It multiple sections of blade that are tapered. This allows them to nest inside of the handle. Just like the old star wars light saber toys.

Don't know if anyone of you seen Batman4014 animations, but I've always wondered since i saw his sfms, is it possible to make a "Collapsing" Bat? Just like in this video, one moment it's just a handle and in the other you have a potential weapon to use.
