One very important detail of this statue is the most encient known so far inscription on stone शिलालेख in Marathi is found at the feet of Gomateshwar .
" चामुंडराये करवियले ,गंगराज सुत्ताये करवियले " It is in an amazing old style of Marathi . It means this statue was got carved by the king Chamund Ray and सूत अर्थात son of Gangraj "
