It's hard to believe Jackie Cooper was this guy. I remember him best as a little rascal in the 1930s, and from The Champ, where he played a defenseless kid who cried all the time. Now here he is as an angry businessman. The versatility of actors never ceases to amaze me.
1:29 _"Clark Kent may seem like just a mild-mannered reporter, but listen, not only does he know how to treat his editor-in-chief with the proper respect, not only does he have a snappy, punchy prose style, but he is, in my forty years in this business, the fastest typist I've ever seen."_ This is much akin to Sir Alec Guinness' "Use the Force, Luke" as this long memorable line is what Jackie Cooper will always be remembered for saying.
Chistopher Reeve was truly gorgeous and an amazingly wonderful compassionate and kind man. IT WAS very sad what happened to him ... he was a complete star and then had the horse accident and then was in wheelchair and died young. What a story. He was an amazing man !!! He is missed.
clark IS the everyday guy, he makes mistakes and doesn't always impress every girl that crosses his path, he's not rich, some don't see him as a big kind of guy simply by looking at him, but he is nice, polite, friendly even if he trips or falls and is bumbling. he's not rude or a playboy.
***** I'd argue that both Clark Kent and Superman are facades. The real "Kal-El" only comes out when he's around people who know his secret. When he's at home with Jonathan and Martha...that's the real guy. When he speaks to Jor-El's consciousness at the Fortress of Solitude...that's the real guy. When Lois finds out his secret in the Superman II...that's the real guy.
This what a lot of people seem to miss about the Clark Kent identity. Clark is the guy you don't look twice at. He doesn't stick out at all, he's just the dorky guy from a nowhere town in Kanas. At no point should anyone think more than that of him. Meanwhile, everyone is so enamored with what Superman can do and has done, they don't even think to consider he might be someone else.
Well that's the point, Public Clark is supposed to be portrayed as a weak, clumsy, boring, nobody that people barely take the time to notice including his own friends and when Superman comes out, he is practically invisible, no one even notices that he left and only admonish him for missing out on Supes latest adventure. If even the real world audience didn't notice him, Chris did a fantastic job.
Richard Boffin I was watching this in the quiet living room with my roommates around me, and at that part they all suddenly looked up at me wondering why I was cracking up
"Remember my dynamite expose on the sex and drug orgies in the senior citizens home?" Holy shit, I can't believe they allowed that line in a family movie!
I wonder how many people really listen to the great dialogue in this scene... LOIS: It's got everything! It's got sex, it's got violence, it's got the whole ethnic angle. PERRY: So does a lady wrestler with a foreign accent.

I think they were desperately trying to avoid a repeat of Superman Returns which some felt was too plodding and boring. Superman Returns had the right pacing but I feel the script was just bad (and IMO a Superman who didn't fill the suit quite as convincingly as Christopher Reeve did).
RIP Jackie Cooper. Not to go all "Perry White" on you but you seem to share Lois Lane's dubious talents in the typing department. It is "Margot", not "Margaret" and "Reeve", not "Reeves". And what, no mention of Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen?
and that actors cannot convey body language for crap nowadays hence all the tight lens, quick cut and dutch angle garbage. Kinda why I prefer Animation to most live action movies due to them actually seeming to give a darn about their physical performance. Majority of movies I see with people in a room in full body shot..might as well get cardboard cutouts or all the feeling they seem to have in their roles.
Loved the old superman movies. No one could make Clark Kent and Superman seem so different like Christopher Reeve!
henry cavil is better in my opinion
@Cannibal Teddy It's Christopher Reeve not Reeves. Don't confuse him with George Reeves.
Christopher Reeve the greatest actor to play superman ever he truly makes Superman and Clark Kent seem like completely different people

Jackie Cooper has always had the " Tommy Lee Jones" thing about him wouldn't you agree ?
What an incredible, underrated piece of cinematography, acting, writing.

RIP, Christopher Reeve and Jackie Cooper, two great actors. We miss you.
Margot Kidder as well
RIP
Reeve did a magnificent job as Superman but what is rarely talked about is his great performance as Clark Kent. He nails it all.

Christopher Reeve left us before his time. 😭🙏🏻 R.I.P the greatest human being ever.
I agree, he seemed like such a great person. Rest in Peace.
The scene with Lois opening the bottle was a homage to the first episode of Superman TV series!
How can anyone not love this scene? Nothing like this in MoS.

RIP Jackie Cooper.
Margot Kidder is BRILLIANT in this role! She doesn't get her due.
"Any more at home like you?"
"Uhh...not really, no."
Rest In peace to my favorite version of Lois Lane, Margot Kidder!
Don't call me sugar

Ha ha, I like how Jimmy hands off the coffee-fetching job to that other dude & orders a tea for himself.
Damn it, Henry Cavill, you fall flat to this guy. You just fall flat.
No he doesn’t fall flat dumbass
@@Steverodriguez825 Nope. Nerdy Clark Kent is better
@Cannibal Teddy NopeZ fuck you. This movie is awesome and most people love it
@Jalbatross Cavil does NOT suck and neither does Amy adams and the movie doesn’t either. Get out of here hater
don't call me sugar!
Christopher Reeve is amazing :)
I wonder how many people really listen to the great dialogue in this scene...

PERRY: So does a lady wrestler with a foreign accent.
Jakie Cooper looks the same as he did on Our Gang(Lil Rascals)
Actually she's silver haired. Hahaha

son bien silenciosos y se portan bien
agreed but not only for Superman, but also for his job as Clark and Margot is the best Lois of all.
Perry gets mad at Jimmy for calling him chief but he doesn't mind when Lois does it.
Marc Mcclure as Jimmy Olsen in superman the movie 1978
Miss Christopher Reeve so bad.
Rappist haha. I never gave any thought to that until now :o
still epic... :)
...and don't call me sugar! :)
actually she is silver haired
They'll give Cavill enough space for scenes like this in Man of Steel 2, I'm sure of it!

@mschneider18xx Fair enough ;) Thanks for correcting the names, though. The Chief would have appreciated it.
RIP Jackie Cooper.
