Jumped in Lister Park lake in mid winter and swam up to stage to greet David Gedge on thr strengh of this album. Glory days. Went home or rather taken home by the police to a very disgruntled dad waiting to a bollocking and that's mild way of putting it. 👍🤣🤣😢🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for this post, bringing back so many memories after so many years. Special thanks has to go out to the late, great British DJ John Peel for introducing me to these and so many other great bands. Hope you're up there still spinning those discs
Saw them twice in Edinburgh. Both were brilliant. The second time was the Ukraine tunes album. It makes sense now... Still have the vinyl copies. The Dual turntable I bought in Chambers St. in 87 with cash from my first real job is still knocking out the tunes. It's just my body that can't mosh like we did in the good old days!
I loved the Fall’s female vocalist incorporation with Brix in all their music, and that was something that jumped out at me w this song (then eventually the whole album). gets me GOING
George Best yep, seen live 1987/88 ,and what can i say,the sound was one of the best, which i experienced. This album was really awesome..... when they switched to a Major label ,the spell was gone. ...for me anyway
You know the best thing about this album? Not the reissue.. the original.. this is actually a wedding present I bought for my sister. In advance of their wedding. Shakespeares Sister.
ok the girl that wore my favourite dress you know who you are said Does it say that? DONT GIVE ME THAT COS U WAS SEEN! Honest love there called the WEDDIN PRESSENT........x x
Oh why do you catch my eye then turn away? I thought we said all the things we had to say Shaun said he saw you holding hands with your new friend How does it feel to know you've just won again? Don't give me that Because you were seen Everyone thinks he looks daft but you can have your dream (ohh) Can I keep that book of yours and maybe this one too? Oh sure, I'll bring them round tomorrow if that will do Was it really full? They must have queued there since half past three Oh I didn't go, was it a good film? Well that's just me Don't give me that Because you were seen Everyone thinks he looks daft but you can have your dream Oh you can have a dream Guess who I saw by your old house just the other day That kid we used to think was mad, but now he looks okay I think someone's here, look out the window, I can't make out who Oh I'd love to stay but I've really got so many things to do Don't give me that Because you were seen Everyone thinks he looks daft but you can have your dream Don't give me that Because you were seen Everyone thinks he looks daft but you can have your dream (ohh)
God Save Ukraine and Pete Solowka - "Dont give me that" .......ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring-if you know, God save the Wedding Present.
No idea what you were doing as a yoof in the 80s but I had loads of great music to listen to. Then again I've always swerved the radio and the charts and pretty much ALL the prevailing shite taste of the masses. So, I had plenty of fun in the 80s and an endless supply of music. Here in Lancashire we were drowning in great bands. Can't speak for anywhere else. I'm sorry they had to suffer Rick Astley and the sisters of mercy. Never mind
Greatest Alternative Rock Album of All Time imo 👌
I sign below
still gives me goosebumps 35 years later ..............................
in me too
Love this band, thank you John Peel (yet again). Gedge’s lyrics are astounding.
The lyrics are the worst part. Aside the first verse and chorus...the rest are banal as fuck. To me the real divider between a good and great band.
easily one of my most favourite bands ...
One of the best songs of the 80's. Actually, the whole bloody LP was up there!
Ant Stead Apart from the Stone Roses, can't think we could get better!

David Gedge - yeh! 'oh why do you...?!' Great opening to my favourite track from one of my favourite bands of the 80s

All hail the true genius of David Gedge! The BEST side one, track one of 1987.
Originally bought it from an old review and for the picture of Best. Got a free, excellent album in the deal!

I think the eighties sucked lemons ... largely. This album was one of the few that showed there were some great records made too. Fantastic album.

A Leeds band putting a ManU player on their album cover is unforgivable.
George best is an icon though what Leeds player would they have used lol
Obviously they are not all from Leeds to
@@leejohnston2003 A non-alcoholic
@@saxglend9439 The lead singer is a United fan probably why he put George on the cover
Thought they were from Middleton?
