"The Biggest Electoral Year in History: 2024" raises a critical question; did democracy win? The answer depends on how we define victory. If democracy is measured by record voter turnout, transparent processes, and respect for the outcomes, then any election strengthening these principles marks a triumph. However, challenges such as voter suppression, misinformation, and undue influence from external powers could suggest that democracy remains under siege. Ultimately, democracy's "win" isn't a single event but a continuous process of upholding fairness, accountability, and representation. The 2024 elections may serve as a litmus test for democratic resilience worldwide, reminding us that its true victory lies in the people's unwavering commitment to their collective voice and rights.
We are just too busy is the debate that autocracy vs Democracy vs Communism but rapidly technocracy is taking over us and we can't even do anything about it sadly.
1:38 The use of a real Indian map isn't what it should be. Such big channels should use correct maps, as the use of incorrect ones leads to the spread of misinformation out there. please correct it.....
the map shows the LAC, which is is the most accurate for now. As an Indian, I agree that Kashmir rightfully belongs to India, but it is important to be objective with the CURRENT SITUATION of things
@@ORAACLE8299 actually the pakistani supported map would be the entirety of Kashmir given to Pakistan, with some areas being given to China. This map shows the current situation on the ground (aka de facto / real life control). Obviously there are other areas in the world with situations like this that aren't on the map, like Rojava in Syria and Somaliland in Somalia, but this (Kashmir) is arguably the highest profile border dispute in the world, with three giant UN-recognized states all having claims on parts of this region - it is simpler to just show the current situation on the ground rather than simultaneously displaying with every government claims. Hope this helps
Yesterday Bolivia celebrated its 3rd round of national Judicial Elections -- electing top magistrates democratically. Or so it is proposed, may appear -- and may be, to some extent.
We have so many elections in 2024 but unfortunately the quality is still very lacking. Almost all of the election results were predictable with the winners already leading the polls by a mile. The only surprise result is definitely the US with a very narrow win on popular vote. Democracy is certainly lost.
Our neighbour Mozambique had straight up fraud in the elections, with the ruling party rigging the votes instead of conceding. Our other neighbour Botswana showed us how it's done. Although Masisi had heartaches while giving his speech - he publicly declared and accepted defeat. Here in SA the youth stood firm against the ANC. Many even hid their grannies ID cards so they don't vote for the ANC again and set us back 😄. The old people are under some sort of spell from the ANC 🤣, it's most likely the monthly grant money - we had to slow them down, before they ruined our momentum. Although the ANC accepted the results, they were still able to hog most government positions. Nigeria had some great candidates - how that old man won over them, is something I still ask myself.
Choosing freely not to do something is not democracy. Talking about chewing gum ban in Singapore, a law that is implemented there is a practice that is not democracy
A poverty stricken paradise islanders with a so called prejudiced Sinhala Buddhist mentality embraced a collective triumph by toppling the old guard elitist dominance after 76 years of chaos with the help of bitterly alienated Tamil minority support. A lower class rural farmer's son Anura Kumara Dissanayake a mathematics graduate consolidated a subaltern victory hopefully for the betterment of millions of underdogs. Ceylon 🇱🇰 is liberated...literally. 🙏🙏🙏
I understand where you're coming from, but our tamil bretheren are still suffering in our homeland. AKD hasn't necessarily said anything regarding missing persons from the war
0:08 We had both presidential and local elections in the Dominican Republic this year, you guys forgot to show DR in the map. Good video, overall.
They didn't show Belgium either, even though we had 2 elections
@@Zjef12both of which resulted in hung legislatures. Therefore they are not significant
Also Romania in the same state
It is problematic to conflate the idea of elites as both intellectuals and the extremely wealthy and powerful but perhaps it is deliberate...
Only real comment on this video.
anti-intellectualism is rampant for a reason

Very disappointing for LSE! They did not even mention the general elections in India not with one word!
They follow their country's foreign policy even in journalism
I'm so glad our country continues to be a functional democracy.
What about the countries that dont have democracy? Like middle east, why liberals Don't talk about it

Narendra Modi unfortunately managed only 240 . His alliance won 293. Hence forming his third term😊

Everyone saw Kamalà loosing, only people in an echo chamber wouldn't see it coming.
I missed the Syrian election. Guess that didn’t help Assad much.
No democracy lost, most of the elected leader tend to have authoritarian tendency
Imagine making a video about the biggest electoral year in history and not mentioning the biggest election in the history of humanity 😏
100% agreed. Hope AKD delivers.
Democracy doesn't bring development
India?
How is that the warocracy of Netenyahu isnt discussed
Israel didn’t have an election this year
A bit too focused on three world countries and they totally forgot about what happened in Romania.
Use the right map of India
Is the chamber ensemble in the same room or next door? Perhaps do the next video when they have a break...?
