I read the story and they listed her weight at 485 lbs. So it's probably actually over 500 lbs. I drove Lyft for a year and used my own person vehicle which was a sub compact car. I absolutely would deny a ride to her as well. This is MY car. My choice.
I just found this while searching on this subject: “If a passenger is too large to fit comfortably in your rideshare vehicle, the best course of action is to politely decline the ride and suggest they book a larger vehicle option like UberXL or Lyft Plus, which are designed to accommodate more passengers or larger individuals; always prioritize the safety and comfort of both yourself and the passenger by not attempting to squeeze them into a space that is too small.”
If she doesn’t fit in the guy car, then he has all right to refuse her a ride, but what did she do? She ran out and found an ambulance chaser of a lawyer to represent her so now she can make some money.
Big?? you misspelled fat. So, I guess the driver would just have to call the fire department with the jaws-of-life to get her out of the car once the ride is over??
I can’t comment on the driver but the law requires all riders wear a seatbelt, she would not wear a standard belt. A seatbelt extension would be required in her case and I don’t know if he had one at the time?
those drivers are supposed to be independent contractors. they have every right to refuse someone getting into THEIR car. this is not lyft's issue, this is the common customer who thinks that lyft pays people hourly. irrespective of if the driver is wrong or right, none of this is lyft's issue, this is a stupid person lol
If she was a rider , of mine I would try to let her get in but shed have to tryvin front seat . There's no way she could get in the back seat of my car . Sorry. Facts
She should have ordered the XL She was not full figured. The driver's car didn't sound very healthy. I think iit depends on the type of car he has. If he has a mini cooper I would agree with him
The only time I think it is ok to deny a ride to a paying customer would be if the driver feels like they are in danger, otherwise you do the job you agreed to, personal bias set aside when you agree to be a driver.
As a Detroit-area Lyft driver myself, this video hits home. I am 6'2, 325 lbs., so I have some sympathy for this lady, Simply saying she should be walking everywhere to burn off calories is a little heartless, and in many cases impractical if she has to get to someplace not within walking distance and by a certain time. But that doesn't mean she automatically has a right to a ride in my medium-sized Chevrolet Cruze. Lyft's terms of service only stipulates one category of passengers that drivers are required to take--disabled passengers with service animals. My concern with accepting this ride would have more to do with volume, not weight. I do a lot of airport runs, since they tend to be more lucrative and less of a hassle (passengers vomiting and/or acting obnoxiously,as you mentioned), and occasionally I have had to fit four people and their luggage into my relatively compact vehicle. I'm fairly sure their combined weight would rival or perhaps exceed this woman's weight, but to try to fit someone into my vehicle who is extremely obese can be challenging although I have taken rides with people who were quite heavy. Not to mention the excessive wear and tear on my vehicle since one extremely heavy person's weight is going to be unevenly distributed, unlike multiple average-sized passengers. Ultimately, I'd have to judge on a case-by-case basis. If airlines can require the obese to purchase two tickets, overly large passengers should similarly be required to order a Lyft XL rather than trying to squeeze into my car, as you suggested.
Well, so let me ask you this. If you drove the same car as this person, would you be able to drive this woman? That'd be almost eight hundred and fifty pounds at two distinct points in the car, and that's assuming that there's nothing else in the car, no spare tire, no jack, Etc. Would you be willing to risk your livelihood, your car, to take this woman to a watch party? Or would you politely decline?
I’m not sure she’s had a problem with drivers before. I think as a bigger person, we all know that look/looks when we see them! We get them no matter where we go or what we’re doing. She’s used to getting those looks. So I think she’s just used to getting them and recognizes them. I don’t know if she’s had issues with drivers before, but I doubt she’s ever had one deny her before even if they had that look. What she faced was flat out discrimination! She has every right to be upset and to speak her mind about it. She has every right to speak her mind about it.
If you’re going to pick up people like a cab, then you should not be a discriminatory type person. This was all because she was an overweight person. Not because she was being out of hand, drunk, or disrespectful. Discrimination is wrong!
there is a liability issue. Passengers are required to wear a seatbelt while riding Lyft. This driver's vehicle would not accommodate her size or allow her to ride safely. Ultimately, it's his car. It doesn't belong to Lyft and Lyft isn't going to reimburse him for damage done to his car. And, yes, a 500 lb person, whose weight isn't evenly distributed, could potentially damage a car.
@ bs! First off you assume that’s her weight! Cars are made to carry the weight. She wasn’t going to be riding from Vermont to California. Your arguments are not valid. I’ve been a big lady my whole life. Everyone assumes all heavy people don’t take care of themselves or over eat. But that’s not always true. There are all kinds of health issues which require meds that cause severe weight gain and mobility issues. Unless you live with them you wouldn’t understand. There’s no way she weighs 500 lbs. Your discrimination is front and center.
If she was a rider , of mine I would try to let her get in but shed have to tryvin front seat . There's no way she could get in the back seat of my car . Sorry. Facts

@ then your reasoning says he has a right to discriminate? Just because Lyft says those words does not mean it lets people off the hook. If you don’t want to drive heavy people, black people, Asian people, Muslims, or old people, then don’t be a cab driver! That’s all Lyft, uber, or any other kind of driver are! Cabs! They still have to adhere to the laws, no matter what the company says to cover their rearend! They could care less if the driver gets sued for discrimination, as long as they don’t.
Lyft contract plainly states the driver/owner of the vehicle has the right to refuse anyone service for any reason.
“Professional Victim” YES!
Waaaaaaahhh .
He has the RIGHT
I like how the media are ignoring the elephant trying to get in a car

Their vehicles, their choices. The young lady, is trying to NOT see the Elephant in the room, no pun intended. She needs to walk!

LOL Jaws of Life is Hillarious!!😂
I can’t comment on the driver but the law requires all riders wear a seatbelt, she would not wear a standard belt.
A seatbelt extension would be required in her case and I don’t know if he had one at the time?
Exactly
Agree that Lyft has nothing to do with it. Easy payday, slimy freekin’ attorney.🙄
XL ride for a XXXXL person.
Over 300 lbs should all be XL rides, and maybe have to ride alone.
those drivers are supposed to be independent contractors. they have every right to refuse someone getting into THEIR car. this is not lyft's issue, this is the common customer who thinks that lyft pays people hourly. irrespective of if the driver is wrong or right, none of this is lyft's issue, this is a stupid person lol
Fork-lyft could’ve handled it
She needs to put the fork down...not lyft it
just a cash grab
I would be mortified to bring this to the news. I mean hats off to her for not fearing to be seen. I would have preferred to see less of her btw. Smh
Protected characteristics? wtf. The stupidest thing I've ever heard. It's not the same as race, religion etc.
If she was a rider , of mine
I would try to let her get in but shed have to tryvin front seat . There's no way she could get in the back seat of my car . Sorry. Facts
I drovr for LYFT, in Los Angeles, for two years. Had many messed up rider's.
This is ridiculous. She couldn’t fit in my M3. I don’t think she could get in my Escalade because of the step up but the car could handle it.
She won't live long enough to collect
And what about the seat belt ? Surely doesn't fit ! 🤔
She’s going to pass away a young lady if she doesn’t take care of her health.
Yes the driver's have the right
Seat Belt Wouldn’t Even Fit Over Her, (LEGALLY UNACCEPTABLE)
My heart goes out to her. Going on to publically play the victim will only add salt to a wound. His behavior though....his disgusting behavior!
She should have ordered the XL She was not full figured. The driver's car didn't sound very healthy. I think iit depends on the type of car he has. If he has a mini cooper I would agree with him
I agree with you Polo
As a car mechanic i can say most of the tire on small car would not handle that weight axle would get destroyed too😂
Why has nobody asked why she was already recording when the dude told her she couldn’t fit?? She set that shit up. She knew.
"If it fits, you must acquit"
She's over 500lbs she would definitely mess up his vehicle.
He was simply ensuring her safety, if his remold mega milage tyres had popped......
Another channel made two good points: liability of driving someone who couldn’t wear a seatbelt and do doctors get sued for advising weight loss…
Should have called for a "forklyft" instead.
She needs a doctor, not a lawyer.
The only time I think it is ok to deny a ride to a paying customer would be if the driver feels like they are in danger, otherwise you do the job you agreed to, personal bias set aside when you agree to be a driver.
Polo! 😂 Your little comments are killing me 🤣
Attending a party? She can barely move. Let's be objective here.
I wish her all the best but she has to make some serious changes in her life.
I'm no fan of these corporations, but Lyft had nothing to do with the situation. They're just going after them because that's where the money is.
If she was a successful rapper she would be able to afford her own van.
His car sounds like crap. I wouldn’t get in his car bc I wouldn’t be sure I would make it to my destination.
How does she have time time to rap between snacks .

@leilav2976 As I said, I'd have to determine it on a case-by-case basis based on the factors I already mentioned and which you just reiterated.
She weighs 480 pounds
Did she come with her own seatbelt extender?
Im guessing the car didnt have one that long.
So no seatbelt no lift.
I read she'd about 490#. That really full figured. Seems if you were that big, you'd specify you need a vehicle with extra room.

All fat people agree with her.
Walking is good maybe she should try 🙏🙌🙏
Your reaction is unbiased, call it for what it is quit faking
Cars can handle. She is above 500
just looking to get paid...
I give her 2 more years till she goes under
does she have medical problam?
Wait. Didn't trump just take all those rights away?

Lmfao
When the potential rider is bigger than the car...you stay on the curb. 😮😳😬🫤
Btw - Im a fat girl. Id have driven on too!

just like the driver has every right to refuse to drive her in HIS PERSONAL VEHICLE.
