I presume its a good idea to have a nearby stationary object for a visual reference but i have seen some people occasionally shine a light on the object during this process. My question is if you need to shine a light on that nearby object how often during the shot would it be required?
I have tried this trick on a gopro with a 30 second shutter shot . If your source of light is bright , then shinning it on the object for about 3-6 second should do the trick ... if you are using an alternate phone and its torch lights which is mostly dimmer than flashlights , you ll need to hold it on for about 10-15 secs. The key is to give it a few trials to find the sweet spot , for the shot you want to get. Oh ! it also depends on the sensor size of the phone/camera you are using .
I know quite a few iPhone users who would be a lot less hesitant to switch if it weren't for being stuck in the Apple ecosystem with iMessage etc. Great play by Apple there and why I'm not going back.
Apple is great for amateurs and professionals as it's easy to use interface , accessible features and products especially made for iphone and pro users can do many things but the astrophotography is a bit off in iphones but there are apps made for them on iphone. Whereas samsung get's an edge . But you can buy a cheap 250 dollar phone and a good camera under 800 dollars phones would not be close to that.
That's amazing! How do you compensate for the earth's rotation in order to get the pinpoint star pics? Does your tripod have an equatorial mount? Or does the phone do it?
For most wide angle lenses, their FOV is so large that star trails aren't visible unless exposures are over 1 minute or so. The phone also seems to force frame images taken and may crop in to compensate for any star trails
On my S24 Ultra I can never get stars in focus, ever. I've tried from 0.7 through 0.9 for the focus setting and never comes out right, in night mode everything is fine.
I do astrophotograpy. I don't understand how you get clear sky images without star trails when doing timed exposures more than 4 minutes. Using the 500 Rule, what would be the focal length of the S23 Ultra camera? Thanks. Enjoyed the tutorial.

The expert raw app automatically adjusts for the earth's movement! This is an amazing feature that wasn't available with the pro app.

It is probably using stacking of many shorter exposures.

Reduce the light balance and exposure to the lowest, increase shadows. And couple of more tweaks while editing anf you are good to go
