already noted... thanks
You compared this to Russian railroads, which do you prefer?

Is the rule book in English as well? Seems pretty international friendly and I don't wanna wait for the US release! Unless...this is the US release?

At 4:12, by the way... if you think it's worthy of noting as a goof.
Was Jen meant to get some '0' carriages when she bought that card for 4 gold in the 6th action round?
No... you can use the Money to either:

- Buy a end game scoring card for 4 coins
Ah OK - that makes sense.

it is a definite advantage given to players later in turn order, but going first is a big deal too ,so it all evens out i think :)
