I've worked at the major gold refinery in Perth and the Perth Mint, where they make gold bars, ingots, and all sorts of coins, jewellery and other exotic items out of precious metals, including the world's biggest gold coin, which was on display outside the New York Stock Exchange and covered by CNBC, not long before Covid from memory. I then got to work at the gold and precious metals refinery in Melbourne and I also know people who have worked at Argyle Diamonds - I just missed out on that trip. All these sites have high security. Every time you enter and exit, you go through security, which is a bit like going to the airport but they also make you remove your shoes, belts etc and go through scanning. These processes, as well as accounting controls etc. are regularly assessed and tested by consultants. Security is made a lot easier for metals in this way. Diamonds are trickier and can be secreted anywhere, so the security measures are tighter. There have been people who have tried things like treading on them, so they get embedded in the soles of their shoes but security is usually fairly wise to these things and you'd likely end up in jail and lose your high paying job if you tried it. By the way, Argyle Diamonds generally have a unique pink colour and they are running out, so their price exceeds that of a regular clear diamond. Some people invest in them because their value tends to go up annually at a decent rate. As far as the mine sites go, they're fairly remote, so to get there you generally have to fly or be incredibly well prepared with off-road vehicles, extra fuel tanks, water, food etc. Once you're there, you'd have to get past security and somehow find your way down into the pits, which are usually being mined 24/7. There is security, fences, locks and gates. Also to get there you need to ride elevators or other machinery and know where you are going in the dark. To breathe, you also might need to turn on ventilation. If you could make it this far, you probably still wouldn't trip over a gold nugget or a raw diamond. All major gold mines only operate financially on a few grams of gold per tonne of material. You need explosives, machinery, physical separation and concentration methods that usually involve chemicals to extract the product from large amounts of material, and even then, the resulting material can be sent elsewhere for further refining or diamond cutting. Most gold mined contains impurities like copper and silver, so a lot of it has to be sent to a third party refiner to get it to 99%+ purity. I know Phez was half-joking but I thought I might be able to better address this theoretical possibility. I also had a brief stint in law enforcement, and I know there were also police in Kalgoorlie, where the Super Pit and much of the mining is going on, who are wholly funded by the mining companies to run a specialised gold stealing unit. Its mainly just another deterrent, but some brazen people get caught occasionally, who are generally insiders who try to exploit their knowledge and access. I know a story of one particular guy, who knew the cops were onto him, so he went down into the mine with explosives strapped to his head and that was his last act in this world. Hope I haven't bored anyone with this detail but thought it might be of interest to someone out there.

I'm a proud sandgroper (the nickname of people born in Western Australia) and have lived up North in one of the iron ore mining towns, in Perth, in Kalgoorlie (the home of the gold Super Pit) and now in Bunbury in the South West. In between I've lived on the East Coast and several places in Canada, but am so much happier back here.
I'm surprised they covered the Batavia but not Black Jack Anderson, our very own pirate. Plus MANY other amazing things about WA. It is very true about succession talk still being discussed, most recently during the pandemic when our numbers were extremely minimal as our border was totally closed, as soon as it opened the virus has run rampant. During the border closure, one politician/businessman tried suing the state and premier for being locked out and lost; needless to say that guy did rather badly in the federal election we had this past weekend!

I had the privilege to see Billy Joel at the old now demolished entertainment center in Perth Western Australia.
Billy walked onto the center of the stage to thunderous applause. He just stood there and didn't say a word.
The audience went quiet as he stretch out his arm and pointed his finger down to the stage floor.
He looked down at his finger and slowly raised it following it with his eyes as far as he could reach above his head.
He then lowered it stared at the audience for a few seconds and said.
This is A "Fkg Big State" to more thunderous applause. Good old Billy we all had a great evening.

King's Park is in the middle of Perth, and is mostly natural bushland. That is what makes it so different to other parks.
It has areas that are developed as you would expect of a park, but the founding fathers locked it away in perpetuity for public use. As a result, even very wealthy people (and we have plenty of them) cannot buy that land. Many visitors drive in the entrance road, get out of their car to see the view over the city and never realise that the park extends far, far further.

Roo much effort on the accent Miles! But Im from WA so all those “Aussie” accents sound thick to me. Regional differences and all that. As you have just learned, we’re pretty isolated from the rest of the country over here.
A quick google search reveals WA has Alaska beat by about a million square kilometres (1.7 for Alaska, 2.6 for WA).
Interesting fact about secession: today, it would be impossible for the state to petition the UK house of commons, as Australia is now fully politically independent from the UK (the monarchy is nothing more than tokenistic in regards fo Australia). It creates an interesting question as to when Australia actually became an independent nation in its own right.
Perth rhymes with Earth. It is not one of the most isolated state capitals, it is the most isolated state capital.
This guy doesn’t even scratch the surface of how crazy the Batavia story is. Firstly Captain Pelsart left to get help from Jakarta in a rowboat. Its also likely Corneliusz had planned the shipwrecking in an attempt to steal the treasure on board. Lastly, Corneliusz’s plan only failed because Pelsaert showed up just in time.
He said City Park Phez, not National Park. So you’re also wrong Miles. Kings park sits on top of Mount Eliza. As kids driving across the Swan River, we used to compete to be the first to spot the cenotaph war memorial on the top of the hill.

  • @ceevio_art

Accent rating? Getting better...10/10 for effort.. but some of your vowels are sounding more South African than Australian!😬
A couple of tips on getting the accent. The Australian accent is "non-rhotic". That is, we don't pronounce the 'r's at the end of words and syllables - same as a Boston accent. So "car park" is "cah pahk". Same with "largest" - the 'ar' should sound like "ah". Say "LAH-jest".
When you say "Australia", you are currently pronouncing all the letters - which is VERY un-Australian. In your intro, you began "Australia" with a short "o" sound, as in "off", "on" and "Austria". Try saying it instead with a short "u" sound, as in "up" and "us". "Us-TRAIL-ya" (In a phonetics dictionary it might be written as /ə/, but let's not get too technical)
So its "Us-trail-ya" - or for a broader accent, leave the "L" out altogether. Say "Us-traya", or just " 'Straya". For "Western" - don't forget to drop the 'r'. Say "West'n".
    Repeat 100 times: "Ustraya's lahjest state is West'n Ustraya."🤭😜

Hi, I live in Perth. Perth is divided into North of the river and South of the river... NoR or SoR.... and the rivalry is as great as the east coast v west coast.
That video was shit! Not your fault though.
When holidaying we either go up north ( dry, hot ) or down south (green, lush, cooler).
It takes tge same amount of time to fly from perth to melbourne as it is perth to bali... which is one reason we are known for holidaying in bali.... also for the price of a return flight to melbourne you can get return flights, accomodation and spending money.
Western Australia is a great place to live.

I’m from Perth, Western Australia. You can tell a sandgroper - our nickname - by the fact that we refer to our state as ‘west Australia’. We also pronounce derby with an ‘e’ and if you ask an Australian who is not a sandgroper what polony is, they won’t know. Anyone not a sandgroper is an eastern stater, which is not a compliment.
I worked for argyle diamonds for 7 years. Argyle is pronounced with a hard ‘g’. The mine shut years ago. In its heyday I used to be able to stand in a large room up to my knees in diamonds - 10% of one months production. There are diamond sites across WA but the locations are generally kept secret.
Perth is actually the mining capital of the world.
West Australia has an amazing range of spectacular stuff. We have cattle stations (you’d call them ranches) that are bigger than many countries in Europe.
Why does that guy sound like Borat?
The main reason we live mostly in the south is because our political leaders have no vision and refuse to stop pandering to miners and build proper cities in the north, even though two of the owners of the states biggest mining companies actually want us to build cities in the north.
The Batavia saga is actually extremely bizarre. Cornelius was punished by having his hands and feet cut off before he was hanged and left on the scaffold built on one of the islands.
We have more species of wild flowers than the rest of Australia put together.
The video missed a heap of really interesting things in WA. We have Ningaloo reef - the western equivalent to the barrier reef, except you can walk to the Ningaloo reef off the beach. We have shark bay world heritage area - a park as big and as interesting as Yellowstone, where you can see the worlds oldest living organisms, and which has dinosaur footprints frozen in time - mud actually (the location of which are secret).

And to be fair, WA should have grown settled cities like Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton and Esperance a long time ago. At least making them as big as Newcastle, Canberra or the Gold Coast.
And yes I pin it down to political unwillingness. WA would have been far more prosperous by now had that been made possible

I mean many national parks globally are as big as some small countries, surely that would have been self explanatory that they weren't saying Kings Park is the biggest PARK, but the biggest PARK IN A CITY.. It's like comparing the worlds tallest mountain IN A CITY to the world's tallest mountain, or the world's tallest building IN A UNIVERSITY to the world's tallest building.. etc .. It should be said, Australia is OLD.... Western Australia is very old... basically The Earth is over 4½ Billion years old, parts of Western Australia are 3 Billion years old. Life exploded at about 2½ Billion years ago.
As for Road Trains, they are also huge, and operate in every state and the Northern Territory, except Victoria and Tasmania. They're generally restricted to non-metropolitan or urban areas. The largest vehicle operating in Victoria or Tasmania, without permitted exemption, is called a B-double, consisting of a tractor (prime mover) and two trailers, an A and B trailer, the A is a solid block full-length and the B is half-length in a gooseneck, with the load canterlevered over the tractor, with the axles under a second hitch under the front of the A trailer.. Victoria had an explicit permit for a B-triple service to operate on an exact route between factories, a triple is two B trailers and a single A...
Road Trains can consist of upto three A trailers and two B trailers, and two dollies to convert.... so for the 18 wheeler comparison, start with a twin steer tri-drive tractor, that's 4+12 wheels already, if each trailer has two axles and singles on dollies, that's 4+4+4+4+4+2+2 = 24, or if each A trailer had four axles, and the B trailers and dollies have three axles, that's 16+16+16+12+12+12+12 = 96.... adding all of that up that could be 112 tyres on the road.

WA has never seriously threatened to secede from the Commonwealth but the topic has come up when Commonwealth Government distribution of GST income has been bandied around. WA gets nowhere near a proportionate amount compared to their contribution.
A sovereign Province was set up in 1970 for a region of WA. The Hutt River Provinvce became a first with its' own government and currency. It returned to the Commonwealth in 2020.
The analogy of Perth to Houston is a long way off the mark. Perth has a Mediterranean climate

    Fun Facts about WA
Is the only State / Territory that was not part of New South Wales.
Originally founded as the Swan River colony, named after the river on which Perth and Fremantle sit.
The Swan River , was given its name by Dutch explorer William De vlamingh in 1697 who explored the river and area and named it after the black swans that are indigenous to the state. The black swan also appears on the state flag and coat of arms etc.
Southwest WA is classed as a global biodiversity hotspot.
Shark Bay in the Midwest is home to one of the oldest and largest colony of stromatolites and home to numerous endangered and unique marine life.
kalgoorlie - Boulder City in the eastern goldfields is one of the world’s largest gold mining regions with over 60 million ounces of gold mined .
    And lots more !

Do not forget when want to hit me up if want look at sponsors, 1st tip is go to WA, NT ( last SA, QLD they will look at it if do the out of way places) you do not want to hit the North of WA, NT, QLD &SA Nth & inland areas where they will want the spotlight) You can decide where want to start using date want to start, AFL played all over and Country AFL or Pro Comps in all but one of those States is Massive, must check out our Remote Community games many do not have grass or wear shoes to play.

More facts. WA is so big I could play in snow on Bluff Knoll in the morning, then catch planes and fly 3,000km to dodge crocodiles in 100F rain forests in the afternoon. It would contain most of Europe, excluding Russia. If WA was a separate country it would be the world's richest per person, over $110,000 for every MAN, WOMAN and CHILD, EVERY YEAR, beating Qatar and Switzerland, and it's also the richest in GDP output as well, earn 55% of Australian export income, despite only having 11% of the Australian population. We don't want to be part of Australia. This year, Perth was voted by Australians as the best place to live, it is consistently voted by European, Asian and American countries as a top 10 city. We get 8 hours AVERAGE SUNSHINE EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. WA is in exactly the same time zone as 30% of the world TOTAL human population and money. Kings Park is the largest CENTRAL CITY park. We could easily have added John Forrest and 10 other huge parks bordering Perth. We have protected forest areas that go for hundreds of miles adjoining Perth! We are taller, stronger, faster, more intelligent and better looking than Australians, but you probably knew that. In fact, I offered Victoria to Putin as a possible nuclear waste dump or sewerage treatment plant. He was quite rude when he said " NYET! It isn't good enough for that purpose!"

Checked. Average income actually is $133,000 pa. State GDP is $360 Billion: Is that enough for a country? Sydney has a higher GDP.
Would Eastern Australia have to defend WA? New Zealand can’t afford to defend itself. Saving NZ would probably fall Australia.
Commodity prices are not always stable. Though, WA does have Lithium and Rare Earths, which with be in high demand over many decades to come. Argentina was in WA’s position c. 1900. Unlike several resource rich countries, today’s Australia has trillions in its Banks and, trillions in Retirement Funds. The financial and high technology centres are in the East. Of course Trade is important, yet, two thirds of Australia’s GDP comes knowledge industries and services. Best to stay together - Central Coast, NSW

@@petersinclair3997 there's a thousand ways to interpret data. Eg, Canberra is allocated a massive GDP, but in reality it contributes almost nothing. Passing the same $10 note around a table isn't really contributing. WA, with 10% of the population brings in around 50% of Australian export income. The cash. The real stuff. The facts. Then, WA individuals contribute over $8,000 per person to the Commonwealth, 10 times the contribution of NSW, the only other net contributor. I have seen the net wealth per person in WA to be almost a million each. In the real world, the true figure is generated by dividing the export income by the cost of running the economy. Forget the bullshit. It's money in, money out, that's it. Without money in, the rest is bullshit. On a per capita basis of real wealth, WA individuals have risen from 3rd behind Switzerland then Qatar 2 years ago, then 2nd behind Qatar, to being the top last year. In 2020, the WA individual ranking, even according to the Australian bullshit method was $135,00 per person, compared to the Australian number of $80,000, which includes the WA contribution. Defend? We get on very well with China and Indonesia, they only hate Australia. Given we contribute over 50% of Australian income, the spending money, we take 50% of Australian defence equipment.
