He played up to the hard rocking, hard living stereotype, and he was that too, but yeah, he was so much more too. I always say to people who underestimate him to check out Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me.
Battle of the Somme, July 1, 1916. Mostly a British Offensive in the North of France, Thousands took part in what was called Pals Battalions. Lads from the same town and cities joined up with the promise they would fight together. In the first day alone the British suffered over 57,000 casualties. 19,000 Were killed before noon in the largest loss of life by the British Army in a single day for 3 miles of ground. When the Battle ended, their were over 1 million casualties suffered from all sides. The Brits and French took 6 miles of ground in the end.
This always brings up memories of my great-grandfather, who died in the Somme area in 1918, a mere two months after he got to the front line. I'm lucky I have a photo of him, and his grave is marked and well maintained, making visits possible. WAY too many families lost loved ones with no such closure.
Lemmy was a brilliant lyricist, and a serious amateur historian. He was a legendary rocker, icon, partier, but his appearance and legend was just a sliver of the person he was. This is the best, but many of his songs had amazing lyrics (Orgasmatron, When the Eagle Screams, Deaf Forever, ... goes on and on ). His lyrics tend to be very direct and unadorned.
Lemmy is secretly one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years... and most have no idea.. and I think its becuse of Ace of Spades... a great song...one of Lemmys masterpieces (he probably wrote it in 10 minutes], but it cursed the band to a degree becuse most assume they're just the "Ace of Spades" band. Lemmy also wrote one of Ozzy's biggest hits, "Mama I'm Comin Home", as well as a few other songs on Ozzy's "No More Tears" album. A few other great deep Motorhead cuts... "God Was Never On Your Side", "I Am The Sword", "Keys to the Kingdom", "March or Die", "Orgasmatron", and "Back At the Funny Farm"
Lemmy wrote a masterpiece with this. RIP Lemmy legend! I had the pleasure to meet you once and talk to you for a while and I will never forget the drinks we had and the conversation, where you actually listened to what a fan had to say. A true hero! He wrote this piece after watching a documentary about the battle of the Somme. This is one of these songs that you will never forget, once you've heard it.
@@SaeedReacts. He was a bad ass rock star, but at the same time such a kind person with a huge heart. I met him at his fav. bar, the Rainbow in LA and we sat down and talked for like 2 hours. I was totally drunk, when I left and I didn't pay a cent. I will never forget these 2 hours talking to an absolute legend man to man.
@@ingobordewick6480 every person that I have ever heard of that actually met him talks about genuinely kind and what an amazing human being he was. He never got a big ego like so many “rockstars” do.
I speak as a veteran. No matter what era or country you fought in and for, it has always been about those you stood shoulder to shoulder with. So no matter if you are Danish, Japanese, American. The guys you see across the barrel of your rifle are also your brothers in arms.
Never heard of them. Terrible to think young men who would not normally have done, killed each other. Absolutely powerful! O man, brought me to tears. And what also touched me: when you mentioned "unmarked graves"😢 Greetings from South Africa
The youngest British soldier in WW1 was 12, Sidney Lewis, he fought at Delville Wood, the Battle of the Somme, there were many like him, now we have grown men landing on the beaches of South East England pretending to be children...
Thankyou for your time and your thoughts. The overall impression this song leaves me with, is an old photograph of two boys fading away. As visceral as it was, I saw no fighting, but I saw a lot of empty trenches.
I'm a Motorhead fan (albeit a late one) so i had never heard this song. As a lover of modern war history, i really appreciate this song, plus the fact it is very un-Motorhead-like. Good to hear a slower song from them, as their discography is mostly speed metal (which i love). Thanks Saeed...this is why i watch these reactions...i'm hoping to hear something new and i enjoy seeing others enjoy something i know.
This song hits so hard.. and somehow Sabaton makes it even sadder. And they also have the story behind the song in their video. Thanx for doing this one. BTW Sabaton also did Christmas Truce.. the best Christmas song you never heard.
Its funny, Im like you with my knowledge of motorhead, Ace of spades being is the extent of it. Not sure why i dont know more but after hearing this i need to check out more
Nice review. If you want to hear another very touching song from World War 1 then I strongly encourage you to listen to "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by Eric Bogle.
The youngest soldier to die during the Somme was only 13 years old! Think of THAT for a moment or two. Those who STARTED the war expected it to fought by children,.
BS they lied about there ages to join up that what the line in this we added 2 years our ages it about 16 year old lieing about their ages to VOLANTER to go war they were not forced the wanted to go but lied about there ages as you had to 18 to join the forces then
Lemmy was a lot deeper than a lot of people gave him credit for. R.I.P. Lemmy
He played up to the hard rocking, hard living stereotype, and he was that too, but yeah, he was so much more too. I always say to people who underestimate him to check out Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me.
@@bazkeen I met Lemmy, Phil and Eddie in a pub in Cambridge England before the gig the same evening.

this is a song that should be played at every countries memorial for their armed service men around the world

You're not human if you don't cry after listening to this song
I can tell so clearly what Sabaton heard in this original that led to the decision to do their amazing cover. Love the original vocal ❤
100% . Truly an incredibly powerful song.
Stunning reaction bro!
I love your reaction a lot! Great comments, thanks :-)

Very powerful song and image. Truly heartbreaking. Thanks for watching.
I cannot imagine, that the best song of Motörhead is a ballad. This song will be in my list for "A kind of anti-war" songs!
Great song! Definitely up there in the war songs i have done so far.

Thanks for checking it out with me. Great song! Looking forward to more!
Another Perfect Day was one of the first Motörhead tracks I listened to as a kid. But, this song is a little different. Well done.
For some reason that title looks familiar. Will add it to my list. Thanks for sharing.
Love Motorhead! My favorite of theirs is "Stone Dead Forever". Highly recommended!
Thanks for sharing a recommendation! Much appreciated!

BTW Sabaton also did Christmas Truce.. the best Christmas song you never heard.
Powerful song. The reaction to Sabaton's version is coming later today.
@SaeedReacts. can't wait to see that one!
From ieper, great song
Amazing song! Groetjes!
And that's how its for a soldier.
Another son on the same subject (and in an altogether different style) which you should listen to is Christmas 1914 by Mike Harding.
Or, Accrington Pals.
I'm glad you did this before the Sabaton version.
Truly incredible song. Very powerful.
On this vain of Motörhead song, try out “ don’t let daddy kiss me”
Thanks for the recommendation!
