I love how accessible and authentic Mikey's videos are!! Its not about hitting every popular or well-known, Instagram-able stop or researching not-to-be-missed places, nor about exotic faraway cuisines etc. Just a regular food finding adventure including basic chains as well as convenience store foods! Among all the food UA-camrs Mikey's finds are so consistently realistic and achievable and that's what makes the videos so relatable and addictive!
As A South African, I am very surprised and excited to see a Bobotie Pie and Peppermint Crisp Tart in South Korea. My mouth was watering , as I was picturing myself sitting there eating with you. Love from Mauritius.
I saw the Windhoek and picture of the Cape and immediately was like, hold up, this South African? Lekker.
So cool
When I think of South Africa, I'm not thinking of pies. Do you know what I think of?
@@Irv350 Billtong?
@@damienfourie7456
I think of its brutal history of colonialism and apartheid.
The pies looked so amazing
⭐Fun fact: Last month, my mom said "I think he looks like Mr. Chen the youtuber". My mom and I have been following his channel for a very long time. We even did some foodie tour after watching mikey's videos. I look from behind thinking who he is for real quick, I answered "No way ma, he's probably in States right now.🤷" Turns out we were having a same breakfast meal🤦♂️ in the same lounge🤦♀️ at the same time.🤦 Today, me seeing mikey stopping by my favorite go-to bakery and chocolate shop in MY freakin NEIGHBORHOOD! 🤣🤣🤣 Hope you have a great time in Seoul!!
That perfect timing 5:08 when you first taste the broth then the lights just on. Beautiful moment haha
Lmao
You're right I didn't even notice ;)
That’s what I love about Korea, every time I visit I just walk around and walk into random places and have some of the best food I ever had. The prices are cheap too with no tip. In America, I have to look up restaurants on yelp and pay a 20-30% tip plus take a car everywhere instead of just walking.
It’s so funny how Korea is obsessed with the personality test, it’s what all my Korean friends talk about, they have cafes popping up with names of personality types, even the malatang place has personality types of the wall lol, I’ve heard some companies even started hiring people based on their MBTI personalities lmao. When there’s a trend in Korea, it spreads like wildfire
It’s so stupid that test doesn’t mean anything
@@tiki_riot well at least its better than the previous trend which was blood types, it would be one of the first things people would ask lol
@@tiki_riot they're actually surprisingly accurate if you answer honestly
@@ronaldoalberto3510 thats because the result is based on the answers??? What ahahahaha. Its a literal questionnaire about your personality, of course its somewhat accurate.
@@invertedcrayon please read the comment of the person I was replying to.
Wow, honestly those meat pies, potatoes, and that GRAVY! looks so good on a freezing cold night in Indiana...thanks Mike!
The way u describe food, it’s like a poem. U are a natural food poet. I’m going to South Korea soon and I hope I can follow your food step to those restaurant! 😋😋
the shot of the lamb pie oh my god that was the MONEY SHOT
Mike you have to try the Oreno Ramen while you are still in the Hongdae area. They sell the most flavourful ramen using chicken-based broth. There are many ramen joints in the area but this place in my opinion is one of the few real deals. A little closer to where you look to be staying, there is a cafe called Michaya that sells delicious non-baked white cheesecake. They have been in the same location forever (at least 12-13 years since my first visit!) always selling the same tiny but tasty cake. The only caveat is their hours are dynamic and always changing. Their blog currently indicates Tuesday-to-Saturday operation but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't up-to-date information.
I’ve learned so much about food watching you over the years. Even though I’m not eating it I feel I’m sharing the experience!
Nyquil soup
I only tried tripe and tendon in pho because of Mike prior to me watching his videos I never would have eaten that.
i know what you feel 👍
I feel the same
Thet blue ramen is perfect marketing, unique thing to their place that is actually good too
Did he say why it was blue?
@@j_d1058 bro what
I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now and I must say they always hit the spot. I watch every single one from start to finish. Love what you do. Thanks Mike!
That was so very sweet for them to ask Mike if he wanted both at the same time or one then the other.
As someone who HATES any type of seafood i was suprised when you were talking about that ramen simply because somehow you even made me want to try a bit hahaha
I miss Korea sooooo much. Although I lived in Munson in 1986, I can see it has only improved. My son lived in Osan in 2020. The people and culture are incredible!
That pie looked amazing!
Man that last part with those meat pies! They looked delicious! I'm adding that spot to my list
Those meat pies, lamb chop and mashed potatoes looked amazing!!
Oh my goodness, my mouth was watering over that lamb pie!!!
I love everything you do Mikey. Thanks for inspiring me and heap of other Asian Australians. You don't know how many of us watch you over here!
I can see Mike seriously tried to finish one bite of ramen without having to bite them into pieces.
Those pies look so good I would love to have one bite of it and that lamb chop looks fantastic!
“Eat it while it’s hot” is probably code for “don’t just film, hurry up, there are more customers”.
Man that blue ramen and those meat pies look phenomenal
I live in the UK and we love a great pie. I remember your UK vids you just got a bad pie any country can do good and bad food. That shop seems to be rocking the pies they looked awesome :D
Thanks to Mike, I always want to support my local restaurants.
Sakura month is coming💃💖🕺🕺💖💃💃💖🕺💃💖🕺
The savory pies look so delicious! Thank you for sharing this. 😀🙌
Love love love you videos Mike, I can watch them for hours
As a South African, this video was so satisfying
That pie looks amazing oh my god
Mike you are the champion at making food look its best nice job bro epic camera skills
Every video I keep getting amazed of how much you can eat.
Hey bobotjie pie sounds amazing. So nice to see something South African in Korea.
Hi Mikey! Congrats on your recent engagement/marriage (not sure what stage you're in your relationship) but I'm happy for you both! The blue ramen noodles look delicious! I hope to try it one day. Thanks again for taking us on
another food adventure 😋
He is married, not sure when it happened. Lol
I so love Korean food but those meat pies blew my mind. Great find, Mike.
*Alright!! 💖 💕 Whenever you upload something it automatically uplifts my mood! You deserve all the love.*
Great video and awesome description of the ramen. The egg of☀️ 👍🏾👍🏾
and what made that pie crust super good? LARD! lots and lots of lard. lol! And was anybody else awed by the fact there's a South African restaurant in South Korea? ❤❤❤❤it
Its actually part of a mini-chain called braai Republic and they're amazing!!
LOL! I had a friend in the Society for Creative Anachronism probably close to 20 years ago. She was a costume designer for theater and film. Anyway, she said she went to London England for a conference and was craving some fresh fluffy biscuits. (We were from South Carolina, USA). Anyway, she said she usually uses Crisco (a type of solidified vegetable oil), but couldn’t find any in London. She said the only thing that was close to what she wanted was LARD. (Usually solidified beef fat). She laughed and said they were the best biscuits she’d had in a very ling time!
@@tiffaniecross2209 I'm from Memphis. but I used to live in Camden SC as a kid. and lard has its charms.
Did you notice the Windhoek beer in the background!
3:38 is an awesome sign... love it.
All I can say is OMG!!!! All the food looks sooooo good!
I've always wondered if Mikey has an entire suitcase dedicated to snacks when he travels (boss move)! Those snack boxes would take up almost my entire suitcase. But also, snacks are important, I could just bring one change of clothes 😂 Priorities!
You make me so jealous Mike! I live in Kansas and have no good Ramen or even Asian restaurants near me. I eat vicariously through you
I grew up in the midwest as well. come to nyc to eat :)
I was born in Kansas and I did find a few places in overland Park, even a nice 888 market :) if you want good Thai food, look for hot basil. Just make sure you ask who is cooking because each one has a different heat for each level.
Once again, your eating capacity amazes me!
Mikey has the best job in the world
Wow that Lamb looks amazing, i think that lamb pie was the best thing today 🤤
Everything looks delicious!!!!🍲🥣🥡🍜🍱
Loving all the South-African content
Another great video! Never seen blue ramen before looks great! 💙
Those meat pies really stole the show!
That blue ramen was fascinating! I’d love to try that meat pie! Any chance of seeing Krista while you are there?
15:07 oooooo the variety! 👀🤯
Im glad the places you wanted to go to were closed because it was nice to see something different than the usual hot pot or BBQ. Those pies looked delish.
the name of the bonbon shop is a reference to tempering chocolate. nice video!
I so wish the mid west USA small towns had more neighbor hoods like the ones in this video
Mikey, it was fun seeing you eat all the good food in Seoul😋I see you stayed on the west side in Yeonnam. Next time, I hope to run into you closer to where I am in Gangnam or Itaewon. There's a really good South African Bbq place in Itaewon called Braai Republic you definitely got to try next time. I think you'd like it;)
That meat pie and the lamb pie looks delicious and I also want to try the pork belly yummy. Great food video
Deym, im getting hungry in the middle of the night because of this bro ! 😭
Omgosh those pies and lamb chop looks amazing!!! It's a must try when I visit Korea😍
Those are South-African dishes. Just visit South-Africa
I'm here eating microwave pot pie 🥧 while Mikey eats Amazing beef and lamb pot pie 🥧 😋 definitely feeling jealous and envy.😋
Mikey Chen is my spirit animal!
mikey i was wondering if you can share more about more about korea and their restaurants. Like for example i noticed just in this vid alone how many places your trying to go too that are actually not opened. I'm sure you touched on this in another video but can you elaborate a bit more. Like when do these restaurants usually open and close and when are the restaurant s actual break times. Like are they something like Noon? Big Fan by the Way. Love your Work and these Channels.
Love your videos, so satisfying!!
5:53 they egg 🥚 is absolutely perfect in that ramen 🍜
That looks so good everywhere you eat is always so great. The food always look so good. I live vicariously though you I just image when you describe the flavors and tastes I feel like I'm eating it with you. I would love to be there eating it with you. It looks so fantastically great!!!
That last place was AMAZING!!
That print on the wall next to Mike in the pie shop is from my local beach, called Muizenberg in Cape Town, South Africa. Meat pies are a staple in South Africa!
Two south African favourites of mine! Bobotie and peppermint crisp
That was one of the best food days in a while
Mikey has Christine been to Japan if she hasn't you really should take her to one of the buffets .
5:52 when the food is so good that poems come out of you effortlessly 🤣
Wow..the Macho Steak looks amazing! I’ve never been there even though I’m living in Seoul!😂 How do you know so many great restaurants than a Korean right here?🤣👍
I almost drooled over my phone watching this video😂
Blue ramen! If you can get back to Japan, ask john to take you to the restaurant that makes the blue ramen.
You NEED to try Samgyetang on your channel. Lots of great places in Seoul especially near the JW. Mind numbing goodness. Safe travels.
Man those pies at the end looked so good, very moist and full of filling
Those pies looked amasing and think the pie gods were calling there
I could watch you eat every day ...
Love your video's im excited for more
Love the Korean videos!
Great video Mikey
Saw the blue ramen on my ig feed alot, cant wait to try one day
Hey Mikey if you're ever around Fullerton, CA there's a poke and mochi donut place on Harbor Blvd.
I really want to try that Bobotie Pie beef option. It looks so good!!
Wow! You ate at some amazing places. The Rahman looked soooo good and I don't like lamb but it looked so good in the pies, I am temoted to try again, Lamb. Awesome content. Happy travels back to the USA. 😊🙋♀️
hit up "Ittengo" ramen at Hapjeong station (the one next to Hongdae station). They got a Basil ramen, but I prefer their Tonkotsu ramen. Ask for a bowl of rice (for free) after you've finished the noodles.
Legends of the blue sea
THOSE PIES LOOK IMMENSE
Watching you gives me serotonin
cant wait for the day when i can eat food normally again. got gastric bypass surgery in the beginning of January and havent had a normal meal yet. LITERAL TORCHURE LOL. happy to say ive lost 70 lbs so far though :D
Glad you enjoyed those pies, they did look good. Sorry your UK pie experience was a let down. I promise, we have some really, really good pies but you have to come to Northern England for them!
I was a bit sceptical about the broth initially (sorry, but looked a bit like Colin) but I was pleasantly surprised by your reaction!
Always love your videos and look forward to them but I have to ask...why 2 different channels?
Food gods directing you to those pies! That was what it was all about! They looked amazing.
저도 아직 안먹어봤는데 양갈비 맛있어보여요! ☺️❤️
That pie meal looks it's been prepared by one of the top ten in food wars...god damn!!!
Lying here at 4 am starving after watching all this yummy food. But I don’t have anything that good in my house. So jealous.
The blue ramen looks great! So interesting!!
mikey got number 4/5 spice level? r u ok my dude?
craving a pot pie now...
