SMW KIH26 Daytona Beach, FL 07-31-15 [Old Video]

This video is part of a series of videos recorded on our road trip to Orlando, Florida back in late July / early August 2015. I know Special Marine Warnings are anything but rare, but I was lucky to catch this alert. I just happened to be recording the broadcast cycle for KIH26 while we were stopped in Daytona Beach when they tone-alerted for a Special Marine Warning. The best part about this is that my Midland WR100 happened to be tuned in as well. Where I live, we don't get Special Marine Warnings because I don't live near the ocean. Plus, this is a version 2 radio, which is very rare in itself. That was probably the only Special Marine Warning that that radio had ever received and decoded, and I caught it all on tape! Also note the voice of ScanSoft Tom; hearing that took me back (R.I.P.). Here is the raw text product from the National Weather Service office in Melbourne, FL:

**PLEASE READ**

I just kept hunting on eBay. They're extremely rare, as you know. You just have to be patient and keep searching!

What kind of WR100 is that?

It is a "Version 2" Midland WR-100. They are very hard to come by. Notice the difference in LED color on here, similar to a traffic light, whereas a more modern WR-100 will have red, orange and yellow LEDs. "Advisory" is known as "statement" on older versions. There is also a "Version 1," but there is no noticeable difference between 1 and 2, as far as I can tell. These are super difficult to come by, as they are very early renditions of the model we know today (we're talking early 2000s here). I would say keep a close eye on eBay, and if you're lucky, one might show up. However, they are increasingly rare to find.
